I picked it up the base game about 2 months ago when it was on sale. Overall it's alright but what I didn't like is once I got to a certian point there was really no threat. Yes there are some large predators like bears and boss type enemies, but nothing inbetween to keep you on your toes. I loved the game at first and was heartbroken when I saw they just kept doubling down on these awful missions
Thanks for your review. I'm seriously considering buying this. 3:23 - DayZ is a cake walk compared to this game. Literally died within 30 seconds the first time I loaded in the game. Then proceeded to die another 10 time because I guess there's giant birds all over.
So i bought the game now because it's on sale. Any way for a 3 year old game, the devs need to fix a lot stuff. ___________________ Dont just make new DLCs and biomes like other similar game do ( Conan exile, or Vallhaim or what ever open world crafting survival game ) ... FIX BASIC GAME PLAY FIRST. first of all you can't even properly jump over obstacles like rocks etc.... i dont think this should be hard to program ... just take RUST ( the game ) as an example .... Same with climbing rock walls... in some parts on the map you can even go half way through the rock wall , while other parts on the map you are held back by an invisible wall. Fix that _____________________ Bow is a pointless weapon in the beginning. All the wildlife is too fast to even hit them with a bow when they run around and even if you hit them they dont die first hit ( at the beginning of the game ) .. i don't even waste time with that, i just kill Wolves and the aggressive Horse ( i just melee attack with knife their faces ) boom they dead and i get my leather and other stuff I saw a youtube video where they suggest a bow but man is that useless. Bow should cause at least some kind of bleed damage that will kill the animal... over time...the animal should also start moving slower, as it is normal when you are hurt and close to death. i just level as fast as i can to GUNs and then i start to kill everything ______________________ Fix the animals and water interactions.. The aggressive horse was following me into my under water CAVE base , ... i was surprised when the horse came out of the water behind me.. of course I killed it with easy, but still ...absurd... fix that ________________________ While the hunger and thirst are manageable once u kno what to do.. i think they tick down too fast.. it ruins the immersion.. nobody has to eat and drink so much so many times . _____________________ Would be good if you have settings for day time and night time.. day time is way too short ..while night feels so long.. yes i know you can sleep through but that's not the point. ________________________ Maybe for late game get some biome with some kind of planet monsters as enemies... shooting regular earith animals is boring in endgame... Yes I know there are bosses but still...get more unique enemies there. I don't gear up to just shoot bears, deer and wolves. _____________________ Any way get to work FIX those issues

Btw this video is about "what i think about icarus" than "in a nutshell" should rethink the title not hatin but tellin the truth but still love the video
I really want to try this but the DLC pricing is a big detergent for me. I might try the base game for an hour and get a refund if I don't like it. Really good reviews! Loved your openness
Thank you! Base game has been updated quite a lot and has improved. It’s still unfortunate though that in order for you to experience the alien world-you have to have a dlc.
@TheFourWindBadger perfect comment! exactly what I thought, they can release cosmetics and other DLCs of that sort but when you show case a trailer with an alien world before early version was even released and then charge people for it later, that’s a bit out of place
I have Icarus since it was released but I started playing actively after the release of the Open world mode and I totally agree with your view for the game. Im getting disappointed lately with all the cash grab updates like the dogs and what not but at the end of the day no one can force me to buy it so I still can enjoy the game for what it is and I really do.
Facts! Very well said! I still enjoy the game (because just like you said-not forced to buy it) but the whole idea behind it, does boil my blood a little bit lol
So you would rather the game gets abandoned or the paid dlc costing 200 dollars? The developers Got Bills to pay too. The current paid dlcs are mostly cosmetic and adds close to nothing you dont already get for free
It's on sale so I came looking for info on this title before buying it and this was very informative, so thank you. One thing I'm on the fence about is: should I wait with the expansions and just get the base game or get at least the new frontier DLC or just all of it? Is there enough in the base game for a casual player or is it missing some mechanics that the DLC add that make it more interesting? Edit: Added bonus question: how good is the archery in this? Is it viable all game? I love archery in open world/survival games, and this looks pretty good.
