Yes…. I know all of these concertos are fabulous music but to me there’s nothing that can compete with the Tjaikovsky concerto. It’s just so much emotion.
Wonderful video, hopefully there’s a part 2 😊😊? Sibelius, Prokofiev, Shostakovich, Mozart, Paganini and Bruch are waiting among others for their time to shine ✨ ✨✨
Joseph Joachim was 12 years old when he played the Beethoven concerto with Mendelssohn conducting. That performance must´ve been glorious, given the fact that it kind of solely made it famous for centuries to come.
I used to have a Deutch Gramaphon recording of Oistrakh with the Berlin Symphony playing the Brahms. I've never found the same recording on CD, but it really changed my life... Thank you for your insights! My 1, 2, 3 are the Brahms, the Tchaikovsky and the Mendelssohn...
Really enjoyed your talk Sumina covering the aesthetic and social/cultural context so well. Though I feel that Sibelius and Shostakovich and even Khachaturian deserve similar status as these great concertos. Also if you are talking about aesthetics how could you not talk about Mozart or single-movement show pieces like the Sarasate Zigeunerweisen or Monti Csardas or Saint Seans Introduction and Rondo, not to forget the Bach Chaconne?
It's called mass appeal. There is a reason only a small percentage of all pieces are regularly played. The consumers want to hear them and not the others.
actually I prefer my own compositions (please see my channel) o Max Bruch's number 1. I also prefer his number 2 to number 1. I COME FROM THE Beethoven AND Tchaikovsky lineage. Maybe I'll write a concerto for violin one day. It'll be a sort of fusion of these 2 composers' great, great concerti.

might just be me but I think Brahms can arguably be more emotional than Tchaik
How cone vinyovsky vitron sainseabs not even Sibelius or great Mozart didn’t make the list? Maybe because they were not German
