      The real difference I was taught is that a violin has strings made out of cat gut or other synthetic material and fiddle strings a made out of steel.

    When a violin is played by country musicians it is considered a fiddle. That's why this contest between the devil and Johnny was who could play the "fiddle" better.
    "Fire on the mountain, run boys run.
    The devil's in the house of the rising sun.
    Chicken in the bread pan pickin out dough,
    Granny does your dog bite, no child, no."
    is a "call" that was used in square dancing for many many years.
    When Charlie said, "I done told you once you son of a bitch, I'm the best there's ever been" he used a word that was probably not allowed on country radio station at that time (1979) and he recorded the song as "you son of a gun".

    Some people say the difference between a violin and a fiddle is this: The violin is an instrument with STRINGS. The fiddle is an instrument with STRANGS. Actually, my daughter's orchestra conductor, a string player (cello, mostly) told me that a fiddle is a violin that has had the bridge flattened just a little to make it easier to play more than one string at a time. It is what gives it the "twangy" sound.

    • @maybedrinkin3241
      @maybedrinkin3241 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I've heard that about modifying the bridge, too. I've also noticed that fiddler bow techniques are quite different than classical techniques. Fiddlers, by and large, use shorter strokes more towards the center of the bow. Classical techniques are usually employing the full length of the bow.
      I really like the instrument whatever someone wants to call it or whatever style someone chooses. But I admit, I don't think anyone truly compares to Hilary Hahn.

      @johndeeregreen4592 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@xheralt, I will tell that to the Sugar Hill gang and their song "Rapper's Delight" that came out in 1979, by the way. And, no, "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" was not talking blues. There is more of a cadence to the song and it uses internal rhyming and schemes in the same way modern rap does... something that talking blues does not have.

    I don't know if you are super familiar with the Rolling Stones, but they have a tone of songs that are pretty fire. Sympathy for the Devil is a great place to start. The official lyric video is the one to react to. It would be a rabbit hole that you can't resist. You could do a top 100 list of Stones songs and be forced to leave out some damn good music. They have been rocking since 1961 and just released a new album in late 2023. They are starting a new tour in a couple weeks at the the age of 80 years old.