Hey thank you! You are not missing out on game mechanics if you don’t buy the frontiers dlc(all it is…is an alien world with sci-fi atmosphere). So if you want an alien like world-then you should probably get it! But if you don’t mind the earth like atmosphere-then you’re more than fine! I’ve been playing it for about a year now and I still don’t have a single dlc and the game is plenty of fun without any of them. As far as archery goes it’s actually really good( definitely feels realistic ) and requires to be very precise. I’m more of a rifle person! But archery is the first thing you unlock and it’s definitely good.
@@Rooslahn No they're not. Deliveries for equipment work only 30 percent of the time which makes the grind worse. And you spend hours AND I MEAN HOURS traveling to a main mission location to find its on a cliff, and the non functional support system doesn't support your ramp. You absolute shill.
I took a hard pass on the game a year ago because the over all costs of the dlcs turned me off i recently bought the game after seeing another TH-camr play it he told me just buy the base game that's all you need. And maybe later the 2 map DLCs. They are shooting themselves in the foot with that marketing I imagine I'm not the only person to have been turned off by the game and that's a shame because it is a pretty cool game overall

I'm not willing to support devs that try to suck every last cent out of a loyal fanbase. I may purchase the game once the price of the base game and major dlcs drops to a reasonable cost...
it's TRIPPING its ASS OFF...16 animals in less than 5 minutes? Did the gates @ the Zoo break or something? Please, pleez, try to get ur SHIT together, Dean!
tried it for the free trial weekend. 5 minutes in the game, no guidance or tips. Immediately get attacked by a boar horse and then a wind storm kicks in and tells me to find shelter. I just closed right away because like man, I don't even know the controls and you're already kicking me in the nads. I'm no stranger to survival/crafting games either, but you gotta let new players at least get their bearings first.
Odd to see This complaining about dlc pricing. Making it Sound like you massively missing out on stuff if you dont buy Them all. Outside the full map releases, Its all small stuff that just add cosmetic variants. Buy What you find decent to support developers and skip the rest. Hardly see how people Can complain about this.. most updates are free. So unless you want higher prices for updates or see the game abandoned due to lack of money, Its still the superior model both ways
My main concern and disapproval has been ever since Icarus was announced! And I’ve talked about this in so many other videos but I’ll sum it up! Am I against DLCs as whole concept? Absolutely not, games need to be funded somehow-especially when the funding is needed. I get it. But when you showcase a game (prior to its release date) and you promise-this alien world with cars and creatures! (By the way that video has been taken down now) I’m assuming because many people were not happy and felt misled…anyways and instead you get the world that’s earth-like. And when you do release that extra piece of a puzzle that was promised in the first place-you now charge for it? Imagine if GTA 5 showcased Trevor in their trailers! But in order to play him-you had to buy a DLC expansion. ARK has crap ton of DLCs but they are transformative and they came after what’s been already promised…
I got in for early access for $30 back in the day, where it had a beta map only on weekends, every fortnight for a few months. It was genuinely exciting to be a part of it. I have fond memories of that time and still love the game. *I think the ONE thing the game really needs is fanbase MODDING*
STOP with the background droning drum beat, put me off totally managed 3 minutes and couldn't take anymore, shame otherwise it was good review...for the portion I seen
I have been thinking about getting this. I love survival games but only like to play solo and I wasn't sure if this game was meant for this. I want a game where I can take my time and build and grind but I also want to have a story that I can progress at my own speed. For instance, Conan exiles, I loved but once I built my house and was happy with it, I didn't know what else to do. Explore the map for what, just to explore? I need a underlining missions and also a survival game. I am hoping this is what Icarus is. I'm excited to play it now after watching your video. Thank you! Subbing
The game is just such an asset flip flopper and nothing special about it. Too earthlike planet, too earthlike animals. Its just awful. Then they add new creatures, which are just bad place holder asset pack creatures. Big whoop. Still boring. Rarely default settings are balanced well enough, they are optimized for longest grind without the player noticing it.
