Hopefully they stop urban sprawl and actually increase population density and invest in public transit

At around 1:20 the comment that Houston San Antonio and Dallas have grown in a "coherent circular blog" goes to the fact that those cities long ago planned for their future and built freeways and outer loops that would help control the growth corridors. Austin's lack of road planning and construction can be tied directly to the "don't build roads" and "if we don't build it they wont come" mindset of the 70's and 80's. No loop around the city forced the masses that have come to live close to the few main freeways in town, sprawling up and down I-35 and out 183 half way to Lampasas. I Lived there many years and during that time any road expansion or plans for a loop around the city were protested to death till it was cancelled. Remember MoKan expressway proposal that would have put a freeway just to the east of Austin similar to the current 130 but much closer to town? Outer Loop? Crosstown Freeway? All Cancelled by protest. Austin is in the big league now and the masses are still coming but its growth woes can be directly linked to lack of planning for the future by previous city leaders.

It's the typical liberal hive mind set; NIMBY, not in my back yard. The liberals hate anything to do with quality of life.
