Yup agreed. Nothing will ever change my mind that Great Movie Ride was one of the most goated attractions ever imo, and Runaway is mediocre at best for me.
Disney was licensing those movies and characters from other studios for the Great Movie Ride and I believe the license expired. That's part of why they changed it. They could have potentially updated it with other movies but that would have involved a new licensing deal. Easier to switch it to a Disney property like Mickey Mouse.
And the fact that there was no fire escape freaked me out! They really expected guests to hide in a “fireproof” closet until help arrived. Yeah no thanks
Ugh. That sounds claustrophobic and downright dangerous. And for $4000+ for TWO freaking nights?! I can spend a lot less at a 4-star place and stay longer and have a lot more genuine fun. =/
the star cruiser was a multi-thousand dollar LARPing experience. it seems like an absolute dream for gigantic star wars nerds who WANT to LARP on disney property, but that is (shockingly) a relatively small and specific group of people. i always thought it was weird, though, that disney would go for something that requires such high commitment from its guests and caters to such a niche demographic, when a highly themed immersive star wars hotel WITHOUT the roleplay elements, necessity to stay inside the resort for your whole vacation, stay time limits, and absurd price, would have been disgustingly successful. like, why did they go for a harder-to-market project that requires so much more effort from the cast and puts restrictions on guests, when a _regular_ resort highly themed to star wars would have been a smash hit?
I found you two years ago on a lonely maternity leave and have watched nearly every video since then. You clearly put so much thought, care and dedication into every post. I haven’t been to Disney since I was 8 but thank you for being there with joyful content. ☺️💛
Argh, that drives me crazy. If your kid can't handle intense stuff, don'r let him or her go on an intense ride or attraction. It's like people who take a dog to a fireworks show and then complain that the noise scared their poor widdle puppy and they want the fireworks stopped. 🙄
The Star Cruiser hotel didn't close down because of the price point, it closed down because the experience SUCKED!!! The 'light sabers' were basically flashlights you pointed at the wall, you had to pay extra for premium meals, and the door to your hotel room would open automatically at predetermined times so you can participate in pre-scripted events, even if you JUST got out of the shower and were naked!
They should make the star wars resort for everyone can stay there with reasonable prices. Some money is better than no money. 200-400 a night is a good price point.
In 2021 I spent 7 nights at a 3-to-4-star resort in PA. The _entire trip_ (including the hotel) cost a lot less than $4000 and I still had tons of fun and have lots of memories. It wasn't Disney, sure; but I also didn't have to wait in line for two hours for a 5-minute ride, or pay $30 for a hamburger. I don't have the kind of money for a ridiculous vacay like the one described. 😬
I was at Docking Bay 7 on the 1st and absolutely bought a Space Spork with my meal! So they're not gone, though I don't know when they came back again or if they'll stick around.
Pleasure Island was my fav on my first WDW visit and I spent EVERY NIGHT at the Adventurers Club and still have my AC canteen. Also New Years Eve every night!
I've started playing "Spot the DisneyBounder" with the people in the background. I spotted a Lilo, and a Minnie! Besides the folks dressed up for Halloween, what else did I miss?
@@NooniesHome I don't think any more that it did, but the portholes all looked out into water that showed lots of fish, ruins, and a mermaid, so it may have passed between tanks of water once it entered the building it came in and out of.

Congratulations on fifteen years of DFB! You are one of my very favorite TH-cam channels! A couple of comments: (1) i am so glad i bought my spork ($10) at Docking Bay 7, because i had no idea this option would end! (2) I used to love help-yourself toppings bars too, but after a couple of very bad experiences with sickness, i am now glad they are gone. You can’t trust people not to cough on or otherwise contaminate food. Being able to eat all the guacamole i want, though - that i miss. I have never had plastic cheese, but maybe I’ve got to try it now!
In 2019, my son did the Pirates Adventure game. He loved it. This past spring, we did an escape room that was pirates themed and it reminded me a lot of the Disney pirate game. I wonder how some Disney themed Escape Room games would go over at Disney World or Disneyland. Could do Pirates of the Caribbean, Peter Pan, Toy Story, Sorcerers Apprentice, etc?
I love your channel. This is the second vacation to Disney that I have planned using your helpful information. I have twenty six more days till my amazing 9 day trip I have planned with your help. This time I remembered to plan a non-park day, thanks to your advice. Thank you again for all you do to keep us informed about the happiest place on Earth.
Also, last time I went to Disney I wasn't able to try the Pulled Pork Fries at Flame Tree BBQ like you suggest, and I had heard they didn't have them anymore. I just checked their menu and they are listed again. Oh how I do hope I get to try them this time.
Pleasure Island was awesome. New Year's fireworks EVERY night. Adventures Club was fun. Definitely think Alien Encounter/Stitch Escape should return. People have to realize that not EVERYTHING in WDW is for kids. It's like the people that get upset when they voluntarily bring their young kids to an R rated movie. Use some discretion people.
I think the problem with Stitch's Great Escape was that Stitch is a beloved character from a children's movie, so the ride did seem marketed towards children.
