To say you saved me and my family is understatement. We are family of 5 who had to take cold showers for almost 3 weeks. I owe you big-time. A huge THANK YOU from the Wright family out here in California.
This sounds nuts, but I take cold showers intentionally, and if you look into it, they are really good for you. If you can wait about 2 minutes in the cold, it'll drop your beats per minute of your heart by 20 beats for 24 hours. I'm glad you all have your warm water back, and have a good day!
Dude, you just saved me untold hundreds of dollars. Maybe thousands I don't know. Anyway you made that simple, clear, and just plain smart and easy for the do-it-yourselfer and not forgetting all the safety features. Thank you.
Thank You So Much. The spark ignitor on my gas water heater went bad and so I hadx to replace this burner assembly. I was quite anxious about it because I am not at all handy when it comes to plumbing issues. But with an estimate of between $600 and $800 dollars to get a professional to do it- I decided to give it a try myself. Less than $140 dollars for the part and about an hour of my time- Job Complete and hot water restored! Thanks again Roger for the simple and straight forward instructions! If I can do it- anyone can!!
Just ordered the burner assembly & my son's gonna install it. Your video is the best tutorial I've found!!! Thanks a million - or at least the thousands it would cost me to have a new on installed!!!❤
Thank you so much! This video was so easy to understand and follow! I’m a single woman who’s a new homeowner and not used to fixing such things. So simple and saved a lot of cash!
You sir. I can't thank you enough. My area was hit by flood waters and plumbers are busy till December. After being without hot water for several days, I finally was able to get the hot water heater working again after watching this video. I thank you and my children thank you.
Very good video. I have done this quite a few times. One thing I do on the brass compression fitting to the control valve is put Permatex Teflon pipe sealant on the threads and the back side of the flare on the pipe. It acts as lubricant as you are tightening the nut and will seal any little nicks on the flare. Never had a gas leak doing this.
Question: are The AO Smith hit water heaters model GCV 50 301...serial number starting with 1344 outdated? Been looking for the burner assembly...can't find them anywhere.
just did it for the first time. Changed the burner assembly and we've got hot water! thank you so much for all you do! Just subscribed! Saved me $1500 on what the repairman was gonna charge me for replacing the water heater!
Follow-up message ❤: The burner assembly came! Step by PERFECT step it is in & working FINE!!! You are an ANGEL disguised in Master Plumber clothing❤😅❤!!! Thank you beyond measure!!!!❤🙌🏽❤
Wanted to say thanks for the straight forward instructions...it is really confidence building to have a consummate professional helping you to understand a process.
your instructions on assembly removal were helpful. Flood left water in the spare heater I had purchased but not yet installed. Friend and his plumber buddy pulled the assembly out. Saw some corrosion in a spot under the burner pan. Scraped it a bit and heard a click. reinstall and voila, burner lights.
Whats up bud, what stores carry these burner assembly? Any stores or websites i should look in? Are they Universal? I have a 2009 GE gas water heater and i m having a hard time finding the burner assembly kit? Thank you for your videos!
Great video. One important note - some Honeywell control valves use a left-handed thread on the gas line connection, so need to be careful when first disconnecting the line to avoid damaging the threads in the control valve.
Hey I know your comment is a year old but thank you so much. I had already stripped the grip but then saw your comment, and with a bolt extractor kit was able to get it off. I hope you're having a wonderful day.
Your a great teacher man,i know how to do this but i like to watch other people doing it plus you can always pick up a few tips,I'm changing my gas valve right now but I'm taking my time, i figured 3 days of cold showers will make me appreciate what i have and make me realize how fortunate i am,in some countries people dont even now what a gas heater is,lol

I wanted to ask, today I replaced the thermopile on my state select water heater. I brushed the inside and cleaned bottom ring filter, and vacuumed inside burner assembly BUT , when I removed the burner assembly the gasket was totally cracked and brittle. I resumed install and have it running without a gasket, you can feel some warmth but it’s not dramatic at all. I'm wanting to convert same ring burner system to lpg. Is there just one orifice to change or do I need a suitable ring? Would the regulator need adjusting or replacing also?
Great video with good explanation even for novices. Here is a side question Roger, which I have a hard time finding answers. Most appliances (Furnaces, stoves etc) are easily convertible from NG to LP. Why water heater manufactures discourage or even prohibit to convert water heaters from NG to LP even though some manufacture both furnaces and water heaters (e.g Rheem). What is the reasoning behind not converting water heaters? Thanks
Roger, you are the man! Thank you for these helpful and detailed tutorials. I have a question: our water heater pilot won’t doesn’t stay lit. I’m able to keep it on long enough to get the burner going, but it goes out between 10-15 minutes later. I replaced the thermocouple and it had no effect. The flame has a lot of yellow/orange in it. Do you think I need to change out the burner assembly or is this a thermostat problem? If the latter, is that also an easy DIY project?
Is it bad if the thermocouple and ignitor pin to be touched by the flame from the top round disc during normal operation? Or should it be more far apart ?
Do anyone have a recommendation for the gas nut being screwed into the gas valve if it won’t connect. The Honeywell gas valve replacement is made by resideo and it will not screw into the new unit. Everything else works but not gas line in
