AJ…I am 65 years old…I have been going to Disneyland for 61 years ( I even worked there). There are too many things I love about it, but the main thing I love is that Walt ac walked around in the park…daily. He would grab a bite on Main Street, then go smoke his cigar at the Golden Horseshoe. He would then walk around Frontierland, Adventureland, Tomorrowland and end up in Fantasyland, his favorite. He would sometimes even go on the attractions. I have met and spoke with Marty Sklar, one of the Disney geniuses. He is a great guy. Yes, sadly, he and Walt are in Heaven, but their Magic lives on. Thank you so much AJ! FYI…San Fransokyo is a goofy name!
That’s wonderful you’ve had so many years of memories in Disneyland! I’ve only visited once in 1986 when my husband was stationed in Long Beach. Doubt I’ll ever get back but I would love to!
Oddly enough, Elaine, I have only been to WDW twice. Once, in 1980, with friends, then in 1988, for my honeymoon with my wife, which was my last time there.
Manny, I am a long time Disneyland AP holder & fan, too. Probably passed by you many times in the Park. 😁 I'd say, it's time for you to visit WDW again. More Disney is always good. 😊
I find that being the one theme park Walt had a hand in creating is the most subtly great exclusive thing. Keeping that in mind gives the park a very classic, nostalgic vibe compared to the other parks.
World was Walt’s biggest dream, that he worked on for almost a decade before his death. What do you think implies “had a hand in” he created that park just as he did land. 👌🏻
Definitely a treat for anyone who was lucky enough to experience that for sure! I imagine it would've been a laugh a minute with Robin Williams as your JC Skipper! Not only that, but imagine getting to witness the zany antics of Steve Martin in the Magic Shop, having a gut-busting good time with Skipper Robin on the Jungle Cruise, and then taking a minute to relax while listening to the stylings of Richard Carpenter on the Main Street piano! (Assuming they were all working at Disneyland around the same time - though maybe not as after looking it up, if Williams were still around today, he would be 72 meanwhile Steve Martin is 78 and Richard Carpenter is 77 so it's more likely Steve and Richard could've been working at Disneyland at the same time as they're only a year apart in age.) Of course, all three men were working there long before they became big stars, so it's likely park guests at the time wouldn't have been starstruck - although I can only imagine the surprise of seeing the young kid who was working behind the counter at the Disneyland Magic Shop being a host on SNL, or the kid who noodled around on the Main Street piano making up half of a popular band with his kid sister, or the funny kid who was your Jungle Cruise Skipper during that one family vacation now being a famous stand-up comedian and being the star of his own TV show yelling "Nanu-Nanu!" every night!
Thank you so much for a video focused on my favorite Disney resort. Single riders at Radiator Springs Racers is the way to go. It's amazing how many times my kids and I have been in competing cars for the race at the end. And one thing you really didn't touch on, is that you can WALK from your hotel, through Downtown Disney, and to either park. There's no need for a bus, boat, gondola, or even a monorail, although the monorail ride from the west side of Downtown Disney to Tomorrowland is sweet. Oh and the Matterhorn will always be my #1 Disney ride. I did it with my dad in 1975 and many times with my wife kids since 2000.
I've only been to Disneyland and California Adventure once and I really enjoyed it. I had assumed the "repeat" rides were the same thing at Disneyland and Disney World, I discovered that was not the case. So, I did ALL the rides and having rides that are unique to Disneyland was the icing on the cake! I'd love to visit these parks again!
The Materhorn Bobsleds, The Alice In Wonderland Dark Ride and Snow White's Enchanted Wish are what I'm looking forward to doing when we visit Disneyland!
I've been to California, just once in my 68 years, and that was to San Francisco, and Monterey. I was born in Oct. of 1955, the same year that Disney Land was born! I always wanted to go to Disney Land, but living in NJ, we were thrilled when WDW opened!! I have been there 4 times, even in 1972. It is amazing!! But I still would love to go to the OG!!
As a Magic Key holder and CA resident, I have been to Disneyland more times than I care to admit. However, hearing AJ gush about the best park in the world just makes me 😊, even though I just left the park.
Snow White's "I'm Wishing" Wishing Well. Ever since I can remember, Snow White's voice would start to come out of the Well when you dropped a coin in it. The Animatronics at the Original Tiki Hut is my upmost favorite in the world for it is original to what Disney open up with on "World Of Color" program.