LOL then don't play a paradox game. xD they have a high price to keep up. but, keep in mind that Icarus does update the base game almost every patch. I do enjoy that they have the missions on open world and still earn those creds and exotics. :)
For those bitching about the price remember that this game isn't a AAA game and is free of political bullshit and woke pandering. The price isn't that bad. The little guys need to get paid so that we can have more games without that crap

Dont just make new DLCs and biomes like other similar game do ( Conan exile, or Vallhaim or what ever open world crafting survival game ) ...
Fix that

Bow is a pointless weapon in the beginning.
All the wildlife is too fast to even hit them with a bow when they run around and even if you hit them they dont die first hit ( at the beginning of the game ) .. i don't even waste time with that, i just kill Wolves and the aggressive Horse ( i just melee attack with knife their faces ) boom they dead and i get my leather and other stuff
I saw a youtube video where they suggest a bow but man is that useless.
Bow should cause at least some kind of bleed damage that will kill the animal... over time...the animal should also start moving slower, as it is normal when you are hurt and close to death.
i just level as fast as i can to GUNs and then i start to kill everything
______________________
Fix the animals and water interactions.. The aggressive horse was following me into my
under water CAVE base , ... i was surprised when the horse came out of the water behind me.. of course I killed it with easy, but still ...absurd... fix that

While the hunger and thirst are manageable once u kno what to do.. i think they tick down too fast.. it ruins the immersion.. nobody has to eat and drink so much so many times .
_____________________
Would be good if you have settings for day time and night time.. day time is way too short ..while night feels so long.. yes i know you can sleep through but that's not the point.
________________________
Maybe for late game get some biome with some kind of planet monsters as enemies... shooting regular earith animals is boring in endgame...
Yes I know there are bosses but still...get more unique enemies there.
I don't gear up to just shoot bears, deer and wolves.

Any way get to work FIX those issues
Thank You!!!!! Perfectly said
Thank you for kind words :D
I literally just added this game to my wishlist on steam for $34-$37 USD. 2 days later I got a message on steam that it was on sale for $8 and some change. I could not pass this deal up. Thank you for the review. 🤘😎
Good luck to yah:) great game overall
@Rooslahn thanks, I'm looking forward to it.
Dean Hall knows what he’s doing lol
lol
Btw this video is about "what i think about icarus" than "in a nutshell" should rethink the title not hatin but tellin the truth but still love the video
I respect that! Thank you for being honest
Is it like Rust where you need to build a base and in the next day it may be destroyed by enemies ?
No!!! You are not being raided in this game at all
GAme is on sale for 9 euros ish, im convinced to get it
I really want to try this but the DLC pricing is a big detergent for me. I might try the base game for an hour and get a refund if I don't like it.
Really good reviews! Loved your openness
Thank you! Base game has been updated quite a lot and has improved. It’s still unfortunate though that in order for you to experience the alien world-you have to have a dlc.
@@Rooslahn it is very regrettable :( I get devs need money but i don't think withholding important content is the way
@TheFourWindBadger perfect comment! exactly what I thought, they can release cosmetics and other DLCs of that sort but when you show case a trailer with an alien world before early version was even released and then charge people for it later, that’s a bit out of place
Got the game and all dlc for a whopping 40 dollaridoos. Would not pay full price but for $40 (during the sale) this game is great!
Have you tried the new map?
Summer sale 40% off £89.72 on full bundle still not cheap & they no enemies NPCs with bases
@@Rooslahn Thank you for the elaborate answer! I'd sub just for that, if I wasn't already :D
Yay earned and incredible friend😊
Great presentation brother! Dean Hall has a unique and precise taste in survival games(DayZ, Stationeers, Icarus, etc.) I trust his vision.
Thank u :D hey nobody denies his work👍🏻
Looked cool, checked it out, saw how much € they want for all the dlc, ditched it. That's a shame...
They’re incredibly good and updating the game very consistently but the whole dlc situation they have going on is a bit crazy haha
@@Rooslahn No they're not. Deliveries for equipment work only 30 percent of the time which makes the grind worse. And you spend hours AND I MEAN HOURS traveling to a main mission location to find its on a cliff, and the non functional support system doesn't support your ramp. You absolute shill.
its free to play for 21 hours right now, guess ill try a start
Any word on DayZ and new map update?
