In our house ca. 1977, MacDonald Carey's announcement meant one thing...nap time. I was so lucky to have my (not single) Mom home with us while Dad went out to work.
I really like that they showed the commercials too. I can still picture being home with my mom. She'd stop to watch this & sometimes she'd let me nap on the couch.
Oh, thanks so much for posting this, there are a lot of DOOL openings on TH-cam, but the 1972 copyright is how most of us remember the opening credits. And there's Fran Ryan (aka Doris Ziffel) !
@@cindypruitt9534Never see those personal products advertised anymore. Thank God. Even the Cialis and Viagra ones are gone. Uncomfortable in group settings
Days Of Our Lives is one of my favorite opening themes along with ABC movie of the week. Both bring back memories of happy times during the early 70s The copyright for this opening theme of Days Of Our Lives is dated 1972
A woman saying "douche" seems to have an UTTERLY HILARIOUS meaning today! LOL! "💁♀Summer's Eve, why not buy cheap douche?" THAT'S WHAT THEY DO IN WASHINGTON, D.C. daily. LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!
You know I just thought the late Alex Trebek of Jeopardy died exactly on November 8 2020.The very same day as Days Of Our Lives 55th anniversary!!--Can you believe that?!
I'm gonna take a stab at it and say... '72 is when they updated their opening to this particular piece, as opposed to the years earlier where the camera zooms in onto the hourglass slowly. The copyright stayed there until 1984.
Well, a lot of women were still home raising babies then. My mom was. The woman took care of the household, while the man went & financed it. My parents worked together at it.
They were everywhere including sanitary napkins pads and tampons. The douche ones were awful though. It was advertising women smell. Horrible. And now douches are not bought as much as they are bad for women for the most part but they did take away the smell well for a week or so.
This is without question the best quality opening clip from DOOL with this opening
I like this opening theme with the close up on the hourglass and the way the words are spoken seem so soothing.
This soap opera's opening is so sentimental.
It sure is; this was my Grandmother's favorite soap, and she probably saw this episode. I love the theme.

Lol! Yup, same here....It definitely meant naptime was close for my house. Miss those days, life was so simple
For me nap time was when The Young & the Restless came on. Lol

"Be quiet, my program is on!" - my mom
All of this (Zooming the Hourglass, logo) makes me feel like I’m in the Days of our Lives HEAVEN
DAYS OF OUR LIVES ON JEOPARDY!!
A light that indicates when the Power is on, and a light to tell you when Iron is Ready. That's some cutting edge technology right there
That was nothing to when auto-shut off was introduced in the early 80's. No more Helen Keller jokes...
I actually prefer this older opening version to the new one today.
YESSSSSS!!!
Like sands through the hourglass,
so are the days of our lives.
This is McDonald Carey,
and these are the "DAYS OF OUR LIVES".
douche commercials are a dying art
I was thinking that, Thank GOD!!!!!

There's Rose the housekeeper. Jennifer rose Horton was named after Rose the housekeeper.
Thank you for acknowledging that
I remember when Jennifer rose was born.
Got to be the creepiest cello piece I've ever heard.
Hope she found what she was looking for in that book.

RIP Bill Hayes.
"This week, on Days of our Steelers."
Oh my nos ! I prefer the music of today in 2014 that makes it a little freaked out
Passions later today on NBC soap opera Ethan and Theresa get together
What beats me is why they had the year 1972 in the opening credits when this was clearly aired in 1979?
Most likely because that's when days brought the copyright to the music or that theme. Or that's when they were first developed.

No really???
They weren't coy with those douche commercials back in the day, now were they?

@@brookehanley3659 Right? I think modern women would be embarrassed by these commercials nowadays.
Summer's Eve during the pubic wars?!
WTH?? a douche commercial?