Disneyland will always be my favorite. I grew up going there all the time so yeah no other park can recreate the charm. If the Disney Parks all over the world are a gold crown, then Disneyland is the most precious crown jewel that by itself elevates the whole thing. But hey I’m also biased haha.
Hi guys! amazing video! my favorite disneyland detail is probably the bakery in san fransokyo square! (the Sourbread mac n cheese is so good!) two things though where you may have to review your information regarding things being unique to disneyland... The diorama with dinosaurs and a walkthrough for Sleeping Beauty Castle are in Paris as well the difference though is that they also have a dragon in Paris.
One of my Disneyland Core Memories was riding Mr. Toad's with my (then) Tween daughter. It was at night, in February. She wears glasses... Can you "see" where this is going? Yeah... we left "the bad place" and she says to me, "Mom. I can't see." I looked at her & her glasses were completely fogged up. We were laughing so much.
No one talks about Pixie Hallow and the wonderfully themed path that use to have its own water show after dark. It’s one of my favorite places in the park. And also, right across the way is the wishing well with magical features and wonderful photo opps. These places are Disney at its best.
Every time I leave Disneyland Park I make sure to blow a kiss at Walt's apartment and say "Thanks, Walt!" And every time I see the concept art for the Avengers ride I squeal when I see Daredevil!
I absolutely love Disneyland. 1st time was april of this year, in 2023. Stayed there for a week. Fell in love with DL just as much almost as Disneyworld! Absolutely going again. Absolutely loved the CARS dark ride! Also, I loved the different signature restaurants ( i did all of the major ones).
I go to Disneyland pretty frequently and love seeing it dressed up for Christmas. I went to WDW last year in November and was so disappointed to find out their Haunted Mansion doesn't get the special Christmas overlay! It felt so weird :(
DL is visited more by locals than MK so they decorate HM as to get locals to visit the park during the holiday season as to MK visitors are more “first timers/once in lifetime” so they prefer the original overlay. According the logic of some experts :/
Honestly I think that's fantastic! I'm not a fan of the Nightmare Before Christmas overlay (that movie is so overhyped it's embarrassing at this point), but what I REALLY hate about it is how long it's up for! It doesn't need to go up on the first of September and stay up through early January - although I swear prior to the pandemic, it seemed like every year it'd go up earlier and earlier and was staying up longer and longer! The only nice thing I'll say about it is that it's nice that we get a little bit of Phantom Manor love in the outdoor queue via the music box music HMH plays over the speakers and that's it. I would not be hurt at all if Disney announced that they would shorten the length of time HMH was up - preferably Oct 1st to Jan 1st, but I'd be a lot happier if they got rid of it altogether! I guess if they still wanted to do some holiday overlay, I'd rather them do something original - like why not do something that ties in with Phantom Manor if you're going to use the music box music in the queue? But I'd be just as happy with nothing at all!
I've been to DL 3 times. Twice because I had a wedding in CA and once to cheer my son on in a race. I love that it is Walt's park. I didn't like how narrow the walkways are and how fast it get's crowded. I would definitely go back if I were in CA again. WDW still has my heart.
My introduction was World, but when I finally made it to Land, I feel so hard in love--my favorite's (Toad, Submarines (but 20,000 Leagues better than Nemo) and new favorites--Indi & Car Land.
Only been once, but what struck me (about Disneyland Park) was that when you first entered, it was very much like Magic Kingdom, but the farther you went into the park, the more different it became. This was actually kind of creepy.... but of course this could only be blamed on Magic Kingdom as Disneyland was built first.
Wow, I never realized how many unique treasures Disneyland has to offer until watching this video! 🏰 From exclusive rides and attractions to hidden secrets waiting to be discovered, it's clear that Disneyland truly has its own magical charm.
Only ever been to DLR and love ALL the things you mentioned, plus more. However, planning a trip to WDW & looking forward to all the new to me things, but esp the things I remember that are now only out East - like Carousel of Progress, Muppet show, og Treehouse, Country Bear & Tough to be a Bug. Very old hat stuff to WDW folks, but I’ll be in nostalgia heaven! Here’s hoping I make it before any of those are taken away… BTW, gotta recommend the Walt tour! We splurged last year & loved it. Though expensive, and we knew most of the Main Street info, (tho a few tidbits about Walt were new & fascinating) at the end we got to see Walt’s apartment & have a photo inside, then hung out for a bit on the outdoor patio. It was a truly incredible experience.
