Thumbs up if you're watching this in 2021 😎 UPDATE: I just released a new DRUM LESSON PACK! -> bit.ly/CobusLessons. 5 lessons, 90 minutes, for 27 bucks. It will make you better at tuning drums, mixing drums, I'll show you my practice routine, my worst habits as a self-taught drummer, and teach you one of my favourite linear licks. Thanks for being here!
Jose Pasillas is one of the most underrated drummers to date. So much talent. In fact; all members of the band individually are incredibly underrated. Probably the most talented, diverse and creative group of musicians I have ever heard.
Bro you guys dont know anything.. Have you ever heard jose live... He buchers his own song...its like the studio jose and the live jose are two different people...joes doesnt even do the simple fills in steller live...check it...i agree ... Studio stuff is phenomal... But live... Hahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaa....
You what I love most about your style, Cobus... not just the musicality of your drumming, but your use of space. You really use the space like a drum itself and it's really effective.
I prefer Cobus' drums on this track SO much more than the original, not that the original was bad in any way, but Cobus just adds so much more and I love it! Keep playing Cobus, you're one of my biggest inspirations!!!!!!!!!!
That is preference. I personally prefer Cobus' style, and appreciate the nuances he incorporates into his cover. You can't say one of these guys is better than the other, because they're both amazing with different styles. They're DIFFERENT, and you prefer Pasillas' style, you don't aren't even paying attention to their skill. I respect your opinion on their style, but I do NOT respect you saying one is just better than the other. Have a good day
You have to keep in mind that Jose was probably told to not overplay during the recording of the song and Cobus is making a drum cover video for our entertainment so he's not restricted. If you notice at live shows, most of the drummers will throw in some extras during some fills/etc because they're free to do what they want. Both great drummers and I enjoy watching them both.
Even though Corbus isn't pumping out covers like before, he is still my most favorite drummer on TH-cam. Always in the pocket and letting it rip! 100% flawless. Love it!
I'm so tired of hearing how rock is just noise and doesn't require much in the way of ability. This song, among many, represents to complexity and depth of talent required to replicate it. It's a musician's song. Someone walking around with their headphones in listening to this song more than likely isn't noticing the nuance of it's technical rhythm. Just as well, it's kind of like a diamond reserved for those who can truly appreciate it. To the rest, "Hey, good tune man"
I just had a very spontaneous burst of emotion listening to this song. Whoa! I need to take a moment, this song just hit the sweet spot of how I've been feeling lately.
Glad to see this wasn't an overdone cover as so many people do. Just go crazy on drum covers. I mean come on, just play the song like you're actually performing it and add your own flavor to it, don't destroy the song. Nice job Cobus as always!
Can someone please explain how he removes the ORIGINAL drum part from the song? I simply don't understand how that is done. Is there a software program I could get to do that with?
Can't tell if this comment is sarcastic or not but I feel like the way he did it was cool, but it is definetely much harder to match the style of a different drummer especially one as diverse and talented as Jose Pasillas. I would've liked to see Cobus to that! Still awesome cover
Louis Franco It was a legitimate question... You see, I think the covers he does are great - I simply don't get how you remove the original drum part from a song so that you can cover a song without the original drum part being played with the guitars, vocals, etc. of the original track. You see what I'm saying or not? It has nothing to do with how well he did this particular cover. I'd like to make some of my own drum covers. I just don't get how to remove the drums that are already there from the songs I'd like to cover. Make sense now?
I believe you can do it with Logic Pro. A friend of mine does green day covers all the time and he's able to isolate the vocals or the guitar or whatever he is keeping/getting rid of in Logic.
Michael Wilson.. cobus has never acted like he's better then anyone or boasted about what he has... and I'm almost sure he doesn't have massive amounts of money. hes worked hard for the ENDORSEMENTS he has... maybe you should stop complaining about other peoples blessings and be thankful for what you have...
