Yak 50 engine failure

- A beautiful day in the magnificent Lake District of the UK; perfect for wandering the skies in a Yak 50, until the oil pressure drops and the engine stops. This video shows the importance of receiving good foundation training when getting your Warbirds rating: what you learn first will stick to your memory. If you learn poor habits, or if your understanding of your aircraft's systems is too vague, it will be extremely difficult to de-learn so that you can re-learn the right way. The flying environment in a Warbird is pretty different to your average club's aircraft, so it is important to receive training from an organization who has adapted its pedagogy to maximize efficiency for Warbirds pilots and prepare them to anything coming down the track, like display flying and formation flying. Details: The aircraft was on a local flight from Carlisle Airport when the engine failed due to loss of oil pressure. The windscreen became partially obscured with an oil film but the pilot was able to make a forced landing in a field, during which the aircraft was substantially damaged. He vacated the aircraft unaided, but later attended hospital as his injuries became more apparent. On examining the engine, the pilot identified that the oil pressure adjustment valve was missing from the oil scavenge pump housing. It was found in the lower cowling with no evidence of the expected wire locking. He believed that the valve had worked loose and fallen out during the accident flight, causing the oil loss. The aircraft had recently undergone extensive maintenance at EGMJ which included an overhaul of the oil scavenge pump assembly. Initial flights following this work revealed a small oil leak in the area of the pump, which at the time, was thought to be have been remedied by an engineer tightening the small vertical bolts adjacent to the pressure adjustment valve.
Pilot: Andy Wilson
Aircraft: Yak-50
Location: Bothel, Cumbria
*Crash Landing* You will leave your aircraft in: 15...
Rulo6000 Goes soft landing man, shame on you Rulo, just kidding you make the best videos in the world *Windows XP startup ear rape intensifies*

Achievement: Soft Landing!
**Holds J**
it is not, that is not airfield -_-
Armorpiercer well shit
That’s gonna cost you some silver lions
YOU'VE GOT A HOLE IN YOUR RIGHT WING!!!!
Respect for skill and keeping balls and happy for good landing!
This could have gone really bad, but the Pilot and the controller kept their cool and did what any good flyer would have done.
Thanks Alexander. Very interesting
He was mostly lucky to have big terrains to land... If there was just mountains and rocks he would be screwed.
That is true, even Scully couldn't land if that was the case.
I think is on purpose so the airplane wouldnt dig on the dirt and capsize...
^ this.
This is such an incredible video!
one of my favorites
was really hoping for a crash
you do it, he's thanking his training and skill which are real and actually allowed him to do this.
A good example of what results in handeling a situation calm and steady.
Bless your heart Sir...you kept your cool and walked away...awesome.
Pilot kept calm and solved the problem as gracefully as humanly possible. Just shows that skill & training make all the difference in the world! Good job, sir!
That ATC tho!! Has a v quick decent response to everything the pilot relayed to him. Professional AF!
This is a weird watch commercial...
Dyl Connaway It’s a TH-cam glitch where the main video you’re trying to watch is showen as a add, I’ve had this problem too
If they were all like this, I'd definitely watch more.
no, this was part of the video editing. lmao
Take-offs are optional, landings are mandatory.
shuftie don’t know how take-offs are optional but okay

