Your soap making videos are the best of all that I have watched! I made soap with lye that I dripped from ashes when I lived in Northern Canada 40 years ago. My soap has always had iffy results (not always solidifying). Didn’t”t know different oils had different saponification values . I just mixed lye and fat of some kind and hoped for the best. I made several batches of soap using your recipe with coconut oil and olive oil for family and colleagues at school this year and got rave reviews and requests for more. Thank you so much . Your videos are great! I built my own two story log house in Canada in 1972 after I graduated from college. I bought 80 acres with tip money from waitressing during college. I felled the trees and peeled them all. Then dragged them to spot I was going to build by hand with one other person and some with my Volkswagen pick-up. Held two together with log dogs and ran a chainsaw between them to flatten the sides so they would fit together better. Used moss I gathered from the forest to insulate between them. I also built a bermed house was from cement block in Washington with just my two small children (5 and 6) . Had the house I live in now built on acreage. Am now starting the 4th homestead and plan on doing most of the work myself. That 5 year old is now 41 and she and I will be building her house and my house with help from some other family members (including her 5 and 7 year old ) .Again thank you for your wonderful uplifting can do videos !
You make it sound so exciting. By next spring I should be ready to set it all up. I feel more and more confident about having backyard chickens each time I watch this channel. Am sure you're helping many people like me. Thanks so much!
I haven't seen a video from you in awhile. You are the reason I got my chickens in the first place and they are doing fantastic. Also you look great happy and healthy it's like seeing a new person.
Yep overlooked the calcium...thought there was enough in her pellets and seeds. We almost lost "Chicklett "last week to being bunged up. She is back to herself thankfully !
Hi Becky, thanks for your videos. I have 9 chickens, 4 of them are silkies and I get 6 or even 7 eggs a day. And its actually still Winter here. Feed them well and they'll repay you❤
Hi Becky! I also recycle egg shells, soak them in apple cider vinegar, then drain and put in low oven until all dried out...crush up and put in with their food--they only love it. Thank you for all you do! Very good info.! :) Dawn @ Rich & Dawn in MN :)
Becky i have to say you look so much better now ... you are in your best shape you are glowing and getting younger you are doing something right congratulations
I have high calcium and high protein grumble and mix it up. I have grit and oyster shell always available. They get whole corn and meal worms ares treats. They get random veggies and yogurt with cottage cheese on warm days . I have a flock block as well they peck at.
I have been watching your videos since you were living in a tent. It has taken us a long time but we finally have our land and are living in a camper while we build. You have been a big inspiration in making that happen. Thank you! I was wondering if you feed any laying pellets to your chickens?
Thanks for all the great info. I can’t have chickens where I live, but I dream of a day when we will be allowed and have my mini coop and at least three or four Buff Orpingtons, which I find so pretty.
Years ago I was down at the hardware store and they had a pallet of wild bird seed that was near the expiration date and they marked it down to 25cents a bag(twenty pound bags) I bought most of the pallet and took it home. I had two dozen production reds and was getting around a dozen eggs a day. I started putting out one bag of wild bird seed in the feeder each day and almost immediately I was getting 23 or 24 eggs a day every day until after I had used up all the wild bird seed.
Hi Becky, I got some chickens a few years ago from a guy that raised them on high protein dog food, these chickens looked like young turkeys, they could hardly walk because of there size, Anyway, these chickens were laying very large eggs, with triple yokes, yep, TRIPLE yokes,
I am very happy to see your videos. I learned a lot from VDOs. Though I do not have many hens but total 6 in nos. Can you pls advise what is the substitute of Oyster shell. I am afraid we do not have 1. Oyster Shell and 2. Diatomaceous Earth. Is there any alternate of 2. Diatomaceous Earth. Thank you very much Regards
Redken has amazing hair toners out called Shades EQ they neutralize oranges reds and give amazing blonde or ashy browns . If you are looking to do that. Going blonde form brunette is tricky.
There is a relatively cheap way to feed animal protein to your laying birds: fishmeal, which comes from fish byproducts (and is shelf stable). It's still not super cheap, it's 2-3 times more expensive than soy (which is what most commercial farms feed chickens), but it's much cheaper than dried worms or human food. You can order it in bulk, because it stores well. There are commercial farms which do use fishmeal instead of soy, as the primary protein source. So it's economically viable. Customers do of course pay a premium for the eggs, because they're "soy free", but not a huge premium.
Hello Becky and to everyone else. I am a home brewer and one thing I discovered a couple of years ago is that you will never, 100% completely wash all of the ferment-able sugars out of your mashing grains (barley or wheat.) With that said, I had about 6 chickens at the time and would get on average, 4 to 6 eggs. When I stopped throwing away my grist (grains after mashing) and feeding it to my chickens I noticed that in the span of about 5 or 6 days they stated laying between 6 and 8 eggs a day. I had started to think if I was skipping days of collecting or maybe the chickens where laying else where then bring the best back to the nest. Once they had ran out of the grist, they would return to laying between 4 and 6 eggs daily as opposed to 6+ (one a few occasion I got 10 eggs in one day!) I was perplexed as to what was going on, hell, even thought my kids where playing a joke on me and replacing eggs back into the nest lol. A good friend of mine who happened to be an avid brewer and chemist told me basically, all of the residual sugars still resident in the grains have already been broken down from their original starch molecules into simple sugars. meaning that since the chickens had less energy to spend on breaking down the starches to sugars and where already receiving the sugars through this form, which resulted in more eggs since they didn't have to work as hard. So if any of your are home brewers and have chickens. Don't through your grist away! Feed it to your chickens or any other live stock you have. They benefit greatly from the residual sugars! Oh and don't malt grains just feed your chickens malted grains. The process is to lengthy and cost wise, you will have probably invested much more into it's resources. I malt my own grains so I know.
I had forgotten to mention that just like Becky said, I do have my chickens on a continuous supply of calcium. I use a combination of oyster shells and my well water. I live in Missouri and if you have well water in MO, you'll know how frustratingly hard in calcium this water is. It is a benefit to my chickens though.
Plz tell me which mic do u use . Bcz your voice is so clear... I have also a TH-cam channel so I also want my voice to be clear plz tell me will w8 for the reply .. Btw your video is awesome

When do you start feeding them oyster shells? My chickens are 12 weeks old and aren't laying yet. Btw, I love your channel!
They need it to digest.
I put oyster shell out when i seen the first egg. Around 16 weeks.
Good tips! I do all of that and most of my girls average about 2 eggs every three days. The younger ones for sure lay every day
Ya, those young ones lay well. The trick is to keep them going☀️❤️☀️
For animal protein can I just give them Dry mealworms, they love those so much, but I was wondering if that would be enough?
My twin I see, okay I think let's add some shells to their meal now
So what if your chickens won’t eat oyster shells or egg shells. Can you just get them pallets with calcium in them? Because ours are just at laying age, and there not eating any of it, so my mom has been buying food with extra calcium. Will that work just fine?
with all, you said about what to feed them do I still have to feed them laying mash 24-7
did you get an answer to this from anyone?
Yeah, i still feed my chickens the laying mash with the other things and i dont really see a problem
do you give your chicken thete own eggs back to eat raw or cooked for a protein. from time to time??
Can I just put oyster shell in their food constantly
This is amazing. Thank you.
feed is awesome but I live in Texas and its hot hot hot. doesnt that halt production? I have 6 Light Brahmas
