nice job again baz!!! i use to work for fords and probably 1 in 50 parts we would have the wrong part in the wrong box..sometimes a handed part wrong or sometimes a belt with the wrong number on it-it happens and like you said you checked and found out

Yes mate, ‘crisis averted’ is perfect use of the language. One minor correction if I may (as a naturalised German): it’s ‘sheff-ler’ for the pronunciation of the timing belt manufacturer. No offence meant. All the best from sunny Austria and keep the videos coming.
you asked how i locked the flywheel when i was commenting on doing the fiesta ecoboost with no timming locking tools. what you did with the screwdriver in this vid is basically what i did. good tip on the water pump teeth, thats something id never have thought to look for as an amateur. you just take it for granted that parts like that would be correct, but just show you eh. another good tip learned. cheers
@@jondadon3586 im 100% serious. im honestly not winding anybody up. did it with no timming tools. must have just got lucky that it was right. well i say right tbh honest i do think its a degree or two out but it runs good enough for me

Well of course the camshaft spun round when putting the belt on ahah. Managed to line it back up and all good but typical when someones watching. Just made sure to tell him not to do what I did always use the tool haha
What I do with these metal profile gaskets is torque them up, wait 5-10min and retorque. Usually you can get about 1/8 more turn with same torque setting when gasket has settled.
Yes Gates kits are bad even in OEM package bearings tends to make rustling noise after few years of use. Dayco have the same problem. Had few of renault OEM with the same issue. Ina kits are OK, they have continental belt included as INA don't make belts and INA tensioner bearings and rollers. Water pumps in INA kits are repacked, they don't manufacture pumps- China made possible. Best option will be for any aftermarket belt to choose INA belt and tensioner kit without water pump. Water pump can be from graf, sil, hepu, GMB.
I heard recently that Gates timing belt kit's etc are not of the quality they used to be? Happy to hear your take on that! Like you i use INA belt kit's 👍
It's the bearings which are essential and Gates sources the bearings from the worst places possible. Belts itself are excellent quality, as they are a rubber manufacturer.

Not come across that water pump issue - well spotted! Can I ask what brand/where you got your coolant vacuum filler kit from please? Think I need to get one! Thanks
just rewatched the part about the waterpump teeth/belt not right and you then fit a gates belt. how did changing the belt fix the problem, cause in my head for the gates belt to fit the pump teeth the teeth/ridges on the belt would have to be thicker/bigger to match the teeth on the pump. if this is the case does that not then make the teeth/ridges of the belt too big for the other pulleys???? confused
There's no confusion to it, the ina pump was wrong but the belt was right it's a full kit as seen as I unbox it. The full kit then got replaced with a gates kit
@@bazmeredith I mean why do you bother timing it up. I work on a lot of common rail engines and in my case the manufacturer says its not required, just wondered what the manufacturer recommends in this case as you didn't really expand on that point.
Hi Baz, you didn’t seem too happy about fitting the Gates belt. Is there a reason mate. We used to use nothing but Gates. Have you had any problems with them at all. Thanks for your time love your channel. Cheers Craig. 👍🏼🙂
My mini 1.6d dv6 was a little different, had a problem where even though it was timed up, the camshaft pin was tight but by about a millimetre. wasn’t a tooth out so couldn’t work out why only 1 pin was tight. Also the fuel pump was different, it had a hole rather than a tolerance notch
Dont these have the crappy chain for the cams? I've got a 2020 peugeot partner in bits having it's 2nd chain that's failed. Peugeot do a modified top end but its on back order
I know you aren't a fan of gates but personally I have not had any problems, although there is a worrying trend of the stuff in the box not being what it used to be, we try to stick with known suppliers and if a problem occurs they will stand behind it.
So if the diesel pump needs timing, what exactly is it timed to? The pump pulley is rotating at two thirds crank shaft rpm, no relationship to anything ! 44 tooth cam, 33 diesel pump and 22 on the crank.
Pump is timed so as to harmonize the balance between the pump and camshaft, thus increasing the timing belt life, this is what i was told when i worked for peugeot.
That definitely wasn't right with that water pump. Never seen a gap like that in 20 years. Just oug of interest, why do you prefer that timing belt and not the gates? All weve ever fitted ate gates at our place!
I've had lots of bad experiences with gates with failed tensioners and guids failing, nothing wrong with gates belt it's just the rubbish they put in the box with it
i would just say that some crank pulley bolts need a lot nm then some i would be worried about all that strain on 1 small tooth better to use a mighty strong pully holder but each to their own

great for showing us the issue with the water pump your honesty is great also love a dry belt and not those VX grandland wet belts
i thought it was just ford that did wet belts. you can learn so much on youtube
Love doing these DV6 cam belts, same on majority of Fords too.
Did my first belt on a Focus with same engine. Was bricking it but all went smooth. Quite enjoy timing belts now.

This might be a stupid question but why is the water pump always replaced with the cam belt?
Because once the tension is taken off 99% of the time they will leak

Great spot with the wrong belt 👍
Would you say it's worth pulling the sump pan off and giving it a good clean especially on the higher mileage cars?
Wouldn't have thought so, unless there's oil light flashing
its a two min job to stick a camera in the sump plug hole to inspect the condition though, sludge build up and oil strainer condition

Why did the Peugeot engine cam have FoMoCo on it? Ford engine in there?
