let's talk about kaachi (and western kpop groups in general)

  • PART TWO: • let's talk about kaach...
    london based kpop group kaachi recently gained quite a lot of traction and quickly became incredibly controversial. i was incredibly intrigued, and decided to do my own research and share my opinions/objective critique on the group! (also stan sf9 hehe)
    #KAACHI #가치 #SF9
    i also didn't mention in my video how much i dislike it when ppl use a grainy texture overlay when editing their photos ... the teaser photos look fine but the graininess just ruins everything.

    𝗱𝗲𝗯𝘂𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝘄𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗿𝘂𝗺𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀:
    - they have never used "i blue you", dkdktv did an incredibly thorough interview with kaachi that debunks all the rumours (th-cam.com/video/KFQu4bvv7lw/w-d-xo.html )
    - please stop saying that the fan name is koochie and the light stick looks like a sex toy, both came from joke tweets and are incorrect
    - they also have no connection to oli london's company, though coco did appear in his mv or something INDEPENDENTLY.
    - none of the members have ever shipped themselves with jungkook, and the statements made against bang chan are all FALSE. any tweets made about shipping or dissing idols were made from a FAKE ACCOUNT
    - they did not copy bts' logo, any images you've seen on twitter were doctored and are not kaachi's real logo

      I don't understand why there is so much hate towards KAACHI, the rumors about them have been debunked by many people and they're fake. On the web, there are lot of people who will try to fool you and make you fake things about everything and anything. No seriously that's illogical ! You cry Jonghyun, Sulli, Goo Hara and Cha In Ha's deaths and you're making prevention campains against bullying and fake rumors, but beside this you're spreading fake rumors and you're bullying other people (here KAACHI). All of these rumors have been invented only in the goal to ruin their reputations. I do not stan this group but I do not send them death threats or insults, you should do the same. Me too I was about to believe to these rumors, I've almost being fooled by those fucking videos spreading fake rumors about KAACHI, but I saw comments and videos debunking all of these rumors.

      @@yohann_kpopfan3943 Hun most of us aren't even hating. It's just that the ones that are hating are louder. Kaachi didn't and never will deserve their debut. Actually they should go try to go through the 1st audition in the actual KPOP industry. They would obviously fail, with them lacking of skills in so many places. Lemme tell you something: *Kaachi is the trash no no landfill version of KPOP.*

    • @yohann_kpopfan3943
      @yohann_kpopfan3943 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@akemi566 saying they're trash is kinda mean. For me a K-Pop artist is singing in Korean or in Korean/English but also doing promotions in Korea, if they want to be fully considered as K-Pop they should do promotions in Korea, and as they improved since their debut they'll shine for sure in the future. And watch this please : m.th-cam.com/video/sTSpua7iTpE/w-d-xo.html, they talk about their background and other things. And they have a contract with FrontRow, you'll have to wait the end of their contract unless they renew this contract, they will continue making music whatever people say. They didn't go through the Korean training system bcuz their producer didn't want it to, she didn't want them to be unhealthy and depressed with overpacked schedules, and almost no time to rest/sleep like most of the K-Pop idols, Jeongyeon from TWICE said she will momently retire from the K-Pop industry bcuz she suffers of anxiety issues or something like this. They make the music they like, and K-Pop is a genre of music, not the fact that you trained in Korea to do it. And don't forget this : music has no language, music is for EVERYONE, music gathers well beyond all differences.

    i’m just gonna say.. It’s actually sad they debuted so easy. There are so many trainees who work so much harder than them and don’t even get to debut. Honestly they lack everything you need to be an AVERAGE kpop group in so many ways, when i was watched their As If Its Your Last cover i was not impressed at all. They weren’t even in-sync, their emotions were flat and they didn’t show any kind of team work in that performance. I don’t think it’s fair to compare them to a group like BTS who (are legends-) have trained for YEARS but if you compare them to a group that debuted this year or late 2019, THERE IS A BIG AND CLEAR DIFFERENCE! It doesn’t even seem like they want to be a kpop group, they just look like a bunch of friends dancing for a school talent show and that’s the hard truth.

