Charlie Daniels was a devout Christian and one amazing Fiddle player and musician. I grew up on this song, just a kid. Now I'm 55
He was also a psychedelic wildman, the ganja
❤
I love this song! Charlie Daniels said the difference between a violin and a fiddle is a violin has strings and a fiddle has "strangs" !
For the 5000th time
The real difference I was taught is that a violin has strings made out of cat gut or other synthetic material and fiddle strings a made out of steel.
Love Charlie Daniels band...saw them in 1982 ❤
My Brother I am sold on you. You have a OPEN and legitimate mind to music... doesn't matter what GENERE
When a violin is played by country musicians it is considered a fiddle. That's why this contest between the devil and Johnny was who could play the "fiddle" better.
"Fire on the mountain, run boys run.
The devil's in the house of the rising sun.
Chicken in the bread pan pickin out dough,
Granny does your dog bite, no child, no."
is a "call" that was used in square dancing for many many years.
When Charlie said, "I done told you once you son of a bitch, I'm the best there's ever been" he used a word that was probably not allowed on country radio station at that time (1979) and he recorded the song as "you son of a gun".
In country, folk and blue grass music it is a FIDDLE. Thank you
45 years on this song still makes me tap my feet and smile. ❤️🌹
I love the line "Johnny rosin up your bow & play your fiddle hard"
🎻 Rest in Peace to a fantastic musician and story teller. God needed you, Charlie, at His Honky Tonk in the stars. Thanks for many musical memories, you are missed! 🎻
One of the most humble and talented musicians also a lil trivia Dr Dre said Charlie Daniel's is one of the original OG rappers.
I'm not sure if you noticed that they used this song to close out the concert. So he just used all of that energy, lung power, voice control, and playing skill after already exhausting himself doing a full concert.
Welcome to 1979. Charlie Daniels is a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame and this song is still played on both classic country and classic rock radio stations today. Another great story song of his, The Legend of Wooley Swamp. Great reaction
This was played on pop radio at the time. Top 40. Can you imagine that today?
Happy you reacted to this, the devil lost a long time ago.
This concert was done in upstate New York. The song is a mix of Rock, Country, and Early Rap.
Some people say the difference between a violin and a fiddle is this: The violin is an instrument with STRINGS. The fiddle is an instrument with STRANGS. Actually, my daughter's orchestra conductor, a string player (cello, mostly) told me that a fiddle is a violin that has had the bridge flattened just a little to make it easier to play more than one string at a time. It is what gives it the "twangy" sound.
I've heard that about modifying the bridge, too. I've also noticed that fiddler bow techniques are quite different than classical techniques. Fiddlers, by and large, use shorter strokes more towards the center of the bow. Classical techniques are usually employing the full length of the bow.
I really like the instrument whatever someone wants to call it or whatever style someone chooses. But I admit, I don't think anyone truly compares to Hilary Hahn.
@@maybedrinkin3241 Itzhak Perlman, one of the greatest violinists of all time, referred to his instrument as a fiddle. And yes, he could also play Bluegrass. Saw him in concert ones in the 1980s
@@maryrichardson1318 Itzhak is fantastic. I guess it would unfair to compare their respective abilities to play while hula hooping. :)
That's right lol, he is one of if not the best fiddle player in the world.
It's a very special song by one of the great fiddlers & story tellers (rest in peace Charlie Daniels). It's been covered by loads of different artists but this is the 'must-see' video of it. Thanks for playing this & your comments.
charlie daniels playing the orange blossom special is iconic
It's a fiddle❤❤❤❤
I heard the only difference between a fiddle and a violin is the violin has strings and the fiddle has strangs 😂
🤣
Yep. Violins have nylon strings. Fiddles have steel strangs. 😂
It’s a fiddle good reaction
Thanks
Charlie IS Johnny, period🔴 He’s a Christian too 🙏🏻. He’s now 😇, but his memory lives on in his music 🎶. Another great reaction King 👏🏻🥰‼️
Their " Legend of Wooley Swamp " is another great storytelling song.
Yes! Wooly Swamp is awesome!
Yeah I’m not much into country but I do kinda like this one….OG rap lol
Def!
RIP Charlie thanks for the memories
The legend of the wooly swamp by Charlie Daniels band.
Coming soon
Country rap by the late great Charlie Daniels!
Rap didn't exist in 1979 beyond maybe a couple of isolated street corners in New York City. This was considered to be more in the fashion of "talking blues"
@@xheralt, I will tell that to the Sugar Hill gang and their song "Rapper's Delight" that came out in 1979, by the way. And, no, "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" was not talking blues. There is more of a cadence to the song and it uses internal rhyming and schemes in the same way modern rap does... something that talking blues does not have.
Glad I circled back for this. TY.
Thanks!
HE WAS RAPPING.. THIS WAS 1979.... QUEEN IN 74 DID RAP ON A SONG CALLED STONE COLD CRAZY , FREDDIE RAPPING SUPER FAST FLOW IN 1974..
Rapture 1980 Deborah Harry raps in that as well. Rapping ....actually it's roots are in country music! And then it started extending into other areas. I'm still trying to figure out how it wound up being just a black thing....?!
@Sunny-jz3dy Johnny Cash 10 years earlier in A Boy Named Sue. Spoken word actually goes back to the 1880s in Germany. A composer named Englebert Humperdink created a stage play full of spoken word.
No booze, drugs or groupies. For fun Charlie wrestled the band!!!