It's coming soon!
Tönnies Lasagne production simulator... Killed about 1k horses today.
I think I've been on tiktok too much 🤣 The background music reminds me of those galvenized square steel videos
Ummmmmm😂
drums through out the whole video was very annoying it was fine in the beginning but should have turned the volume down
My bad G, glad it didn’t bother the rest of people here
Karen on youtube be like:
This background music...
As long as the "genetics" are good, it's a goer 😂
so am i getting it right that it’s open world now?
Yes! There’s open world mode now, and it’s up to you what you wanna do and your base doesn’t go away
@@Rooslahnthat’s awsome just downloading it now i no this is allways a touchy subject on steam games but dose it have controller support? or part? great vid btw will subscribe
@sharpz6698 not yet, currently there’s just too much to navigate through. I’m sure they will implement that at some point soon
I'm not willing to support devs that try to suck every last cent out of a loyal fanbase. I may purchase the game once the price of the base game and major dlcs drops to a reasonable cost...
Great video
Thank u boss🫡
On sale today for $17...worth it for casual survival game minded people like me?
Yes! DLCs are up to you friend
how is mostly positive perfect lol, abiotic factor, planet crafter are both over overwhelmingly positive. That is what is "Perfect:
what`s with the fking drums in the background holy s
Little testosterone booster…I don’t know what to tell you
@@Rooslahnits annoying as shit dude atleast make it not so repetitive
Icarus needs to improve in missions; then I’m sold lol
lol
it's TRIPPING its ASS OFF...16 animals in less than 5 minutes? Did the gates @ the Zoo break or something? Please, pleez, try to get ur SHIT together, Dean!
With all the expansions, it's too expensive
tried it for the free trial weekend.
*I think the ONE thing the game really needs is fanbase MODDING*
deep vocals mixed with a deep thumping music in the bg means losing lots of words. even in nice headphones. maybe dont need such loud bg music
Thank you for your feedback
Pirating the game with all dlc, i prefer solo gameplay anyways.. maybe once im much better at the game ill get it to play online
Brother, this video makes Icarus look aweful.
when devs are this greedy just go ahead and pirate it, you will be thanked
Hahah
I was about to buy the game, until I saw the amount of DLCs they made. Just no.
STOP with the background droning drum beat, put me off totally managed 3 minutes and couldn't take anymore, shame otherwise it was good review...for the portion I seen
so, Icarus is better now there is is like many other games. it is no longer stands out in the genre.
Schmeler Bridge
Yes, everything you said sounds very "genetic".
lol
I love being genetically correct! Thanks
is it actually worth playing?
They’ve improved this game a lot. Yes
LOL then don't play a paradox game. xD they have a high price to keep up.
but, keep in mind that Icarus does update the base game almost every patch.
I do enjoy that they have the missions on open world and still earn those creds and exotics. :)
Thanks for the info!
For those bitching about the price remember that this game isn't a AAA game and is free of political bullshit and woke pandering. The price isn't that bad. The little guys need to get paid so that we can have more games without that crap
"no game should force you to spend 180$ on it" bro hasnt played tarkov XD
The idea of spending any amount of money on an extraction shooter💀
@@Rooslahnbro ikr but they for sure make you spend a lot of money to play but its still fun!
@@xxmillerxx8259 lol IKR!! i got the edge of darkness edition back in 2017, was 150 $ then. i have 13319 hours played . that's 0.12 cents / hour in entertainment. Im good with it /shrug
although I'm here now because I'm looking for a new survival or MMO to play. was checking out vids on different ones available on steam. Bored AF. i uninstalled tarkov after the whole eod edition not getting the new dlc's blah blah but meh. still looking
WHat an annoying background noise my dude...
Life is tough wear a helmet kid
What an annoying human being you are but im sure people deal with it
To much Dlcs ..
SHILLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
I joined recently and found it terrible because i was running out of oxgen, until i started to consume oxcite the blue stone - and then the game opened up! Everything you said is so ture and thank you!
The blue stone will save you my friend! 🙂
Looks kinda like the forest