    • @novelistpoetry
      @novelistpoetry 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      i agree. to me, it seems like they noticed how popular kpop is getting and thought, "oh, if we do something related to that we could get famous or sumn" and when that didn't work because they lack real dedication, effort, teamwork, and skill, they chalked it up to not being kpop related enough, so they did the biggest thing they could think of, and rushed the process A LOT. part of it is also that they knew it'd be controversial, so they could gain fame that way. they want attention, and it doesn't necessarily have to be good. honestly, i could probably write a paper on this, so i'm gonna stop here, but you get my point (i hope).

    • @MyrthexLatoya
      @MyrthexLatoya 4 ปีที่แล้ว +238

      To be fair the Westen industry doesn’t use those labels. They don’t use things like ‘American pop’, that’s not a thing, it’s just pop. But the K-Industry does call themselves ‘kpop’ and makes a distinction between idol music and non-idol music. I think that’s what makes this whole discussion about what kpop is so complex

    • @gioo2334
      @gioo2334 4 ปีที่แล้ว +31

    • @MyrthexLatoya
      @MyrthexLatoya 4 ปีที่แล้ว +63

      A. T. I agree that the Western industry is extremely self centred and arrogant and xenophobic. But I just meant that you won’t ever see people call it ‘Western/American pop’ just because those terms don’t exist, it’s just ‘pop’. And because the K-industry does make that distinction in calling themselves ‘K-pop’ it gets very confusing to define it. Is it a genre? (Not really because it incorporates different genres and is very diverse) Is it an industry? (Yes, but it’s more than just labels producing artists)
      So this group calling themselves a kpop group is both weird but also not really wrong? Because they’re trying to follow the conventions of kpop. But that label also causes backlash because it’s unclear what exactly they wanna do.
      So would have been way better to just produce a girl group inspired by kpop and be done with it. But they’re trying so hard to fit into this weird label and setting themselves up for failure 🥴

What's in your fucking minds to do such things ? Damn, you should stop doing this ! Don't you know the meaning of the word 'respect' ? Something else I would like to point out is that they aren’t hated because they aren’t Korean. For example when the concept for Z girls and Z boys came out literally no one called them Koreaboos. And there’s a simple reason for that. Those people aren’t Korean, that was their concept. The difference is that they actually put time and effort into training and learning to language to make a debut that isn’t complete and utter garbage. You didn’t see people hating on them because they were respectful. And I know Lana got a lot of hate when she debuted but again she was also respectful. A lot of us learned from that experience when we realized that Lana did nothing wrong. Her new song is actually pretty good and she even adresses the bullshit about her being a koreaboo. That being said Kaachi was none of these things. Imagine them as Koreans, would you like them if they were Korean? No, you probably wouldn’t. And the reason for that was because their song was actual garbage. Tell me I’m exaggerating but let’s be honest, even if our favorite group released that song we would never listen to it. The vocals are bad, the lyrics are bad, the production is bad, the music video is bad, their outfits were extremely mediocre. It’s just a bad song, if it was a parody it would be fine, but as a song it’s just trash. The reason this song and debut was bad was because they didn’t actually want to release music. They just wanted to be labeled as kpop idols. These people aren’t artist and they aren’t singers. To release kpop is pretty simple, just write a good song and sing it in Korean. It’s pretty simple but it requires you to actually want to make music and develop your skills enough to do so. That is why KAACHI is never going to be a kpop group.

