There's two groups of VW owners, the vape kids, and the older dudes like myself (old, AKA, 30 LOL) who aren't obnoxious with the car but realize it's one of the best grocery getting performance oriented economy cars out there.
I just did all this to my mk6!! After waiting I’ll be getting it tommorow. I went complete IE everything also! IE k04 turbo, IE intake manifold with fuel rail, FMIC, kohl (whatever it is) cold air intake, Black Forrest stage 2 engine and tran mounts, spark plugs and the red injector things(it’s slipping my mind their name), stage 2 southbend clutch, short shift kit, full exhaust with resonator/muffler delete and 3” downpipe, new timing chain and metal cover, new main seals, ALL fluids FLUSHED and cleaned out n topped off nice n fresh, diverter valve, and of course the IE tune! 😍 can’t wait till I break In that clutch so I can let her eat 😎
VW has amazing fun cars to mod and easy only thing lot of people think its too hard to work on, but after working on them for year or more you get the hang of it with all the tricks, yes its annoying but once you work on a couple of them you will see certian things that you would thank the Vdub engineers
@@samseiwerth8398 when you live in Texas and it’s 70-80 degrees everyday around this time of the year. As long as the oil has cycled and is above 120 it’s not necessarily bad in that weather. 120 is the average oil temp when your good to go into boost in these lil 4cyl turbos. Unless gtis are their own beast. But that’s what 95% of them go by
i was never a VW guy myself, until one day mk6 gti suprised me, i was in what i thought was a pretty fast car. i started researching and quickly found out how much power they can make and reliable (mk7) . too much wheelspin for GTI if you plan on modding and i knew i would. ive bought mk7 golf r and i totally understand why people love these cars. they are so sleeper and under the radar which i love about it.
Difficult build but once you get it right you'd be stomping out hypercars , I've done two builds with golf R32s cylinder 5 always bugs out because of the layout but , some custom forged conrods, 5 bar map sensor and a big ole turbo .

The exact opposite happened to me this summer. Raced a g35 sedan and won by a car n a half. My jaw dropped when i passed him in a corner and he wasn't able to catch up til the end.
Man, unbelievable on how a vw gti be if it’s done properly , I just took mine to get the water pump replaced (mk6 gti) and they messed up the timing on my car, but huge props Evan, definitely love seen what this car potential can be.

Evan please know that you can use the paddle shifters when you put the car in sport mode and shift with the shift knob. You can use the paddles instead of shifting up and down with your hand on shift knob 😭🖤

I know what you mean by added difficulty working on these, I've had to invest in several new tools I have never needed in my 35 years wrenching to work on my son's MK6 GTI. Still enjoyable and satisfying to work on. Just did fuel injectors and cleaned the intake runners, amazing how dirty they get on these engines, wonder what they look like on your Mk7? Going to post a video on what we did to ours shortly.
Wish I'd have kept and tuned my GTI after the forged internals build but the bank wasn't so thicc after all that & it had to go lol. People definitely be sleeping on DSGs though, they're wicked fun and are sooo much more comfortable/less annoying to daily especially in big cities/traffic.

