    The JLB cheetah was our second Hobby Grade RC car. This is the 120a version. You can even buy this as a roller and choose your own electronics.
    Like any RC that is pushed to its limits, it’s going to break, but does this one break too easily? I’ll show you everything I like and don’t like about it, and all the parts that I’ve broken along with what I’m surprised hasn’t been damaged yet. We will bash it for a few minutes to show you its skill set, and then my final thoughts.

    Awesome review! I’ve looked at this car several times through the years and never hit the button on it . I don’t run my cars quite as hard as you, as I’m limited to time and money to make repairs much of the time. Making all these mods to make it better kinda will sway me from buying one of these. I don’t mind wrenching, but I don’t love it either. Usually because when I do, I’m doing it when I should be sleeping for work. Wish I had more time, but it’s just not in the cards. You did a really great job exploiting what to watch out for, and shared what’s to like about this. Great channel and very great and useful review brother!👊🏼💯💯💥

      Dude I get it. It went down hill even more after this video. I bought it after watching extensive reviews on it and only can figure they hid the problems with it in the videos. It literally broke every single time I drove it whether it was easy or hard bashing. I’ve got it sitting in a box with probably $80 worth of spare parts and I’ve been searching for the dark place in my heart to try to post in on eBay for like $100 for all of it. I’m sorry your son got this too as there is much better out there for even cheaper 😥. It performs so well but it’s fragile.

      @JonsRegularStuff man I get it. It was my first decent RC purchase so it almost destroyed mine too. I can recommend a couple cars for you that are around $100-$150 that may reignite that spark that don’t break easily and then go from there. They’re smaller, but still fun. Or if you want recommendations on a bigger car like the cheetah that’s around the same price, let me know. The cheetah sucks and I’m sure it’s done this to more than you and I.

    One awkward landing off a big jump and it breaks easy, I have the latest orange shelled model and mine broke first time out on the rear bulkhead above the diff cover on the rear as it landed on the wheelie bar. Its a power house of a truck though, I still like it and parts are cheap

    • @DerbyCityRC

    I got mine as a Black Friday special at $199.99 from Banggood when Covid 1st broke out about 2yrs(November 2019) ago but the shipping took about 3months because it was coming back ordered from China and customs likes to take their sweet time. BUT I love everything about mine EXCEPT the wing. I hate it because it is the only part that CONSTANTLY breaks off and the mount has to be replaced so now I only have the wing on for shows when I'm doing LIGHT jumps/bashing. Other than that, when I'm ripping hard and jumping high or crazy, I remove the wing so the mount doesn't break and I don't tear up the wing. Ya, parts break here and there , BUT that is expected when you bash as hard as myself and others do. ALL cars break when you heavy bash. it comes with the territory. Thankfully, replacement parts are cheap. I'm gonna take your advise and add the chassis brace from tower to tower and see if that will help reduce the breakages. I don't expect it to be an "everything" fix, but it should help reduce some breakages like the linkages. And thanks for the advise. Bash on, brother!

    • @DerbyCityRC
      @DerbyCityRC  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nice! That’s a reasonable price for the cheetah. I got mine for $389 with one battery. The chassis brace keeps the bulkheads from breaking, and keeps the axles and drive cups(for whatever reason) from breaking. But I still have broken other parts since then. Definitely worth doing that brace!
      Thanks for watching!!!

    Yes buy the red parts and u do fine, I got two of the... It doesn't like the jumping like he does in the vid, but bashing in the sand, mud or forrest it's perfect. Kraton breaks more the cheetah tbh

  • @joe-dp3ng
    @joe-dp3ng ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You do put your rc cars trough some tough punishment. I think you would have less breakage on all of them if you don't jump on concrete. I don't know of any car that can survive your landings on that hard of a surface. It's good to see that anyway so more power to you.

    • @DerbyCityRC
      @DerbyCityRC  ปีที่แล้ว

      Ya I do kinda like concrete landings. Lol but at that house that was the only good way to get a good run up to the ramp so had to stay straight on the sidewalk. We’re getting a new house soon so may have a different setup.

      Your welcome! I have a set of these:

      And a set of these: amzn.to/3DcbKYj
      depending on what size battery I’m using. I cant remember which ones I used for this video.
      I think metal arms would cause other things to break. I definitely wouldn’t go that route unless you were staying out of the air. Those metal braces I built and mounted on the top of the chassis helped more than anything. I have a few different videos showing a couple upgrades I’ve done that help this car immensely!

  • @joe-dp3ng

    It's good that you show the hop ups and reinforcements you have done. I plugged 2 of the 4 holes in all the plastic shock valves and it worked great. You may bend standoffs more but you then can play with oil viscosity. Can you suggest a new basher to me?

    • @DerbyCityRC
      @DerbyCityRC  ปีที่แล้ว

      Nice idea. What did you use to block two holes? One of my favorite RTR bashers would be the rival MT10. amzn.to/3EcJ57D I have a few videos on this thing and hope to eventually do a comparison video between the cheetah and the mt10. Also I have a video coming out in just a few hours with a cheap RC and some cheap upgrades that make it a great basher.

    What would you recommend between this and the big rock, for someone who doesn't have too much time to wrench on it? (you have the kraton so maybe you can extrapolate for the big rock)
    JLB is cheaper to buy but it seems it needs a few upgrades to make it decent, so it puts it into the same money territory sort of as the big rock.

    • @DerbyCityRC
      @DerbyCityRC  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good questions. If you run them and jump them like I do, the Kraton does have more durability for sure. I can’t be sure about the big rock, though. The cheetah has much cheaper parts than the Kraton does. So it’s almost a toss up on which one is better. Overall, Arrma certainly makes higher quality RCs than the Cheetah, so I would probably choose the big rock if it has similar speeds and torque. I’m not sure what motor system they put in that one.

      It’s an absolute animal and so fun to drive. Probably one of the most fun cars I have. I just can’t keep it from breaking. Lol. But I go above and beyond with my jumps sometimes.

      I have one also this car is strong.
      I run my mostly for Speed Racing on the grass and dirt but I never jump.
      There's a guy on here named RC Teng.
      Whenever I have a question about about my Diff, Pinion Gear, ESC ,Servo, Calibrate, I asked him because he have JLB cars.

      Ya I’ve seen his videos.
      I have some videos on JLB diff service and other things too.
      I break a differential almost every time I run that thing. Lol!

    I had this exact model.. i hated that everytime i ran it, something would brake on it, ended up grabing some used traxxas rustler 4x4 and and arrma granite 4x4 and they are way better cars than this jlb junk!

      Ya it’s terrible lol.
      I ran it for a comparison video a couple months ago but besides that it’s been a solid year since I’ve used it. Many other cars are just way better.
