    Just subscribed a few minutes ago. I’m a 61 year old man who lives, eats and breathes knuckle busting projects and enjoys manual labor. I saw you working in your cast and I just knew I would enjoy your channel. I really respect that you do what you can despite your injury. You are learning the same way any man or woman does…. by just doing it. It’s a gut check that most can’t seem to get past. I like the cut of your jib!

      Thanks for this! I’m glad you’re here tuning in. And yes! It’s a Yankee jib, which is cut high because it’s a cutter rig - easier to get past the stay on a tack.

    I learned to sail on a 24’ sloop with a plank-on-frame hull. The planks along freeboard never fully seal, so whenever you heel over the boat takes on water. My job at the end of the day was to pump out the bilge. Seeing you use your little hand pump to pump out your bilge brought back many memories.

    Can't remember how i found your channel but I've grown very fond of checking in with you once a week. This week's adventures came at a time when I've been feeling quite unsatisfied with my own pursuits and really down on myself in general. I feel that life is due to 'pay me' very soon but it's been this way for a few years now...and then your video dropped and I saw a little perspective. My god you don't have an easy life but you crack on with what needs to be done and in front of camera show strength and humility when plenty (me) would have crumbled. Anyway, thanks I guess. Hope that knee sorts itself out.

    YAAAAY NICOLE! Step by step, keeping it all organized, under control and moving forward according to your master plan.
    I'm sure getting that cast off is a tremendous relief! . . please, from here on out, be aware of your posture and movements because you've got some strengthening still to go.
    It's not the same thing, but when I was younger, I played a lot of basketball and suffered too many sprained ankles, coming down awkwardly from a leap on the outer edge, rather than the sole of my foot and it would get twisted, injuring the tendons on the outside of my left ankle around the knob.
    What I found needed to be done while I was laid up off my feet, and after I was able to walk, was to train my ankle.
    The tendons I damaged would be so weak that when I walked or ran, when my foot was in the air it would twist and not be parallel to the ground.
    So when I lay down or was driving, I would intentionally turn my ankle the other way, so as the tendon kept healing, it would take up the slack to some extent.
    If I didn't do that, I could reinjure it walking up stairs or something.
    So maybe you can consider thinking along these lines.
    KEEP ON ROCKING, NICOLE! YOU'RE FANTASTIC!

    • @SailingArtha
      @SailingArtha  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh wow! That’s crazy to hear about your ankle. I hope it ended up healing okay. It sounds like your rehabilitation efforts would definitely pay off though. I'm sorry your knee is continuing to be a problem. I get it, though. It's hard to sit back and rest when there's so much that needs to be done and the only one that's going to do it is you.
    I wish I had some advice to give that would make this easier. All I have is that you've shown yourself to be a strong willed woman, and this is just another obstacle that'll prove that even more. It may not seem like it at any particular moment, but you are, in fact, inspiring to a good many people.

    Bonjour. Olivier.

    Had similar or same problem with knee fluid when young. Never had cast on leg just resting leg knee for quite a while like 2 months. First dr took liquid out with needle seringe then again happened and just was told to rest. Finally i was back no fluid and swelling gone in about 3 months. My swelling was very bad all around knee.
    I think you should just stop sork for a while.
    If you can, add extra hyliards for heasails and main. Topping lift reinforcing to be able to use it as extra main hyliard ...i know is maybe too late...best of luck , cuidate. Saludos

      @SailingArtha  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I’m glad your knee got better. They drained mine twice and the fluid came back a third time and turned solid. And yes, good thinking for sure. I do already have a main, stay, jib, and spare halyard rigged along with a topping lift.

    I'm sure that cast sucks, but I can tell there's no way you would have stayed off that leg on your own. I'm surprised it even lasted this long 👍
    Also, have you considered installed mast steps while you have it down? That's one thing I wish my boat had....