When you start pushing power to those front wheels, they're going to slip for certain, however when you add in the traction control, and they slip, the ECU basically goes "oh shit, we're spinning," and not only limits the power to the wheels, but makes you spin even more because of the fact that you're throwing added power at the wheels.
My MK6 GTI made about 500whp on a Garrett GTX2867 on stock trans and engine. Lasted 6 years before I traded the car in. It was so much fun. Best part is everything was direct bolt on. MK7’s have so much more power potential. My next German car will be the Audi R8 with a turbo kit from Iroz or a RS3.
So fun fact most people will just go stage two on their GTI DSG transmissions, and it even happens with stage one as well. But the transmission isn’t tuned for the more power so it actually causes break ups and makes the car feel slower. It happened with my mk6 GTI while I was on stage one through integrated engineering, I then got the DSG tune and went stage two and it felt immaculate. Super awesome build Evan I actually work at a Volkswagen dealership and seeing you speak about these cars and understanding them already makes me feel cool. Keep doing you.
@@joeoppman1942 I went with Performance by IE honestly great company and has really good support. I would highly recommend them to anyone with VW. The car just feels right and it doesn't feel like you get instant boost its a gradual incline to max boost
I had a friend that owned a Passat wagon four motion with a 1.8t and with a turbo upgrade and injectors it was a monster I’m not a vw guy but I respect how factory built they are to take the abuse it gets from bolt on parts
2006 Mk5 GTI owner. 2.0t BPY. Bought it completely stock with 190,000 miles. Redid timing belt, cam chain and tensioner and the cam follower. K03 got taken out, better bearings, and a hybrid blade set got put in. Audi side mount intercooler upgrade, s3 injectors, hpfp, lpfp, CAI, PCV delete, red tops and double iridiums. I’ve pushed the k03 platform to its limit on pump gas. Only thing I could add is meth injection or e85 at this point. She’s a ripper!! Way better power than a stock k03. Power of k03 but the band of a k04 that doesn’t fall off above 5,000 rpms. It’s a fun $3,000 buy and build budget car. Literally cannot get a better bang for your buck.

nice car reminds me of my cousins mk7 he managed to get 515bhp and 486lb ft of torque from his. it was known as the fastest vw in scotland 0-60 3.04 second 1/4 mile in around 10 seconds
i’m sure you know this but you can shift with the paddles behind the steering wheel instead of the shifter. when you put it in manual mode the left paddle is downshift and the right paddle is upshift
Vw need the respect they deserve there not bad cars and they make easy power I'm at the same setup but with a little more stuff then what you have and I've been some mustangs 5.0s but I'm waiting for my big turbo to come in hoping to make 500whp

My step son has a golf tsi...it's pretty quick for being the slower of the golf turbos. It doesn't have great suspension stock, the back end like to walk out in an off throttle curve. So I really want to win this one lol, they are very comfortable for long trips with a halfway decent stereo.
I hate on gtis. Only because they are so much better than my bb wrx I will never ever buy one for no good reason at all I’m just a jdm fan boy and can’t take that a vw is better than my shot box haha

People underestimate these cars Easy 400-500+whp with just turbo, fueling & supporting mods. I’ve had a 08 gti & 2016 Will always be one of my favorite cars especially for the price they are & what they’re capable of
i have a FBO on my MK7.5 Golf R and it’s lowered and has sticky tires and it takes GT500’s and i beat a tuned BMW M5 by about a car i highly suggest u do an FBO on a golf R and i guarantee u will fall in love

Looking good. I drive a 4 speed manual 88 VW Transporter with 90 hp and stock 2020 GTI Autobahn 6spd MT. Both my grocery getters. I'm not going to modify anything on my GTI because it feels way faster already after driving my Transporter haha

Evan the car is not ready to be ripped on until oil temps are at 180 F. Usually takes like 10 mins after the engine is up to temp
Yes! that was the first thing I noticed. he was reading coolant temp which gets up to temp much more quickly.

Turn off traction control and it changes a lot. It’s cutting power when it spins. Opens the electronic wastegate and lets boost out

You can take it up to 550 whp, to be safe, 500 whp on stock internals. Edit: As long as you have catted downpipe, you won't get cel.
1 problem with 2.0t and high hp is the connecting rods busting

I got the IS38 on my GTI performance and I absolutely hate the wheelspin when taking off. I can see why people go for the R instead.
Use VCDS to long code ESC OFF into your traction control. Once you do that, anytime you wanna floor it, turn the traction control off, you won't spin.

I had a 96 automatic. All I wanted was a place setter exhaust. Some blistien coilovers. With a port job. Would of been fire. VW's are fun.

i have a FBO on my MK7.5 Golf R and it’s lowered and has sticky tires and it takes GT500’s and i beat a tuned BMW M5 by about a car i highly suggest u do an FBO on a golf R and i guarantee u will fall in love
