The K in kpop stands for the Korean language. It’s like saying Latin music is only for Latinos when it’s not. Kpop idols use Hip hop and music from other cultures so those other cultures use be able to sing Korean as long as they try to learn the language and appreciate the culture.

The thing about KAACHI is that they try to portray stereotypes of Koreans which can cause more harm than good, I don’t think people have a problem with the language. They should’ve said that their group was inspired by Kpop, it would’ve cause less controversy :/

    • @CottidaeSEA
      @CottidaeSEA 4 ปีที่แล้ว +87

Kpop as a concept is not Korean only, but it just feels strange to make a bunch of girls sing in a completely different language for really no good reason.
My problem with them isn't so much what they do, but how they do it. They are bad at the language, their skills are subpar, and it just feels disrespectful to the Kpop culture as a whole. If you're going to copy something, at least do it well.
I think it would be better if they had stuck to English and instead learned from the Kpop industry and applied that knowledge. Besides, English speakers are in a different situation than Koreans. Kpop uses English for effect and to reach an international audience. This group could simply use English and not have to worry about it. Using Korean instead makes it seem a bit awkward. That's not to say using words from different languages isn't fine, but it's usually fairly limited and again, it has to be done well.

Lets be real, most k-groups are still only known in korea, which again, makes sense. If you don't have the motivation or desire to invest in other cultures it's totally fine! The problem with kaachi is exactly that they represent the stereotypes rather than being actually passionate abt themselves

like, idc, but i found the hype around westerners debut too high in particular compared to the 'level' they have

Honestly their company, not the girls, deserve the hate because they did them dirty. I've seen so much false information spread about them and out of all people, kpop fans should know how that feels. Yes there were criticisms but the unecessary hate overshadows this and it shows. And I agree that the company shouldn't label them as kpop because the company itself isn't even kpop. The girls even reacted to Johnny's cover/remix and were willing to admit that they prefer his version because they really do wanna pursue their passion in making music (inspired by kpop ?) And are willing to listen to criticisms (not hate) so that they know what they can improve upon.

When you mentioned "inspired by kpop" I immediately thought of the Filipino group SB19 who is doing something like that, trained under a korean company. They went through so much training and is doing very well in the Philippines right now. They sing in english and Tagalog and some korean covers. If Kaachi went through more training and went to "inspired by kpop" than "kpop group" I think they would get a better audience and comments...
Edit: other groups such as zgirls who I think are about to debut as well are good examples of why there should be more training

    • @lusibeth

@Shreek yes, which i think a lot of people were confused about from the start. They are a good example as a group native to their own but founded in korean training system. If Kaachi just said "inspired by" i think they would receive better comments. Unfortunately, it was a wrong move of advertisement, especially with kpop fan culture who can be very unwelcoming and overcritical at times... (and they werent ready to debut yet)

i feel like a good example would be Z-girls and Z-boys. Even though they are not kpop they are heavily inspired and it works. The difference is that they actually put in work and quality. Kaachi looks like a wannabe group with low production and not so polished artists that speak broken korean. Which is insulting since the whole point of Kpop is that it stands for korean language since the music itself is a mix of different genres not originally from korea mostly. If they've put more work and quality in their craft I think they would've done decent.

I think Kpop is not really like a genre or style of music but it’s rather a lifestyle, a profession (job), a business that you can’t just join but you need to train to be ready for it. Not only is Kaachi not really prepared but they also aren’t taking into consideration what happens behind the scenes. It’s like calling a bike a car like even though they both are means of travel, they work in completely different ways and how it’s made and how they work is completely different even though they have the same purpose. There is so much going on behind the scenes in Kpop that Kaachi’s team (including the “company” and such) don’t understand. Maybe slowly in the future we will get to a level when something like this is fine but not right now because Kpop hasn’t evolved to be that flexible. The “definition” of Kpop is too different to consider Kaachi as part of it and the team is also very innocent and naive, not understanding how complicated it actually is.

My opinion: To me this is an obsession if you're not willing to learn the language or the culture. Koreans in the music industry are heavily influenced by black and Latin culture. I feel that sometimes even they don't understand the cultures they imitate for music (gidle is an example). Anyway these girls aren't Korean. As many have said they could at least know the language or learn it and debut in Korea since its KPOP. what pisses me off is Alex from Rania had to know how to dance and learn the language and she still got booted from that group.

