    The cutout was really the only thing keeping me from getting a Gen 5 G19. I bought one anyway and tried these base plates. Wow! They made all the difference in the world. Actually gives me a better purchase then my old Gen 4 did. The little bit that protrudes out gives my pinky something to ride on and secures my grip. These are an awesome solution to the cut out. Thanks for sharing.

    The cut out was put there to assist in stripping the magazine Incase of a type 3 malfunction. If you have a practice type3 malfunctions or clearing malfunctions, then you would understand the function of the cut out. I personally can’t stand that cut out either but I do love the Glock 19 Gen5 I own one thanks for the video I will be getting some of these plates.

    Kinda glad that my hands fit a large glove but I don't have any of the issues some other guys do with the G19.

    I took the file on my finger nail clippers and filed that notch down and smoothed it out as much as I could. However, it still pinches a little when I shoot. I am going to buy some of these base plates and see what I think.

    If you have a double feed or a partially fed round sticking out of the mag in the gun, it won't drop free and you'll need to pull the magazine out. I'm not suggesting it happens often, but there are times where the mag release and gravity alone isn't enough for the mag to come out.

    Thanks for sharing. I like the added grip value of Pearce base plate too. I dislike half moon cut out on grip. I have 17 round mags.
    I want a filler for cut out for big capacity mags. Do you know of a product? Thanks

    You have the wrong ones, yours are for a gen 1 Glock which is why you have a small space between the floorplate and the front strap.
    The correct one is "PG-19G5" which gives a seamless fit, no space!

      usmc2511 With all due respect I do not have the wrong one. I have no interest in a finger extension which the model you refer to features.

    • @usmc2511
      @usmc2511 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No finger extension, I own five of them, just a flush fit, no pinch honest. Call Pearce CS and ask if you don't believe me.

    Good idea but this will interfere with using them in my gen4 G19. I have a gen4 and a gen5 and will just throw a bunch of mags in my range bag when I bring them. Don’t really want to have gen specific mags

    • @drdrake63
      @drdrake63  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Zec If I owned the gen 4 I would agree with that statement completely. The finger grooves were a complete deal killer

    I would prefer the extended mag base to stabalise my pinky

  • @rich1958
    @rich1958 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    While Glocks may be one of the most reliable guns out there, there is always a chance that any firearm can jam in a way where magazine needs to be ripped out. That is what cut out is for. Previous versions had cutout behind mag that went unnoticed by most. The gen 5 now has cut out behind and in front. Mostly due to bad ammo, I have experienced jams (on other mostly reliable pistols) where ripping mag out was required. Dropping an empty mag in itself would not prove or disprove the need for the cutout.

    • @drdrake63
      @drdrake63  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rich R agree with everything you say. Note that addtion of Pearce baseplate does not negate the ability to 'grip and rip'.

  • @davekerr2128
    @davekerr2128 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Pearce makes a magazine base plate with a pinky extension the model number PG19G5 that also fills the half moon cutout and gives you the extension for your pinky. The half moon on the PG19G5 fits the cut out better than the one shown in this video. Just put them on mine and they are awesome. Can be bought on the Pearce Grip Web site for less than $10.00, I received mine 3 days after ordering. Nice video Dave, thanks for posting.

      Dave Kerr Thanks Dave. I actually cover that a little bit in a follow up video to this.

    • @davekerr2128
      @davekerr2128 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Looking forward to seeing that one too Dave. I like the way Pearce added the half moon on the PG19G5 in a way that you can add it for the Gen 5 or leave it off for the Gen 4. I put some Locktite superglue on the back of mine for the Gen 5 to make sure that part stayed on. Thanks again for posting the video I enjoyed it. Be safe sir.

    I thought the cut out was a random point for your pinky to find and try to climb in to.

    I got a few of these for my Gen 5. Did not like the way it bulged out at the base on the front, so I modified it by sanding the bulge down, tapering it out the the tip of the baseplate, also added a bevel to the bottom of the leading edge to match the factory gen 5 mag. Made a quick video.. hope someone finds it useful. th-cam.com/video/G1Ay1XbATvU/w-d-xo.html

    Glock didn’t win the contract because
    A. The requirements were for a MODULAR firearm, which the Glock isn’t.
    B. Glock tried to bend the armed forces over and rape them on their insanely overpriced bid.
    Also, Sig was already fixing the P320 before the contract.
    How you gonna sit there and act like Glock didn’t have tons of problems with their Gen 1 pistols?

    Great comment about the sig ! Loved it ! They have bigger problems with patient infringement suit with steyr. Hope they bastardize the sobs lol . Oh the army’s first reports on the p320 are really bad , and two army active duty buddies have told me they are pure junk . Grip plates great idea now to find ? K

    • @Konvinced89
      @Konvinced89 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      keith kent A reputable source told me the contenders for the Army contract were told to set up their guns for whatever ammo they wanted, caliber and weight were open. So SIG fine-tuned the M17/18 to run 147-gr JHPs, but when the Army tested it, they insisted on running their junk 115gr ball ammo through it. You don't ask for a race car then fill it with pump gas and expect it to run well. Also, SIG says the M17/18 has different internals than the P320, so projecting issues with one onto the other isn't an honest criticism.

    • @keithkent8126
      @keithkent8126 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Konvinced89 read the updated army report ! Problems very similar to standard p320 . Ammo shouldn’t be a problem it’s not for my Glock it will run everything. The p320 is a jam o madix . Sorry if the truth hurts . I love sigs just not the polymer junk .

    Read the army report it’s all over the internet! I love sigs just not there polymer junk ! Ammo maybe the problem! But there are guns that will run there junk fn509 Glock 19 ops that’s right. Blame the lam ammo what else is going to pop up next !

      @@drdrake63 If you shaved off just a little bit so it sits flush with the opening it would be perfect. Was there a reason it was designed that way? Again, awesome idea just needs a little tweaking in the fitment department.
