In my opinion, Jose really gave the band its sound on these early hits. The guitar and bass are generally pretty minimalist, but Jose fills in the spaces with all these drumnbass, funk, dubstep, hip hop, metal beats. It's really ear-candy.

Idk man I think it’s the marriage of Jose’s and Alex’s playing. They were really something else together. Too bad Alex parted ways so negatively.

i got a full drum kit when I was 14-15, spent hours playing and learning SCIENCE, Make Yourself and Morning View. Knew that shit backwards and forwards, probably not perfectly (whether missing small detail or not having certain cymbal type), but definitely played to it. Much of my drum playing style came from Jose who had such a great mix of funk, jazz, rock, and little splashes of everything inbetween. My favorite all time band from high school and college, such a talented group who's musical abilities are underrated and understated. Thank you guys for the music you brought to the world.

record player?.....I mean....radio, cd player, tape deck even.....but vinyl in 1997 wasn't really a thing. Not that I don't believe fully that this song was instrumental to a lot of young people of the time, I just have a thing about the reinsertion of the prominence of actual records into the mid 90s-00's. We were about CDs, vinyl was kind of a dead media at that time. Admittedly, I could just be showing my age and you could be WAY younger than I am and be genuinely speaking of a record player since they came back in fashion towards the 2010's.

Damn, this takes me down memory lane freshman year 2000 buying my first CD Make Yourself with my own money. I remember Incubus dethroned Papa Roach as my favorite band they would hold that spot for years to come and little by little started getting into other bands some heavier then others some more melodic I went in both directions and even into other genres of music. No matter how much my music tastes have changed I always find myself wanting to give Incubus a listen from time to time and it reminds me why I love Rock music so damn much! These days I'm into post hard-core (mostly swancore), prog rock, math rock heavy metal and a lot of other technical stuff mostly. Thank you Incubus for being a major soundtrack to my teenage years!