I do agree with most of it, people need to chill. However, I don't see the point of them auditioning. They aren't the ones who want to be artists, but you also don't need to be one to judge the skills of others if you've got enough to compare with.
When I watched Produce 48, I rated people alongside the judges, and most of the time we had the same opinion. Those industry veterans thought the same thing as me. They of course have way more credibility than me though.
The same way, we can see that these girls aren't up to par. I think that's the main reason why people are upset. They compare themselves to people who often train extremely hard for years, yet don't have the same skills. To me it's understandable that they would receive criticism, even though a lot of it is overly harsh and rude.

You can be a pop idol without being kpop. Don't fit yourself in kpop if you are not making Korean music. LANA is an exception because she does music in Korean, was trained in Korea and debuted in Korea. Therefore, she is a valid kpop idol.
Take SB19, for example. Even though they received training and is represented by a Korean company, they consider themselves as PPOP, because (1) They produce Filipino music (not a drop of Korean language), (2) They debuted in the Philippines, thus their chosen market is the Filipinos, and (3) They respect the other groups, in and out of KPOP industry.

Ok so, here’s my opinion as a white female who loves kpop.
I feel that it’s ok if white people join an actual korean company, study the culture and language, and actually try their best as a trainee while COMPLETELY and UTTERLY respecting the culture and language.
What I don’t feel is ok, is to blatantly steal from Korean culture and use kpop as a trend... it’s just gross! People (and mainly white people, let’s be honest) consistently steal from asian cultures and claim it as their own.. its not ok and it’s nothing you can justify. If these girls, or anyone, want to become kpop idols they should properly audition and move to korea to train.
Also, it’s funny to me how they called it “kpop” but the thing about kpop is that it’s just korean pop ? If they’re not singing in korean.. it’s just pop. Which the UK already has.. it makes no sense to me 😂 and the UK has an insanely talented girl group already named Little Mix. They’re great singers, dancers, rappers, and song writers but they’re extremely underrated. They should pay more attention to their own artist before trying to add more girl groups into the industry.
*So, my basic synopsis: non-koreans in kpop is fine ! stealing from korean culture and making it into a different country’s culture, is not fine.*

agree and disagree with this. what you're suggesting is cultural appropriation. that's very subjective and controversial on its own what is and isn't that. i agree though, respect is key. it would be 100% better if they did it the hard way and it shows in their song and mv the cost of taking the shortcut. if they went that route, they probably wouldn't have made it through the initial auditions, who knows? if Grace didn't come on youtube, I would've never found her wonderful personality and honestly, it'd be a waste if she just joined the army of kpop idols (i'm getting too old to tune in so much now)

Little mix is from the UK? I had no idea and I love their songs lmao. I think pop is different, because kpop has the dancing while singing thing and the different clothes and hair colors, and it's more manufactured. Honestly Grace I have to say this is what sets you apart. Every other youtuber I’ve seen talking about KAACHI simply roasted and bashed them but you actually provide constructive criticism as well as trying to stop the bullying. It’s so sad that after losing three talented young beautiful souls that those same people who were talking about anti bullying are now advocating bullying this group! You’re totally right- it is a project and it seems like they are tying to dip a toe in the pool to see people’s reactions of having a variation on kpop maybe but yeah they should have just said they were inspired by kpop and also thought about addressing their previous actions or whatever but hey we all make mistakes. I don’t particularly like the group and I don’t think they are super talented and the debut seemed rushed as they have a long way to go with their skills and even their budget but they can always take everything on board and go from there.
What makes kpop special is the training idols have to undergo to be “perfect” in all aspects (singing, dancing, performing) and you can see they really did not take this on board. It felt like “instant-kpop” minus the korean aspect. It’s important to learn the language and about the culture. But yeah. Happy you made this video and I hope the girls do not let the harsh comments get to them!
Can you talk about what kpop groups / members think about solo stans ? Or those ones who like one (or a few) members and hate on the others? Thanks for the video 💓

I used to live in South Korea and my students gave me a "Korean name". They did it as a means of balancing the idea of "English names" (I would still call them by their Korean names, but some people just preferred the "English name"), but if I was becoming an Idol, I would use that Korean name as my stage name because I would have a cute back story. So, personally, I don't think it's odd for a foreigner to use a Korean stage name. However, if it's a super traditional Korean name (like Sejong...you know, the inventor of Hangul), then it's a fair criticism.
My "Korean name" was based on it being of equivalent cuteness to my real name...at least according to my 8 year old students...

