My son(age 3.5 y/o) sits on the toilet seat just fine but doesn't do anything on it. If I put a smaller potty for him, he keeps touching his private parts and doesn't focus on peeing or pooping. I'm trying since a week now. I bring him to the potty every now and then and show him a visual symbol of the toilet. Let's see how long it takes. Thanks always for your very helpful videos. My son is non verbal at the moment but I want him to speak and become like you: an independent self-advocate

Hello there , I have a question. My autistic 9 year old is still in pull ups. I don't think he is getting the signal to pee in the toilet but he will tell me he has to poop ? Which leaves me feeling puzzled because how does he have to signal to know when to poop and not pee. Do you have any advice on this particular situation ?

Hi my little guy is opposite of yours he goes pee just fine but won't tell me when he has to go poop. I'm puzzled too. I do know he didn't like or understand what the tingles or shivers meant and that they were or are ok it's a signal. That nature is calling.

My child will not even tell me consistently when he goes in his pull up. He is 7 years old and has never wanted to be potty trained. How can I force it on him? It is the one problem I have with him and I cannot help to be frustrated. He will tell me a certain number of times and then just feel like he can do whatever he wants. He understands more complex thing if it benefits him play wise. He just will not tell me if he craps in his pants. I cannot take it anymore!

I’m sorry you are having to deal with all that? Have you tried positive reinforcement? Like rewards? At some point in time you may have to give him a choice and bring consequences on him for not obeying. Is it possible that he may be trying to convey something to you?

Some Autistic children have trouble with Interoception. My 4 year old autistic son struggles with this. He is still in diapers and can do all the potty steps, but has no idea when to go. He also struggles with knowing if he is too hot or cold, and if he is hungry or thirsty. Interoception is the ability to feel things going on inside their body. It is not something they can control. Because of this, some children have to simply start out going to the potty on a timer because they cant feel the urge. They won't always go, but they need to sit and try. Maybe try every hour. If that doesn't work, try more or less frequently. After some time of this, they may start to be able to tell that feeling inside that tells them they need to go potty. This will take time and diligence, but even if he always just needs to potty with a timer, it is better than nothing. I hope you found something that helps!

My little grand son struggles with this. I did help him thru most but we are stuck at poo poo in the potty. Thanks for telling me about interception I will look that up some more. It seems like a sensory type issue.

It's very hard to watch a video that has repetitive clicking music in the background