      @noluv312 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Actual facts though

    • @luskaneseprince
      @luskaneseprince 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I agree with a whole lot of what you said, but not the bit about "just write a good song and sing it in Korean", because that's not what kpop stands for. Kpop does not refer to simply songs made in Korean language, because there are thousands of songs sung in Korean composed by Koreans, that are not kpop songs. They are songs made by ordinary Korean artists, composers and content creators. You know, trot songs, indie songs, classical songs, rock songs, you name it. Kpop (Korean popular music) stands for songs that are made within the kpop industry. The industry, aka a network of thousands of entertainment agencies, is what creates thousands of songs that have technically nothing in common in terms of style, vibe, genre, aesthetic or sometimes even language, but they are all kpop songs because they are made by people who work in kpop companies (aka kpop idols or the kpop composers behind the scenes). So therefore it's not quite as simple as just writing a song in Korean, you need to enter the industry itself to be called a kpop artist, and then receive training to be called a kpop idol specifically. That industry works to promote Korean products, language, people, culture and companies and because of that, is so carefully manufacturing the traineeship programs. But if you're outside of that industry and have zero ties to it, the music you produce (good or bad, skillful or untalented, Korean or not) cannot be called kpop by definition.

    But shipping themselves and spreading false rumors are just disgusting and also disrespectful to the other artists. They said that Chunseo went on a date with Kookie but that’s isn’t even true. It’s just weird and bullying Jenny, who they probably copied, is crossing the line.

      Yeah that's not what it is. If they made a Korean song they would still get hate... people's problem is not that they called themselves Kpop....it's because of the whole Jennie situation...if that would not have surfaces...that would not be the case. People just found something to hate on and ran with it. Calling themselves kpop...(which is valid because kpop means korean pop...it's about the genre)...is not the issue. People don't just get major hate all of a sudden. There's a level of jealousy and hate towards anyone who tried to make kpop songs who are not from Korea...or non koreans.

Kpop has standards and if you can’t really fulfill those standards don’t call yourself a kpop halfer. It just makes them sound lazy. • @athenahako
    @athenahako 4 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    i just watched kkachi’s video and it feels like coco is like the token asian. she didn’t have a presence in the video at all, although i did find myself looking forward to a verse from her. also, their dancing didn’t make me want to dance along to their dance and their energy wasn’t great. i know acting isn’t part of the package, but if you’re gonna do it, commit. in the video, it legit looks like they had no good takes of that phone call scene, so they ran with the one with the least mistakes, which is mediocre, at best. I can’t say that they are horrible, as this is the first of (possibly?) a new wave of pop to emerge, so they don’t have their own style or anything of their own, frankly. i wish that they wouldn’t call it kpop because they should try to gain respect by building a new community for a new genre, rather than piggybacking off of the trials and tribulations of an already established genre. find your own market and audience and work the shit out of it.

As long as you actually know the language, are in a group with Koreans, and put as much effort into it (it’s it’s what you really desire) it shouldn’t be a problem. Kacchi in my opinion is just making people who actually want to make it into the industry look bad, it’s always the international fans that have a problem with that fact, most natives (according to the research I’ve done) don’t care.

    • @luskaneseprince

      Yes there are some individuals who have been ready to sacrifice their time and energy and money to learn Korean and sign a contract with a kpop company and complete their traineeship program and we should congratulate them for their hard work. But I don't really see why a Korean-made music industry that seeks to provide opportunities for Korean people/language/products/companies/culture to get worldwide recognition and representation, should be opening its doors to random, 100% foreigner white people who have huge ass industries in their own countries waiting for them. I mean why would they even WANT to enter the one and only music industry that isn't established by or for them, especially if it's extremely competitive and has unhealthy standards? If they want to sing in Korean, they can. If they want to imitate the trends, genres and styles that they think originated from kpop (but didn't actually), they can. They can do a whole lot without outright trying to claim a word that by definition does not describe them, because the word kpop idol only refers to a person who has been officially trained within the kpop industry. So although I don't think white people entering the kpop industry is a downright bad thing, I think they for sure shouldn't be a priority here, at least not before Koreans themselves are widely represented within the industry (right now they only accept ethnically Korean Koreans, skinny & able-bodied Koreans, traditionally attractive Koreans, etc....).