And it was your students who gave you the name, not you, and it was used in everyday life rather than only to be a “kpop idol”. I just find it a bit strange since she doesn’t even live in Korea or speak korean. The problem is not that people don't want diversity in music - because that's exactly what they want. They want to see asians slay the music industry world-wide and not get pushed aside again by white artists. So many asian artists born in USA/Canada/Europe only have the chance to succeed when they go to korea or japan. Jackson Wang, Jay Park, Ailee, Mark Lee , Wendy, Tablo (etc the list is very long) would have gotten absolutely nowhere in the mestern music market.
After K-POP got so huge it got kinda normal to see asians in western media. Asian representation is pretty much non-existent in western media (I can literally only think of Luzy Liu, Jackie Chan, Sandra Oh and Ken Joung from the top of my head sorry)
For f'@%&s sake people still call BTS chinese or japanese and use derogatory terms to refer to them or saying they can't tell them apart - after almost 4 years of them being incredibly popular in the western market. The cross-race-effect has to be minimized.

They have stood up for me so many times through all the shit I had to through. They have stopped me from doing stupid things and thinking thoughts that I belive no one should think whilst trying to follow their dancing, singing and rapping dreams. Now they have this opportunity and now people are saying things like die, kill yourself and they same things they stopped me from thinking! Some people don't really understand how it is effecting them and the people around them. I am certainly not hating on Grazy Grace for this video and her opinion! I never tell someone they can't express their thoughts but people especially stan twt need to think about the constant rumors that they are coming up with and the hate, the death threats! Yes the video of their old dance account sais something to an idol who has worked so hard and trained but they have aploigized and in addition it was NOT the girls who had said that aboutt Jennie! And the same thinga people have said about Jennie are now being said about them and the people around them. HOW would jennie feel if she saw her precious fans acting this way while trying to defen her. Obviously defend the people you love but why this way?? You mean like how K-pop songs "steal" from American hip-hop and Latin dance and African beats? Like that? It's wrong too, I guess? So only American black people can do hip-hop. No French singers allowed to use samba arrangements. No people from Thailand allowed in K-pop. That's right, Lisa. Get out. Shakira wants you gone. She's into racial purity. Or maybe Lisa is ok with you because she looks kinda Korean so who cares? Wow. Is that what you want? The K in K-pop is for Korea just like the Brit in Brit-pop means United Kingdom. It's the country of origin for a category of music. That doesn't mean nobody else is allowed to emulate it. If you ask anyone from Korea they will say it's flattering, and they are proud that what they created is spreading across the globe. Just like American rap OG's are thrilled to see what K-pop artists are doing with their creation. Korean idols know KAACHI isn't coming for Twice's MAMA trophy, so they aren't tripping. You don't need to either.

Jill Sanders sorry I tuned out after your sarcastic and quite frankly covertly racist first sentence 😂 because I didn’t actually read the whole thing. I stopped at your so-called “racial purity” point. which might I add makes no sense at all, you used Lisa an example simply because she is Taiwanese, even though she’s part of the same racial group. Another example of where your logic is greatly flawed. Is your assumption of the use of other music genres. where did I mention other genres of music let alone even say “American hip hop is just for black people”. There’s a difference between cultural appreciation and cultural appropriation, Karen. I bet you also think it’s alright to wear box braids and cornrows and partake in the “fox eye” trend. Moving forward, use more sensical examples and maybe don’t put words in my mouth? 🥰

shakira she’s not Taiwanese. She’s Thai. It’s pretty easy to tell just by looking at her. You need to check who is being insensitive. You don’t even know what country she is from yet you want to be an advocate. You probably don’t even understand the political implications of calling someone Taiwanese either. So let me help you. The Republic of China is a country that is located on the island of Taiwan. The people who live there are ethnically Chinese. But some prefer to be called Taiwanese. As an outsider you are not allowed to just label someone whatever you want. You have to wait and see how residents prefer to identify themselves. I’m not being racist. I’m using sarcasm to point out your own racism. And ignorance of country names too I guess. There’s a thing white people do that is really annoying to people like me. They want to be a hero for other cultures. This comes from feeling superior. You don't see the exchange between K-pop and other musical styles as an equal trade between cultures. You see them as weak victims of cultural theft. That's your unconscious racism right there. You think they need you as a savior. But you aren’t superior and they don’t need you to rescue them. K-pop is not being stolen via cultural appropriation. South Korea is exporting it via Hallyu. The fact that people are trying to copy what's coming out of South Korea is a huge win for Hallyu, not a tragedy.

7:58 As someone who loved and supported the three members (Chunseo, Dani and Nicole) when they were in UJJN, It really hurts seeing them get all these hate, these things I hear about them are not at all what they used to be in UJJN. Not trying to say they weren't wrong, It's just that the UJJN family does not mainly consist of the three girls, there are other members there too and I'm worried about them as I'm slowly seeing the hate comments coming in from their videos. I will however still support UJJN and UJJN only.