I started watching this channel when i was in 9th grade (im 21 next month) and these videos made my trip to Disney so much more enjoyable. Thank you for all the tips ❤️
We can't have anything good.... Japanese children: totally fine to go on miles long journeys alone American children: drown themselves to hear an animated character talk underwater
I'll add a couple more 1) Free line skip passes - because money is king, and making people who already dropped a ton on vacation feel like second class citizen and have a horrible experience in the park is apparently one of Disney's prime directives, after all it's just a LITTLE bit more. 2) Delicious pastries on Main Street - see 1, plus too many coffee snobs (irony incoming) out there who have to have Starbucks. Now walking into the park at 8am and using a single snack credit on a cinnamon roll the size of a camping pillow that will give you the jitters for the next hour is just a tale of the past.
I was one of the earliest people to stay at the themed hotels and it was actually the Ariel pool that sang. When you were under the water you would hear songs from The Little Mermaid, mostly 'Under the Sea'
I'm surprised there was no mention of the EXTREME downsizing of the 4th of July decorations and especially the very minimal and shortened fireworks display.
O:39. The Dapper Dan in blue, second from the left, is named Myron Whittlesey. He sings bass in the 2017 Barbershop Harmony Society International championship quartet for 2017, Main Street. The other Main Street members also sing or have sung as Dapper Dans at WDW. Main Street is most famous for their pop song medley, and for tap dancing while they sing.
The music at the Nemo pool!!!! I remember it back in July 2012!!! I stayed there right after it opened. I remember hearing down under by men at work playing for some reason.
If you missed ExtraTerrorEstrial, don't fret: you can still ride its awesome clone in Staffordshire, England. Nemesis Sub-Terra is essentially a five-minute version of Alien Encounter where the floor "collapses" and the seats drop eleven feet straight down into an alien hatchery, where a bunch of eggs hatch and splash you with water. Then everything goes dark and it turns into a more conventional version of the classic Disney ride. Following that, you go through a miniature haunted house full of scare actors. It's easily the most terrifying ride at the entire park, but if you're not an Alien Encounter fan, you can still ride all the world-record-breaking coasters nearby.
Love Sorcerers’ of the Magic Kingdom. Just found an original binder for my cards at one of those cheap souvenir stores on my last trip. Wish they would bring it back!
@dfbguide I think you missed an opportunity to call out Disney Quest. 🥰 I fondly remember being able to play and design my own roller coaster and experience early virtual reality kind of engagements . I think it is one of the things they shouldn’t have killed and maybe someday we’ll get lucky and get something like that back….. ❤
I rode the "ExtraTERRORestrial" the year it opened. I was 16. My family didn't want to ride it with me so I rode it alone. I came out of the ride and wouldn't talk for over an hour. I was ghost white. And, the only reason I made it through was the very nice lady who held my hald during the ride. I am 43 and still don't like the building.
as a food service worker, plastic cheese from a pump is both too much of a hassle and horribly messy, and WAY too easy to burn yourself on both the machine itself and the cheese. totally get why plastic cheese was taken away from us, even if its sad.
I went on Extraterrorestrial Alien Encounter when I was six years old, had no idea what was going on and why people were screaming, when the alien 'breathed' on me I just wiped my arm unaware of what was happening 😂😂

the star cruiser was a multi-thousand dollar LARPing experience. it seems like an absolute dream for gigantic star wars nerds who WANT to LARP on disney property, but that is (shockingly) a relatively small and specific group of people. i always thought it was weird, though, that disney would go for something that requires such high commitment from its guests and caters to such a niche demographic, when a highly themed immersive star wars hotel WITHOUT the roleplay elements, necessity to stay inside the resort for your whole vacation, stay time limits, and absurd price, would have been disgustingly successful. like, why did they go for a harder-to-market project that requires so much more effort from the cast and puts restrictions on guests, when a _regular_ resort highly themed to star wars would have been a smash hit?
I found you two years ago on a lonely maternity leave and have watched nearly every video since then. You clearly put so much thought, care and dedication into every post. I haven’t been to Disney since I was 8 but thank you for being there with joyful content. ☺️💛
Thanks for hanging out with us!
Instead of shutting down Alien Encounter, if your child/mutant is a frightened little baby then don't take it on THE RIDE!!
Argh, that drives me crazy. If your kid can't handle intense stuff, don'r let him or her go on an intense ride or attraction. It's like people who take a dog to a fireworks show and then complain that the noise scared their poor widdle puppy and they want the fireworks stopped. 🙄
Writer's Stop is one of our sore spots too. Fewer and fewer of those types of niche "hidden" goodies in the parks these days.
Congratulations on 15 years!! 🎉❤
the star cruiser was cool, but ridiculous. our trip ALONE costed 4000 dollars. spending that to stay in a hotel is crazy!
*cost
But you're not spending that to stay in a hotel. You clearly still have no idea what the Starcruiser even was.
That’s so awesome!
I've started playing "Spot the DisneyBounder" with the people in the background. I spotted a Lilo, and a Minnie! Besides the folks dressed up for Halloween, what else did I miss?
Ha! That’s a fun game!!
Congratulations on 15 years
Have you done one about the older rides that are gone? I remember the submarines so well. I really believed the subs went under water.