Oh wow I can't believe you did this one I was about to go to sleep and I saw this and I'm like you did not just do this I'm going to have to watch this I'm going to have to watch your face❤❤❤❤❤❤
Spring of 1979. Classic country 2/4 beat. You probably don’t recognize that for the chorus - they are naming four very famous old-time fiddle tunes from the 1800s. Traditional country on modern instruments.
Why not Sacramento? He already has all the souls there. Lol!
Lol
Much love!
Love
Hi, my family is from the Wilmington , N.C area and Charlie Daniels is/was my cousin.
Wow! 🙏🏽
Got to listen to Uneasy Rider and the entire Fire On The Mountain album. His early stuff. Long Haired Country Boy was my high school theme.
My country jam!
Charlie did a country cover of the rock classic "Layla", and it slapped every bit as hard as the original. Instead of Clapton's screaming guitar, Charlie had his fiddle screaming.
You should check out "Uneasy Rider", by him and the band, too. It's definitely an interesting song.
Great song choice. Listen to them words again. 😅😅😅😅
i can tell at 1:44 your are going to love this. Quick and perceptive.
Love this song. Great band. Very devout Christian.
I'm a boomer. Listen to Abraham and Martin and John by Dion. It's about the assassinations of Lincoln, King and Kennedy. Also listen to Ohio by Crosby stills Nash and young about the Kent State University shootings of students by the National Guard. Both made huge impacts on my generation.
Charlie Dainel's band... Wooley Swamp is a great story.
Stay tuned
You need to do a deep dive into Charlie daniels. He's got a hell of a list of cool music. Love your show.
Thank you so much for your continued support ❤️
That guy was throwing down !
Uneasy Rider and Uneasy Rider 88 are great stories also!
THE MUPPET SHOW did a really good performance of this song.
Charlie plays a fiddle!
There is a follow up to this 20 years later with a full star cast with Johnny Cash Travis Tritt and Marty Stuart even better THE DEVIL GOES BACK TO GEORGIA
How about a song called play that funky music by a band named wild cherry.
Added. Stay tuned
Still in Saigon... Protected by prayer
This is such a great song
I would recommend Ray Stephens. He has a lot of good stuff but I thing. "The Mississippi Squirrel Revival" is his best.
The difference between a violin and fiddle is, a fiddle is played with twang.
I know there was a video for the sequel, “the devil comes back to Georgia “
If you want to see another fiddler, try Allison Krauss and Union Station. This is The Boy Who Won't Hoe Corn. She wasn't the lead singer but she played the fiddle. th-cam.com/video/EIs0KMFJvWE/w-d-xo.html
Stagolee byPacific Gas and Electric❤️
What he was doing is similar to rap. Cadence, story telling similar, different groove.
yeah, he was rappin.
Yeah, in the Country/Southern Rock genre, it’s a fiddle. 🎻
💯
It’s a fiddle people. It has to do with the strings. It’s a fiddle
I believe he was one of the first rapper. Lesson again
Just became a new subscriber ...How about alien ant farm Video doing Michael Jackson's smooth criminal It's a big homage to Michael
Thanks and welcome to the community adding to the list!
I don't know if you are super familiar with the Rolling Stones, but they have a tone of songs that are pretty fire. Sympathy for the Devil is a great place to start. The official lyric video is the one to react to. It would be a rabbit hole that you can't resist. You could do a top 100 list of Stones songs and be forced to leave out some damn good music. They have been rocking since 1961 and just released a new album in late 2023. They are starting a new tour in a couple weeks at the the age of 80 years old.
This song went to #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1979
If you want to see something more impressive than playing with a broken arm, check out Pour Some Sugar on Me by Def Leopard. So you know where to look, pay attention to the drummer.
Ok.. just started watching.. first off.. it's Charlie not Charles.. I'm pretty sure this was from 1977 and this is country music.. it's not a violin.. its a Fiddle.. lol.. this is country rap..RIP Charlie
Classic musicians play a violin. Country boys play a fiddle....but, it's the same instrument. Charlie passed away in 2020 at the age of 83.
Fiddle has/uses metal strings
Violin has/used nylon strings
Two totally different sounds.
First things first. Get the album decade of hits by Charlie Daniels Band that will give you at least 10 good songs to start off with to react to minus The Devil went down to Georgia, which you just reacted to
However Iwant to give you some other good songs to react to
1 Rainbow Ride
2 Blind Man
3 Lonesome Boy from Dixie
4 Dance Gypsy Dance
5 Alligator
And a number of other songs
1979
Fiddle
That is not a violin that's a fiddle.
Try The Devil Went to Jamaica
He’s playing a fiddle. If you want to know the difference between a fiddle and violin it’s attitude.
I also found out for a violin they use catgut (nylon) strings and a fiddle uses steel. It makes sense when you realize that if they used catgut and played the way Charlie did, your strings wouldn't even hold up for 1 song.
Red Sovine,, Teddy Bear, I dare ya
The word fiddle is used throughout the song. Not violin.
🎻🔥🎻🔥🎻
Correct he is playing with a broken arm!
That’s a fiddle
That's NOT a violin!!! That's a FIDDLE. The difference being, who's playing it. 🙂
You got a skeleton picture in the background and u Worried about the devil?
Oops 😬 👀 😂
Now try Leo Moracchioli's metal version of the song...
1 minute and 10 seconds into this and I think you're whacked
Thanks 🙂
Why not Georgia...?
How do you like his rap.
fiddles use metal strings becauseyou play it harder...violin uses catgut...
Dude.
I know you have never heard this...
You are obviously struggling.
Please, just freaking listen.
Called a Fiddle in country music not violin
Man you know a brother never judge a book by its cover!
Better known as CDB!!! Good old country music!