I love when drums are not only sth that gives rythm to others from band, but shows that it's an instrument too and have it's own sound, and u r great at it! Great job, Cobus : ]
I love the way you play man, but sorry, this time i think you choose a bad song to do your thing, this song is almost perfect, even with your skills is hard to make it better but is a great drumming exercise anyways.
Why do some people think the point of a cover is to try to make it better than the original? He's just having fun with the song and doing something a little different than what was written, not trying to improve upon it.
Arian Surya It's a drum cover....It doesn't have to be the same. If you want to hear the original, listen to that. As a drummer of 17+ years, I can appreciate what he is adding. You just have to be open minded.
+Arian Surya A cover doesn't always have to do the song justice. It depends on what you set out to achieve. I see these covers as a showcase of what you can do with the song, not necessarily what "should" be done. If I was in the mood for some incubus I would play Incubus. If i wanted to watch a great drummer play a song I enjoy I would play this.
lol I always go watch other drummers and then i go back to watching cobus and it makes me smile everytime i'm in love with the technique and you always look like your havin a good time man keep rockin
Why do people always think the best drummers in the world are those in the best bands in the world...just because Cobus isn't in a big time band yet doesn't mean he isn't insanely good...I believe Cobus is as good as and even better than most of the great drummers out there...stop hating because he knows how to get his name out there...the guy deserves what he has and today I believe he's one of the best out there!..every time I watch one of his covers,I get a feeling that nothing is impossible!
Not a huge fan of Incubus, but I watched this video all the way through because it's been too long since we've had a new video! Can't wait to start seeing updates and new music flowing from the YTBP!
Somehow you have a way of taking "Total Sickness", backing it off a little, to = tasteful. Forget the fact that you can execute these licks; more impressive is the creativity in the phrasing. Simply marvelous; and a pleasure to watch!!
TH-cam is, and has always been Cobus's platform. Since he joined in August 2006, the main objective of this channel was for drumming. That's almost 7 years ago. I'm surprised there's not more than 373k subscribers.
Absolutely sick cover! Your style really suits this song, which happens to be a personal favourite of mine. More Incubus in the future please, would love to see a SCIENCE-era song covered!
I'd measure Cobus as the best drummer in Terms of definitely having the most creative drum parts I've ever heard. I hear parts that stick in my head, leaving me thinking "damn, that was Crazy". On top of that, the guy has fun! He just absolutely just reeks of Energy. When i watch Cobus cover a song I just instantly want to jump on my kit, thinking I can sound that good. When i watch a lot of drummers deemed "better" i see more or less speed over anything else. I'd rather watch someone have fun.
Incubus was a band I always meant to check out but just never got around to doing it and I really dug this track so thanks Cobus for exposing me to them! And great playing like always! :D
This makes me extremely proud to be a drummer! watching you play is like "art in motion". your style is so damn smooth and flawless, and the way you really get into it when you play is just amazing dude. All i have left to say is,well done man. . .well done!
Are you kidding?! I know what you mean about capturing the original feel/passion of what the original song offers. I think Cobus does a great job of filling in the gaps, while still staying true to the dynamics of the original. I don't mean to thrust my opinion on you (even though that is EXACTLY what I'm doing), I just think he DOES play this with passion. That improvised lead-in he does on the pause at 2:58 .....that is KILLER!!
Incubus is only the greatest band of all time. I have only really listened to their last three albums in the last year. I always forget how good their older stuff is.
Fantastic set, Cobus, as always. Glad to see you getting better every time you post. Was just wondering whilst watching this awesomeness if you would ever attempt Deftones or Coheed and Cambria in the future. You know, just because. In any case, keep it up Cobus!
2 more months and it will be almost a year since you recorded this cobus O_O dang time goes by so fast XD Keep it up man you are still a huge inspiration to me can't wait to hear the mybp :)
Thumbs up if you're watching this in 2021 😎

