During the 1950s to 1990, this was the gun to have for CCW until Glock 19 introduced in 1988 became available in some numbers. The S&W 39 and Browning Hi Power were close competitors but Glock "broke the glass."
I like your straightforward approach for each firearm that you review 😉. I also enjoy your appraisal of firearms as you shoot them. You are the no BS reviews.
Just a excellent video on the Colt commander from 1969 the new ones today have much better sights in front and back about $1,000 if you could find one buy it they are hard to find 🇺🇲💯👍
That’s a BIG 10-4 Paul, Don here in Kansas am pushing 71 years, and I like that 1969 model, that year HS senior graduate! Just had model 12’s pheasant hunting, that is a cool 😎 COLT!
It should also be noted that on the earlier versions, the inside top of the slide is machined out more, also adding to the additional lighter weight. Mine manufactured in '68 has this feature and at some point this was discontinued as a friends LW slide is not milled out the same way.
I take issue with your dates of production; Colt was making light weight commanders into the 1980s at least. I worked for a Colt distributor in California.
I have a Colt Commander in my collection of 1911s, but it is not the lightweight. I would like to get an aluminum frame Commander size pistol. The steel frame Commander is really not much lighter than the Government Model. When I carry a 1911, it is usually one of my 2 aluminum frame Kimber "Ultra II" models
What's d deal with no more of bluing if is toxic there R filters for it , shame that's D Best Color in my humble opinion , I fine with a Stainless Ruger Blackhawk / Hunter , but for Classics Bluing 100 percent ..!
This is my favorite carry gun of all time.
I want another one!!!!
Love the 1911's, have 4 in my collection, 3 Colts, 1 Springfield,. 1 of the Colts is in 38 super.
Nice pistol. Really good shape. My Colt Commander digests every round I feed it and shoots minute of center mass! Steel is for real..
I carry a 1911 made in 1981. A great piece. Pull that out and you mean business. Big, heavy, and hard hitting.
A work of art!

I still think it’s the gun to have.
@@66smithra For some it is. I gifted my original Combat Commander to a favorite nephew and built a Caspian clone to keep for another.
It's a beauty!
Beautiful piece man, I love shooting my 1911s
Nice. I Love those older 1911s... It looks great
Absolutely beautiful gun. The 1911 will live on forever. All those plastic guns? Not so much.
The plastic guns will last longer in the landfill. 😜
@@garyK.45ACP actually if you really take time to think about it, other than criminals, nobody throws guns in the trash.🤪
@@mikeduncan6873 Not even Glocks? I've never been tricked into buying one , so I can't say for sure.
@@garyK.45ACP nope not even Glocks.
I am a simple man. Full size + full steel = 45 ACP. Commander size + lightweight = 9mm. That's how these guns were designed to be.

thanks! that's what we're aiming for

That piece looks a lot better than I did at 52 years

WAHOOO GREAT REVIEW !
WHO KNEW ALUMINUM ?
Very satisfying looking at that COLT The finish is one of a kind (Don in Kansas)
I have this exact same gun made in 1976. Mine has the wood grips with Rampant Colt emblem.

1911s, 4020s,A-5s, zebco 33s all american classics!!!
Nice video thanks
I have one in 38 super that I purchased used in the late 70’s. It has an aluminum alloy frame and colts site says it was made in 1971.
Beautiful gun.

with aluminum allow frames?
@@drdrake63 Yes!
1911 the best platform ever. Its the grandfather to them all.
Thanks
I have that exact one inherited been In my family for 30+years
Top show.
Great old colt.
Beautiful!👍🏽😀❤️
Nice looking pistol.
I have this exact model with the aluminum frame. How much is it worth

Mine looks nearly exact to this, sans the stamps on the barrel. Mine feels heavy though, so i can't imagine it is aluminum. How can I find out ?
Use a Magnet 👍
Very very nice pistol
I have the same maybe in a bit better shape. What’s it worth!!????
This is one
I have the same gun in 9mm
I believe this was the first gun I ever shot and I was most accurate with it. It's my dad's gun. 😁
Had an officers model. As a lefty , it was a bit unfriendly and jumpy. Gone now.