It’s too bad country bear & carousel of progress don’t live in Disneyland! I think they belong there! Hope you enjoy your WDW trip before things change 😢
I was a lifelong Disney World goer and went to Disneyland for the first time last year. I was surprised how small everything was! The queues are quite tight, the turnstiles very narrow, and it felt like seats throughout the park were significantly smaller. There was also some sort of issue with the septic system near Haunted Mansion and that whole area smelt like open sewage, yuck! Pirates of the Caribbean completely blew my mind, though, it was an absolute joy to get to see in person. Next time I have to make time to see DCA, too
I totally agree with you. I moved from the East coast to the West. I still flew to Florida from California. I remember before the pandemic in Disneyland, we watched the Fantasmic on the lawn, literally shoulder to shoulder, knee to knee. I mean my knees could touch the back of the person in front of me. But I like them both, and I already booked my flight and ticket to Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo Disney Sea!
Part of the reason Disneyland Park feels so narrow is because it was designed and built before ADA accessibility laws so many of the lines especially the OG dark rides are teeny. I love the density of the west coast parks so much more than the spread out east coast
I heard the Car ride is the same as test track. Is it true? Also, Disneyland has the Indiana Jones ride, which is different from the Indiana Jones stunt show in Hollywood Studio/WDW.
Choco smash bar at pym's test kitchen is now a choco smash cake. Not as fun but it has all the same ingredients and maybe a smaller portion (not 100% sure on portion size though)
I’m so excited for my very first trip to Disneyland after being a WDW girl for my entire life! I can’t choose one thing I’m most excited about - Mr. Toad, Snow White, Pinnochio, Alice in wonderland, Sleeping beauty walkthrough, the Dino-Rama on the train, toontown, the Matterhorn, an extended pirates, sitting beside someone on space mountain?!, Indiana Jones, cars land, churros! (And now churro toffee!!) or just simply being where the magic was started and Walt himself spent time! 55 days and counting! 😁😁😁😁
We just got back from DL and arrrgh! I wish we would have watched this video before going, as we missed some stuff! We never did the Sleeping Beauty walkthrough, or the Dino-Rama, or the churro toffee. But at least we did the rest of what you mentioned. As for Space Mountain, let's just say getting to sit beside someone isn't all that is unique to it. You also get built in speakers playing a unique score composed specifically for that ride by Michael Giachinno himself and it is awesome! Made it one of my favorite rides from both parks; try not to miss space mountain in DL!
For the “things you can only get at Disney world” video they included all four parks and all the hotels so it only makes sense that they would include the whole Disneyland resort area for this video
I'm super stoked to visit here for the first time (I've been to DW but not DL)! I don't know if both parks have the same character interactions (my goal? Dr. Facilier), but from what I've seen, they do have different characters - Facilier being one of the DL meet and greets. I think in DW, you could see him at the Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party, but I could very well be wrong since I struggle navigating everything - including the official sites...
I love going over to Avenger's Campus and seeing how many Avengers I can find. We walk past it several times a day because different characters come out.
I went last year for Christmas and this year I'm going again. I had Tiana's Palace and it was the best Gumbo I've had I'm my life and I cannot wait for another bowl this year
On our first trip, I was obsessed with seeking out the petrified tree. So much so that I didn’t get to ride the Mark Twain, Columbia or the railroad. 🤦🏻♀️

Being able to pre pay for food at the festivals is honestly a lifesaver, Disney world need to do this too!
It's great to see my HOME park represented, love this!
Oh my gosh, can you imagine having Robin Williams as your Jungle Cruise Skipper?

I would have paid good money to hear Robin Williams as a Jungle Cruise skipper back in the day! I'm sure that was a treat!
The adventure suites are so amazing! They need them in more Disney parks it’s so fun for kids! (And adults)
My (and my daughter's) favorite part of Disneyland is the Toontown area....my daughter was bummed when they got rid of it in Magic Kingdom.
Thank you so much for a video focused on my favorite Disney resort.