Andrei Macaria Lol, waaaay over.
ImToSaucy30 Ever heard the phrase "what goes up must come down"? You don't have to go up, but if you choose to do so then you must come down.
Buttfart if that was true there would be no Kessler's syndrome.
Now that's what I call a pilot !
Shit yeah, well said Niccolo.
I can genuinely see my house in this video and that makes me much happier than it ever should.
Good save. Thanks for posting!
wow!!! What a neat landing!! Great flying,,,,my salute to you!!!
Any landing you can walk away from is a good landing; any landing you can use the plane after is an excellent one. In that sense, I tip my hat to the pilot for keeping his cool.
Glad to see you landed safely. Good pilot!
You did a fantastic job. Well done sir
big thumbs up to the pilot i had my first flying lesson today hope i get the same knowledge as this pilot he seemed so chilled
This is Something!!! Good Job Pilot!! I hail you!!
Great level headed pilot there for not loosing his cool. Well done Sir
So glad you are ok!
Simply the Hero! AWSM job mate!
Excellent video!
You kept calm and made some really good decisions! I applaud you.
Very good to watch and very informative video.
simple F16 copy.......japan need much more investments in military to revenge WW2
the reason why he didnt pop out the landing gear was to ensure smooth landing on the belly. if he do open that landing gear, that will cost a lot!
Wow. I know nothing about flying planes, but the landing looks like the work of a master. Glad you are safe Mr Wilson, excellent handling of the situation.
Great job, almost made it look boring it was so good... well done..!!
scotty id rather an emergency landing be boring than scary.
Really helps one's confidence and courage imo 😊👌
Text book job Sir. Very well done old boy. Regards from Down Under.
Excellent control!
thats an awesome video man! you survived a dangerous impact, nice handling!
That was a lot smoother and executed than i expected
Very nice, given the situation and landing conditions.
Very tense to watch. Well done pilot!
What a landing, so calm
great video!!
dang! What a save, very well done!
A very unfortunate situation so I feel a bit weird saying this, but it was lovely to watch! Seeing you scope out the landing and myself figuring out where you'd picked, my nuts ran a bit high so I can't imagine what you were feeling, then the landing... sticky mud tipped you a bit but wow... perfect. I suck at anything above how high I can jump, but I'd gladly get in a plane with you sir!
You are safe. Good work
Amazing control 👌🏼
Good Work,Great skill,Top notch training....PAY,S....
Well done!
Good landing. And walked away. Well done.
waaw , best landing ever seen , just perfect on time , super flare , came to a stop within 100 feet jees man . very nice
Awesome video of a very well handled emergency.
Kudos to the pilot!
Well done mate
Good job
The Yakovlev Yak-50 has a Wing loading: 60.7 kg/m² (12.43 lb/(sq ft)). yet he is gliding for 7 minutes. The engine must have still been producing some thrust. Pilot did a great job of controlling plane and keeping calm down to the landing.
Wow. Great pilot and excellent decide where to land.
Put it down very well there. Must be a skilled pilot
Great save!
Looks like you applied some constant aspect approach principles. Bloody well done on the landing.
wow he stayed so calm
Nice landing, glad he's safe.
Great Job!!!!…..
Mad props for keeping a cool head good sir.
Beautiful ending!
Shoulda, coulda, woulda... Everyone just shut the hell up already! I've had a real engine failure in a Cessna 172 myself and I got it back to a runway alive... You think I care after that what I should have done? No! I used the skill I had to put it down safely at an airfield and I walked away, so did this guy, that's what matters...
make this the all about you show sure...
An Onymous he's saying that its not important what could have been done more rather that the important thing is that he walked waway and that the pilot walked away
codzomz boi
Never Mind hey check his channel he flies
Never Mind good point keep on trolling my man
Oh man.. this was a little too close to home. I suffered a broken pushrod in a C152 Aerobat (with a student pilot...first lesson), and had to nurse this aircraft back to home, battling to maintain altitude until I was back over the strip, and then just dump it back to the ground. The field field had been closed, and all emergency services were in attendance. We made it, and my new student continued with me. Anyway, it was so great to see that this man in the YAK survived, and that there was fairly minimal damage to the aircraft. Only a fellow pilot could truly understand.
im no pilot at all...but from my perspective this adventure had all the ingredients needed for some death statistic compiling! the guy seem pretty calm, if that would had been me i would had been so happy not to be dead once it was all over hahaha
Ragimund VonWallat well, staying calm and collected is the best thing you can do in _any_ dangerous or otherwise challenging situation.
And flying, as a whole, is inherently dangerous. _Very_ dangerous. Like....frontier dangerous. Absolutely not for the soft-hearted.
I personally believe one should not go up into the air unless they accept the possibility that they may not come back down alive.
Hey Daniel, I agree totally, but then I leaned to fly I learned to fly to get over a crippling fear of heights. Am I still afraid of heights... you bet! I go weak in the knees and sick in my stomach just playing video games on a rooftop! But in an aircraft ( when at the controls ), I could not be more at home. The real blessing is that the self control that one MUST exercise when piloting an aircraft transfers itself into so many areas of one's life ( except rooftop video games in my case LOL). Have you ever flown? If not, why not give a trial flight a go: you need not take it any further, but challenge yourself : ), you may well be surprised!
Great job getting it down and walking away
Another happy landing!
I'm amazed at how quiet that was. It was eerie.
I'm glad that you made it, even if you are advertising for that weird watch.
*WOW!!!* Now that's some flying!!!
Respect!
That was scary.
I'm so glad to see the guy walking around at the end.
smooth landing
Im a aspiring pilot but man this channel looks cool.
Glad that they landed safely.
Balls of steel!
You made it!
well done
Another happy landing
can feel the pressure building up til reaching ground and impact
I've come to the conclusion that you're almost correct. I fly by the saying - "Any landing you make and manage not to break anything or waste anyones time is worth it."
maybe im like dutch from odst flying aint my thing but good to know they kept it nice and dandy
Hate do see a downed yak, but glad you made it out safe. That wasn't a crash, that was a Text book crash landing. You did great at chopping your speed before reaching zero elevation.
nice landing
Excellent! :)
Airframe seems to be in one piece still! But the most important thing is that the pilot is fine! Great flying, 10/10 would want to have this guy at the controls in an emergency
another happy landing
1. What does this have to do with watches apart from the fact he looks at one at the start? We just remember the brand because its associated with a crash? OK, just seeking understanding.
2. Really thought he was going to make friends with that wall at the end, he looked like he was well into stall territory and when that wing dropped ... I am amazed it was all in one piece! Well done, those walls must be tough to spot from the air
Bremont have a history of giving watches to aircrew who survived a crash.

Well handled :)
nice save
you are awesome
Taking a ride on a supply hop the Otter I was in developed an oil leak.
I was looking around for a clearing in the jungle canopy when the pilot pointed and said "We'll put down there."
I said "Where? That footprint?!!" Sure enough, it was a clearing just long enough to land.
The mark of a true professional is if you remembered to use the toilet BEFORE the emergency.
well.done
Another happy landing.
What a landing!
whoah... :o what a story to tell after surviving this!
That pilot has skill!
You make it look easy... hehehe
Skylar Sims thats the mark of a skilled pilot :-)
Well done! Though now you have the horrors of Bothel to deal with!
Any landing you're able to walk away from is a good landing . Very lucky he had altitude, good weather and multiple sites to choose from . Could have been much worse . Nice piloting skills 👏👍
smooth
Good thing u were flying Yak
That was smoother then my last landing on airliner
We in every warthunder game
They wouldn't set up a plane crash to advertise a watch. He was setting the timer on the watch.