We have!!
I watched a video that said it didn't go under water but the bubbles were sprayed at an angle to create the illusion
@@NooniesHome I don't think any more that it did, but the portholes all looked out into water that showed lots of fish, ruins, and a mermaid, so it may have passed between tanks of water once it entered the building it came in and out of.
Congratulations on your milestones! Thank you for all the information! On my last trip, it was almost 20 years since I had gone to a park. Your tips and tricks were LIFE savers, and the food reviews and advice made decisions on meals easier. Thank you!
Congratulations on your 15 years ofDFG and Hope you enjoy all your celebrations to you and your team
I miss the kiss goodnight at MK! Such a great way to end the day
14:33 I think the free trading cart game was the base for what is now called Lorcana. It looks and sounds similar.
Thanks for being here!!
Use some discretion people.
how many people do you think purposefully brought their kids in there so they could kick up a stink about it for compensation?
I think the problem with Stitch's Great Escape was that Stitch is a beloved character from a children's movie, so the ride did seem marketed towards children.
@@Cacjams But it was Alien Encounter before it was Stitch. They toned it down a ton to make it Stitch, so they did that part to themselves.
We were just at Docking Bay 7 this week and the sporks are available for $10. Just checked on mobile order and they are available!
I started watching this channel when i was in 9th grade (im 21 next month) and these videos made my trip to Disney so much more enjoyable. Thank you for all the tips ❤️
We can't have anything good....
Japanese children: totally fine to go on miles long journeys alone
American children: drown themselves to hear an animated character talk underwater
This, exactly this is why Americans always "think" we're the "greatest" but in reality...not so much.
Don’t be a weeb
Just piggybacking on this to note that Disney Dan & Defunctland both have great videos on the kites & alien encounter. ☺️
I'll add a couple more
1) Free line skip passes - because money is king, and making people who already dropped a ton on vacation feel like second class citizen and have a horrible experience in the park is apparently one of Disney's prime directives, after all it's just a LITTLE bit more.
I'm surprised they gave the name "Pleasure Island" to an unrelated nightclub rather than an area/ride themed after the island from Pinocchio.
Happy 15th Birthday to you, A. J. & all of your hard-working staff!! LOVE you guys!!
I'm surprised there was no mention of the EXTREME downsizing of the 4th of July decorations and especially the very minimal and shortened fireworks display.
I miss Disney Quest!
Yes!!! That place was a blast!
Man, the ubderwater audio sounds like a really cool idea but i can understand how that was a safety hazard
Congrats and many, many thanks AJ and DFB crew!
We appreciate the support!
Happy 15th DFB 🎉🎉🎉! Thanks for all of your helpful videos.
Should do one on all the times Disneys “pause” on something actually was. It would be a short video.
15 years!!!! CONGRATS!!!
Hard Rock hotel at Universal Orlando still has underwater audio
I just bought a Spork at docking bay 7 in WDW last week btw. I think they're back, but it was limited to 1 per purchase.
Thanks for the GKTW shoutout! As the mom of a former wish kid and a wish granter I LOVE it!
Alien encounter was one of the best innovations Disney made than they get rid of it…
Love Sorcerers’ of the Magic Kingdom. Just found an original binder for my cards at one of those cheap souvenir stores on my last trip. Wish they would bring it back!
I have been watching for about 15 years. I so enjoy especially your food videos.
I just miss Electric Umbrella soooo much!!!!!
Epcot is empty without it 😢
A classic!!
Ate there everytime i went to Epcot. I miss it also
My cat was in my lap when I watched this. She really enjoyed the clips from dino-land and the kite show. That is all 😂❤
I miss river country!
You forgot River Country and the Island walk around that was just across the water from the Campsites.
I loved Alien Encounter as a kid
You brave, brave soul you 🤣
@dfbguide
I think you missed an opportunity to call out Disney Quest. 🥰 I fondly remember being able to play and design my own roller coaster and experience early virtual reality kind of engagements . I think it is one of the things they shouldn’t have killed and maybe someday we’ll get lucky and get something like that back….. ❤
We COMPLETELY AGREE about Writer's Stop!!!! Loved that place!
The closure of a beloved building after one last Emotiinal night
Has my emotions running wild😂😂😂😂😂😂
Another enjoyable and informative video! Thanks!
Congratulations AJ. Love the channel. 😎
as a food service worker, plastic cheese from a pump is both too much of a hassle and horribly messy, and WAY too easy to burn yourself on both the machine itself and the cheese. totally get why plastic cheese was taken away from us, even if its sad.
I went on Extraterrorestrial Alien Encounter when I was six years old, had no idea what was going on and why people were screaming, when the alien 'breathed' on me I just wiped my arm unaware of what was happening 😂😂
I know somebody like that, they don't find horror movies scary but they barely understand what's going on lmao
24:08 I feel like some type of night show that wouldn’t disturb the animals would be perfect in there
I did the Stitch adventure in 2004 and those shoulder restraints hurt my shoulders and made it hard to breathe. It was not fun.
Poor Galaxy Edge lost the sporks and the Smuggler's Run 'employment' tags.