Omeee me tooo, I literally love ujjn and was so sad and mad to see all the hate that they are getting. Like I get people dont like Kaachi but the amount of hate is so sad and all the false information being spread all over the place is just disgusting. Like if you dont like them, ignore them 😣. But yes I will still watch ujjn because I love them ❤

@@misty_loves4584 They're literally the only people who got me into old kpop songs because that's what they mostly dance to. They will always remain in my memories. Let's just hope the hate doesn't spread to the other members.

Ah me too! I loved the random k-pop dance challenges from them!! I honestly am so sad about what's happening.
I've tried my best to stand up for the girls in some comment sections. I'm really afraid that something might happen to them because of hate.
It's so hypocritical of these k-pop stans to do this. Look at what happened to sulli because of stupid comments and rumors! They never learn, until someone ends up dead and then say that they'll never do it again and then continue to hate on the next person. I hope we don't have another sulli case.
The rumours of them copying bts songs, shipping, hating on Jennie and bangchan are not true. I also don't get it, what's the problem with shipping themselves with an Idol??? Like armies don't do that? There are literally so many Y/N x JK fanfics- I don't know why they're getting backlash from things they didn't do or say. Truly shows how toxic the fandom has gotten.
I honestly hope they stop getting hate and death threats.

I have nothing with the girls. I feel like if they would've trained harder, the vocals would've been good. I even like their concept, but the song... nah. If you have a dream, no one cam tell you what to do, but it's not a real dream if you don't work hard for it, right? My point is actually, stop hating on these poor girls.. they haven't done anything to you... or at least leave a constructive hate one. Last year it was Lana and the fact that she is "problematic"... trust me she isn't. She is hard working.

Yes, I agree! they could've called themselves a UK group inspired by kpop. It would've been better that way and they wouldn't get all the hate right now. cuz like you said if your NOT a kpop group from Korea and trying to be a kpop group lots of people are going to critique about it since we have high standards.
for example Z-girls and Z-Boys they arent a kpop group but an asian group inspired by kpop and they are doing fine!

I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt but it's hard to take them seriously when it's obvious that they didn't go through the typically intense idol training process and did not work on their skills to try and nearly perfect at least one of the essential skills needed to be a performer. Energy can't carry your performance if you can't dance, sing, or rap. Part of why people love kpop so much is that the performances always showcase the talent and skills of members in all fields. Not having any of the essential skills a performer needs just immediately puts you at a disadvantage.

I totally agree with what you said about the hate comments they have been receiving. Those comments were just too much. Imagine being spoken with those words. I'm also not into them and I get where the people who expressed their disappointments are coming from but uttering mean words towards them is a different thing. This gg did become popular but not in a good way and I feel bad for them. And as much as I want to express my disappointment on some aspects of them, I have to keep in mind to always choose to be kind (as per SB19's leader) so I have to choose my words wisely. Words that won't lead to someone's mental health crisis.

Thank you, Grace! Being a less skilled group, or a group that kind of mislabels themselves doesn't mean they deserve harassment! I think Kaachi calling themselves kpop is kind of silly if they don't really use any Korean in their music, but at the end of the day they're chasing their dreams, and I think it's pointless to try and tear them down when you could be investing your time in supporting the groups you *do* like.

Hey Grazy, I agree 100% to whatever you've just said in this video. I think I watched Kaachi but somehow I didn't really connect to it as a viewer because I'm so used to seeing more Asian faces. Ofcourse, it's not wrong to want to make a name in the kpop industry if you're a foreigner but yes, language does make quite a lot of what kpop is all about. It is Korean pop music.
Also, the point you brought out about the comment that trainer gave, if you're taking singing as a hobby, practice once a day. But the amount of precision, skill, mastery of the language, singing and dancing, can only come if you practice. And the reason I so really appreciate kpop and never hate on any group whether I'm into their music or not is because of the amount of time and energy that goes into their work. They're really passionate about what they're doing to work their butt off for years on end without knowing if they're gonna debut.

    • @suhyungkim7041
      @suhyungkim7041 4 ปีที่แล้ว

And I first watched all of your experience videos and that's how I really understood and began to appreciate the trainees' and groups' hardwork.
I'd like to share something I came to know recently. NCT's Lee Taeyong, who is so widely known and loved for his visuals, dance and rap didn't know how to dance. At all. And now look at him.
YOU! You worked so hard as a trainee, learning how to dance and sing and woah, your rapping skills? I adore you and respect you for who you are. Everything happens for a reason. Being a trainee just taught you what you needed to know. Thank you so much for everything.