    They could do something like True Damage (it's a fiction band) were they mixed Korean and English because one of the (fake) members is Korean. Just idols, not kpop idols.

    • @luskaneseprince
      @luskaneseprince 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Idol within the context of kpop refers to the training procedure kpop idols receive, so it's like a title that you can earn only through arduous hard work and a very specific manufacturing process. So people can't be idols if they haven't been trained within the kpop industry similarly to how a doctor cannot be a doctor without graduating from med school and getting a license. The word idol in the western (or English) context refers to just a person who people look up to or admire, and it's not a job on its own. Like my grandma could be my idol, if you know what I mean. So I guess these girls could call themselves a group of performers / entertainers / singers, or, if they participate in the creative process in any meaningful way, maybe artists.

    I honestly don't mind other races other than Asian in K-pop as long as they go through what Korean trainees go through, learn the language, respect and learn of the culture, and still remember that they are NOT Korean/Asian and never will be. It has been done before, even though it doesn't last long. But, take my opinion with a grain of salt, as I am not Asian, what really matters is what Korean folks think of non-asians in K-pop.

They find it fascinating and interesting and it becomes a point of interest, which is why naturally companies will keep on trying to bring non-asians into Korea to promote. Tbh ive mostly seen ppl hate on other ppl coming in when they're white. Otherwise, other attempts by fellow poc is overall accepted and encouraged. You can judge that as how you see fit lol

I am also poc, and just said what I thought. No, I can't speak for all of Korea nor was I trying to. I have many korean friends, some people who work in this industry and I've asked them about this issue many times. There are also many videos online where people do interviews with Koreans and ask them what they think about groups like EXP or acts like Lana etc etc. My response was based on the observations I made from both of those things/experiences. If you disagree, that's okay. I was just giving my two cents.

    • @jinchaaa4326

      @@koshira1977 lol that's a really uneducated statement to make. korea is known for its rampant and normalized racism against literally everyone except white and korean people. they may be "fascinated" with foreigners like lisa, but they have no real respect for them. whether or not there are foreigners in kpop groups today, the korean public does not respect them. companies bring in foreigners to cater to the widening WESTERN audience so that there are members who can speak other languages, but companies often give them the worst treatment and foreigners are often picked apart by korean netizens more, for example blackpink lisa, sana from twice. "other attempts by fellow poc are encouraged" is just simply an untrue statement. and the only modicum of truth in that statement see darker skinned poc as a spectacle or interesting show, not a respected idol. there is still extreme prejudice against darker skinned people and netizens shame idols for being too dark. there hasn't been a single kpop idol in the mainstream who is neither asian nor white.
      the reason there is such criticism around white idols like lana and kaachi is because they are simply accepted by the korean public because they are white. they rarely have to go through the same grueling treatment as poc or even korean idols, and are accepted by both korean and international fans because they are relatable (see nina from nizi, somi from p101). in the case of lana and kaachi, people just think they have no talent and got in because of their race, and i can see why they would think that. in my personal opinion as an actual korean person, kpop should be left to asian poc to succeed in, because they have been left in the shadows for way too long in the western spotlight.

    Let’s just completely ignore the fact that they’re a “western kpop group” for a second. I know it’s hard but just do it . Now think about their song overall . The song is nothing special , it’s really basic , their vocals are average. They’re not doing anything that hasn’t been seen before except for the fact that they’re not Asian . So calling themselves a “k pop group” just seems like an insult to real k pop artists who worked really hard to get where they are and are still working hard to stay where they are. Basically if you look at it their whole brand is just : “ Hey we’re not all Asian so we’re different “ I’m sorry but somebody had to say it.
    Edit: i see a lot od people in the replys talking about accepting other races into k pop so I just wanted to add I don’t mind non Koreans in k pop but they have to at least speak the language and understand it, because what’s the point if you don’t even know what are you singing ,but most of their song is in English so I don’t consider it to be k pop . And also you should know at least a little bit of the Korean culture , but need I remind you their company is not even in Korea.