Jose Pasillas is one of the most underrated drummers to date. So much talent. In fact; all members of the band individually are incredibly underrated. Probably the most talented, diverse and creative group of musicians I have ever heard.
i cant like this comment enough
ThatDudeWithTheRedHat If that's the version of Incubus with Dirk Lance on bass you're talking about then absolutely!
You really might want to re-think that statement after you watch this:
th-cam.com/video/8-42qt-GE5A/w-d-xo.html
They are critically acclaimed. One of the best rock bands ever. Grammy nominated multi platinum selling band

Cobus - this is one of the cleanest, most perfect videos you’ve ever uploaded
Incobus!

kewlfx Not to mention how tricky the first part can be. This is probably one of my favorite usages of rest on a drum kit.
Even though Corbus isn't pumping out covers like before, he is still my most favorite drummer on TH-cam. Always in the pocket and letting it rip! 100% flawless. Love it!
Incubus is my favorite band of all time! You sincerely so them justice (:
I had almost forgotten how much of an awesome drummer Cobus is, and why he was such an inspiration for me to start drumming. Make more covers!
I'm still hoping to see you make cover of "Crawling in the dark" By Hoobastank. I'd love to see your version of it. It'll be legendary!
my bro the best cover by far in youtube!!!
I'm so tired of hearing how rock is just noise and doesn't require much in the way of ability. This song, among many, represents to complexity and depth of talent required to replicate it. Charlie Havner yea... If he played it...
I just had a very spontaneous burst of emotion listening to this song. Whoa! I need to take a moment, this song just hit the sweet spot of how I've been feeling lately.
I'd sell my soul to be able to drum like him.
You and Meytal Cohen are probably the best drummers on youtube! Congratulations, continue intertaning us with your covers!
InCobus!
I have serious respect for you, as a drummer and a Christian! You inspire me so much Cobus!!
You should do Sad Sick Little World while you're at it.
and every other song
I am so glad to see that you need a new video. And on top of that, Incubus!!! That's my favorite group. Great job and I can't wait to see more
That left hand independence!
Glad to see this wasn't an overdone cover as so many people do. Just go crazy on drum covers. I mean come on, just play the song like you're actually performing it and add your own flavor to it, don't destroy the song. Nice job Cobus as always!
Hot for Teacher cover... PLEASE!!!
The musicality of this cover, was the best I've EVER seen on youtube! it was there, that was it. GREAT COVER !
Can someone please explain how he removes the ORIGINAL drum part from the song? I simply don't understand how that is done. Is there a software program I could get to do that with?

***** Any ideas on a specific program I could use to do that? Just wondering - and thanks for the info. :D
Nick W. Oh my bad hahaha but yea I have no idea.
I believe you can do it with Logic Pro. A friend of mine does green day covers all the time and he's able to isolate the vocals or the guitar or whatever he is keeping/getting rid of in Logic.
The best part is that you can tell you are loving every second of this. Having FUN is what its all about and you sir know how to do that.
We NEED more Incubus covers... Best band on planet Earth.
he looks like Luis Suarez playing drums!
jajajaa pensé lo mismo. Pero es un capo el loco con los palos
nahhhhh
I love when drums are not only sth that gives rythm to others from band, but shows that it's an instrument too and have it's own sound, and u r great at it! Great job, Cobus : ]
I love the way you play man, but sorry, this time i think you choose a bad song to do your thing, this song is almost perfect, even with your skills is hard to make it better but is a great drumming exercise anyways.
hell yeah, this is not a "drum-show" song
Why do some people think the point of a cover is to try to make it better than the original? He's just having fun with the song and doing something a little different than what was written, not trying to improve upon it.
Christian Davila well said!
I literally gasped in excitment when I saw this. This is one of my favorite songs ever! Thank you Cobus for making my day!!
Cobus covers incubus. Lol
Cobus, every song you cover, you just own it. You are amazing!
Sometimes I just feel this guy has ruining the original song. Just close Your eyes and listen, You will Feel That for sure.
Arian Surya It's a drum cover....It doesn't have to be the same. If you want to hear the original, listen to that. As a drummer of 17+ years, I can appreciate what he is adding. You just have to be open minded.
Justin Ross Agreed man

Dude has skills and should go somewhere, and will 100% if he shows up every day and has persistsance. Amazing!!! Stunned.
you make my brain hurt trying to comprehend the way you move on your set. absolutely amazing
Not a huge fan of Incubus, but I watched this video all the way through because it's been too long since we've had a new video! Can't wait to start seeing updates and new music flowing from the YTBP!

COBUS!!!! Seriously,,, My fav drummer covering my fav band ever... Just made my day!!
Ive pretty much been waiting for this my entire life.
Somehow you have a way of taking "Total Sickness", backing it off a little, to = tasteful. Forget the fact that you can execute these licks; more impressive is the creativity in the phrasing. Simply marvelous; and a pleasure to watch!!
cobus is just the best in making drumcovers of songs. thats what hes doin....
TH-cam is, and has always been Cobus's platform. Since he joined in August 2006, the main objective of this channel was for drumming. That's almost 7 years ago. I'm surprised there's not more than 373k subscribers.
New cover by Cobus, best birthday present ever!
Eu ainda não vi ninguém gravar com essa mesma qualidade de vídeo e criação de groves e viradas!,esse cara é único.
Absolutely sick cover! Your style really suits this song, which happens to be a personal favourite of mine. More Incubus in the future please, would love to see a SCIENCE-era song covered!

My man Cobus ! I'm usually not thrilled about covers, much less commenting on them, but doooood! That was fun to watch ! Keep evolving :)
THANKS FOR CHOOSING MY FAV MUSIC OF ALL TIME!!! YOU ROCK BRO!!
