    I started WoW 2 weeks after BC launched. My brother was just going through the portal whilst I was in thousand needles. Every so often he would come to me to show off his awesome looking items and regale me of floating island in a beautiful meadow or spiky mountains with dragons impaled on them , giant mushrooms in a swamp or a massive robot that walked around stomping on people. I was so fucking jealous it fueled me to catch up . Felt like months later I was in a 10 man split raid in Kara racing to win and learning Gruul council positioning, swimming down a long tunnel for my first SSC run , being a rogue in MH and fucking hating all those with AOE... just a great fun time with nothing handed to you .

      @@Magerquark Yeah, the 60-70 bracket doesn't really lend itself to boosting. Maybe some mages will be pushing people through Slave Pens in low 60s, but A) you still need rep from all the factions, B) heroics are a thing, and C) despite the epic mount cost, gold isn't as important in TBC. You need less gold overall compared to the supply. So it will not be as attractive to make gold from selling runs.

    I disagree with asmon about run selling. I wanted to do the thrash blade quest which means I'd have to kill princess in maradon. No matter how hard I tried, nobody wanted to run the dungeon normally because the level 60 mage aoe farm kite runs were all anyone cared about. It got so bad that I offered 100 gold to anyone who would be in the group to help finish the dungeon, but nobody took the offer. I've been babyraging at boosters ever since. so i am the type to boost my character thru carries but i do agree with the fact that it encourages gold buying. personal experience: on my server (bigglesworth) 9/10 carries i get are also gold sellers. they barely speak english and sell the gold they make on the internet. they all know eachother no matter how much times its been in the expansion or what alt im on its the same people doing the carries with no end in sight because they admit they arent spending it on in game things they are simply making real money through a job.

  • @malkavian6275
    @malkavian6275 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Selling runs does have a negative impact on both other players and the game itself. It literally, in practice, actively reduces the amount of players trying to form groups on their own or even going out in the world to quest, because why do that if you can just wait in a capital city for someone you can pay for a boost? So it kills the joy and interesting dynamics of forming groups and finishing dungeons by your own efforts. The trade-off is not worth it. Yes it's efficient but it kills the heart of the game which is leveling, interacting with other players and going out to an adventure in the world. I have never once gone out of a paid boosting session and felt "wow that was fun" or a feeling of accomplishment and reward.
    It always sucks, and it will always suck the joy out of the leveling experience. (It also creates unnecessary class imbalance as it gives too much power to mages, but I digress.) I think it should be banned or at least be properly restricted, for example have it so that you can only be paying for a boost once a week(I haven't given too much thought about a perfect solution, but it's absolutely not a hard problem to solve). It's fine to be boosted or to boost someone every once in a while. But the whole playerbase should not be able to abuse it as much as it has been in classic, since the whole experience is designed to be more than just the end game - that's one of the main reasons we want to play classic expansions.
    Also ban botting obviously.

    What amuses me around this part is that alot of the chat seems to think farming up 10k gold before TBC release is ridiculous and/or too hard.
    We already know with high certainty that TBC will launch sometime in summer, with datamining hinting at prepatch coming in mid-late May. That realistically gives us around 2 months before TBC launch, probably even longer. That's minimum 2 months of farming enough gold to buy both base flying and epic flying - which together cost around 6k gold - before the expansion even comes out.
    So frankly: Those people that are OmegaLuling and raging at Asmon's comment - they probably don't realize how much gold they could earn in 2 months if they were determined to earn it.

    gold for runs is literally paying gold to skip content, its fundementally different from buying boe's etc.
    not to mention once an economy runs amok like it has on classic, getting the amount of gold it takes, almost completely incentivize rmt.
    Buying a run for an alt for quests etc. - completely okay and normal.
    Buying complete runs to max lvl - insane gold cost, incentivizes rmt.
    recognizing the fact that the economy, botting etc. is a huge problem on classic. And then disregarding the fact that a lot of gold paying services in game are being used, but has no correlation, makes zero sense.

