You can utilize this same concept to desalinate or distill water. Shes just showing you the components you need. Something to hold the bad water, something to absorb energy and something to collect the good water.
You can do this with a plastic grocery bag and two different sized containers. Put the smaller container inside the bigger one. Add bad water to the bigger one,put thwm both in the bag, tie it up ans put a rock or coin in middle so the clear water drips into the smaller container. You can also dig a hole in wet sand and put a container in the hole and cover the hole with a tarp or plastic bag. I make pill bottle survival kits and one of the items in it is a sheet of plastic specifically for this purpose.
Bro what does the stone does. I know you mentioned to absorb energy but what is the need of that? What if there's no stone in the bottle?
@@user-qs7yw4yq4h The stone is dark. The sun heats it up. The hot stone makes water evaporate. This is the basic principle of distilling.
What works better? Build a fireplace with clay, with the top of it made into bowl for water, and a spout and lid. The water boils, and steam goes into the spout area, re-condenses into liquid, which you catch in something. The bowl will also now contain salt, which you can use to add to food, since your body also needs a certain amount of sodium to live, which the food may not be providing.
There's a video showing how to do it on TH-cam. It's actually useful because you might not have all these modern tools she used, if you are stranded.

In Boy Scouts I learned a similar technique: Dig a basketball-sized hole, put a couple inches of un-pure water in it. Put an empty cup in the middle, and cover the hole with a sheet of plastic or rubberized cloth. Put a small rock on the sheet directly over where the cup is. The sun warms the dirty water, it evaporates and collects on the plastic sheet, where it runs down into the cup. Drinkable water.
I learned this when I was a kid on a show. It might have been a documentary about survival( I'm not exactly sure,it has been years).

Distilling water with garbage laying around is not that hard. Distilling enough water without purpose built equipment to survive is incredibly difficult.

Another method that works is to dig a pit. In the very center you place bowl type open receptacle that can hold water. You cover the pit with a black trash bag that has been cut open to lay flat. Stake it or weight it down around the edges. Make sure the very center of the plastic is pointing down toward the receptacle - you can put a rock on top of it or something in the middle, something that won't collapse it.
As the sun hits the tarp and heats up the pit, the evaporating moisture from the soil will begin to collect on the tarp and roll downward toward the weighted center point, into the bowl below.

A canonical method, the first one that shall be taught because its description usually includes how it works (like you did) and it's totally crystal clear. Actually, many other methods (including the one in the video) are but variations of it. The Pit-Poncho-Pan method. I believe it is of military origin, and perhaps dated as old as WWII, because it initially mentioned using a poncho, but of course a lot of materials will fit instead of the poncho, just like the plastic trash bag.

This can be done with two bowls, the smaller one inside the bigger, saran wrap over both, elastic to hold it in place, and just drop a small stone on the centre of the smaller bowl in the middle. You're creating condensation leaving it in the sun, but the salt is left behind, so the water that does drip into the small bowl is fresh water.

You're forcing the droplets of water to slide down towards where the rock is, and they drip off as they all run to that one point and collect there.
@@bozoclown2098 You don't need a string. The rock forces the cling wrap into a funnel, because the evaporated water will rise, then stick to the film, and then run down to where the rock is. All those droplets will start to drip, and you have the little bowl under the rock. At the end, all the fresh water will be in the little bowl, and you'll just have the heavy salt that cannot evaporate left in the big bowl.

You are indeed correct bout the desalination , but you forgot that the content shared is about how to survive in the wild, which is abnormal and impractical to have a intact plastic bottle with little to no bacteria spread on it, a lighter, a knife and adhesive tape!
