In this video, Scott The Piano Guy Houston shows you how to:
    - play a great LH Boogie Woogie pattern
    - play the pattern over the 3 blues chords in G
    - play the chords to follow the blues changes
    - focus on swinging and sounding authentic vs. playing robotically
This left hand (LH) Boogie Woogie pattern is taught in the key of G, so you’ll start on the roots of the the three blues chords: G, C, and D.
Scott stresses the importance of relaxing and taking your time playing as slowly as you need to. For many of you who have only played chords with your LH up to this point, trying to play all these individual notes will be a challenge, but that’s what makes it so good for you!
Take advantage of the format and replay the video as often as you need to. Focus on each note when playing slowly-so that your brain is really “cementing” what your fingers are doing. Soon you’ll be able to pick up the tempo if you want to ...
More than anything, really try to internalize the feel of how Boogie Woogie swings. Playing it “swinging hard” more slowly is (I think …) much more important than trying to frantically, robotically play it faster than you are comfortable with.
Once you learn the patterns, you can start playing them in the right order following the blues progression and sound like a pro!
Scott’s life goal is to help you learn to play piano through piano lessons that you can take anywhere and at any time to get you started having some fun at a piano or keyboard as quickly as possible.
Scott Houston is the host of The Piano Guy television series on Public Television and has taught hundreds of thousands of folks like yourself, how to have some fun on their piano or keyboard. He wants to help you get there too-as quickly as possible.

I first heard this classic boogie-woogie baseline when I was in grammar school in the early 1950’s and a neighborhood teenager, last name Rodriguez, sat down at his piano and played what he said was, “bumble boogie.“ I was overwhelmed! I had never heard a boogie played before. The baseline was haunting. He said he learned to play it by ear, listening to a recording by Freddie Martin. So when I became a teenager and had some money, I found the sheet music for bumble boogie in my local music store. I was not a piano player so the best I could do was work out the left hand from the sheet music, as demonstrated by Scott on this video. So that baseline is indeed on sheet music at least in part. The sheet music is titled “bumble boogie“ recorded by Freddie Martin and his Orchestra with Jack Fina at the piano published in 1946. Still available. BTW thank you Mr Rodriguez wherever you are for that inspiration 65+ years ago!

It is Refreshing to see an Instructor repeat several times the break down of chords and riffs and patterns of such before leaving it up to the viewer to pause and rewind to playback each portion. With IPads and Tablets and such, they can be set on the piano sheet stand that typically comes with pianos and keyboards. This means the student can focus more on the fingering , of each note, as I have just done, then rewind and replay to see it a few times more. The overhead view is quite crucial in setting up learning what keys are used as well as their positions between Black and white. I was able to grasp this beginning of your video much quicker than I had anticipated. Thanks. Well lit, clear audio, slow approach, because many beginners just need Slow. If we want fast, then we must practice.

I wouldn't mind showing this riff to my neice and nephew.. if you could do an video on that.. that would be awesome !!

Does the right hand come in on the upbeat of "2"? In other words, does the RH come in on the "and" of "two"?

    • @pianoinaflash

You can if that it easier for you :-) No hard and and fast "rules" here... Just trying to get it played as easily as possible. :-)

    • @SolidAir54321
      @SolidAir54321 4 ปีที่แล้ว

Agree, 514321 is first choice. It requires no crossing over. 513121 is Ok but second choice. The fingering at the start of the video is just bad AFAIC because it causes you to twist your hand in an awkward way.

  • @rafadowgird3651