    He knows selling runs is bad for the game, of course it is.
    he just wants to do it so he can level up alts quickly.
    The real truth, is any idiot would know it's bad for the game. It's irrelevant weather it's a player
    choice or not within the game, or out of it. If someone can get 100 gold instead of 1 silver for a kill they will.
    But since the game wasn't designed around that % things go by too quickly, suddenly
    every vendor you used to buy things from now is worthless.
    Power leveling enables the Chinese farmers to bot it up even quicker.
    you're going to see allot, and I mean allot of them more than in vanilla.
    power leveling through a dungeon has become random dungeon finder for classic.
    It's abbused in this way and worse. The degredation of the questing aspect of the game is potent.
    "Those who choose to quest will do so still" No, no they won't. because they don't want to be left behind.
    So Most people who wanted to level slow, who wanted to level through the game will now take the fast
    route so they aren't left behind.
    I think asmongold is cool, but on this he is very VERY wrong. he's also happy with the boost to 58 as well, pleased about it .
    Also says there is nothing wrong with it. It's clear he just wants to be able to get quick levels for the sake of content, and getting it done quiclkly.
    It is not good for the game in any way, and therefor it can and WILL only do harm.

      You have *at least* 2 months of playtime before TBC launches, which is plenty of time to get at least 6k gold for the base and epic flying mounts. This is literally what I've been doing since February when TBC was announced; I made a priest that I leveled to 60, and ever since it capped I've just been farming 2-3 hours per day on that character. I average about 50g/hour, which isn't an amazing amount by any stretch, but I've just reached 1000 gold and at my current pace I will reach 6k well before launch, will maybe even get to 7k.

  • @VideoGamesRus100
    @VideoGamesRus100 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    The problem with selling runs is when the Xpac is halfway through, and I want to do dungeons etc. on an alt, but there's only 2 other people willing to run because everyone is getting boosted. Not only this, but the player base hits cap level, and gets geared way faster, resulting in not only more time gaps where there's low player population, but bots getting to cap faster, and building alt accounts faster (for when their main account gets banned).
    If boosting should be allowed, buying gold should be allowed.

    Asmon tends to disregard certain problems in order to justify his behaviour. Selling runs is bad for some players, namely the ones trying to find a group for a dungeon while leveling. The people that are looking for boosts won't look for a proper group to do the dungeon. It's obviously harmful, doesn't matter if it's emergent player behaviour or not.

  • @thanganbabp5570

    my issues with selling runs dont actually have to do with goldselling. zones and dungeons became barren. you could barely play the game unless you bought a run, and even then thats paying someone to play the game for you while you don't play.

  • @barbsfpv3066
    @barbsfpv3066 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Selling runs encourages people to never learn their class. I could always tell in BC when somebody got boosted or bought their account, because they sucked ass at the game. One even bought an account with a full-T5 warrior, and couldn’t even tank Karazhan.

    Blizz should just make it so. ALL players have to create a class (lev 59 or 60) and you cant transfer Gold or items from Classic to TBC Classic.
    Then people will be forced to play TBC Classic, levling- dungeons ect. All this “ehhhh you need atleast 20.000 k gold when it starts”, just ruins the experience of TBC. TBC was also for casuel player NOT only for low life players with No life outside the game.
    Its just too bad that TBC Classic will die as fast as Classic did because of theise people with 50.000 k Gold and the best gear in the game and then they cry about “ ehhhh there is nothing to do in this game”.

    I really want to watch Asmon stream TBC leveling but I have to wonder if he's setting himself up for failure considering the constraints Outland provides. Unless he immediately starts to dungeon grind (which is pretty boring content after a while) I have to wonder what kind of nightmare Hellfire and even Zangarmarsh will be for him when streaming. I can already imagine how impossible things such as the Ring of Blood will be unless he has half the server backing him up.

    Yes, selling dungeon runs to power-boost is emergent behavior. But it's behavior that many games intentionally prevent because it trivializes the content of the game. And that matters. I'm not blaming the players for playing the game the way it's given to them. But Blizzard should prevent power-boosting for the same reasons many games prevent power-boosting. This is not a novel concept.

    Instead of wotlk classic in the future, I'd love to see them release the game engine for us to do whatever with, exactly like what they did with the WC3 engine. How fking cool wouldn't it be to create battlegrounds or dungeons that you could release to a community site and host on blizz servers to play with people. Or do your own class balancing or mix up class abilities and shit.
