So my RecPro was sitting on the garage floor for a month before I saw your video and gave it a go. We followed your rigging technique and my wife and I had it on the roof in a few minutes. The mailman and a neighbor driving by both offered to help but we were good to go at that point. Thanks for an inspiring video. Got me off the couch and on the roof and now we have AC! Note: I didn't get the low-profile unit because it was $500 more and just got the AC unit without the heat pump because we have a great heater (radiant heat in the camper) but looking back I'd probably have gotten the heat pump just to heat things up really quickly in cold weather.
Thank you for the great video! I tied knots in the rope after failing to lift the AC unit past the halfway mark. My plan was to surprose my wife when she came home, but I could not get a good enough grip on the slippery rope.
My small 9500 btu Houghton called for the self leveling sealant but it does not use the traditional foam seal, rather it uses a hard plastic frame that has a lip that fits down into the hole about a quarter inch and a lip that sticks up about a quarter inch. I think the instructions are in reference to the units with the plastic mounting ring. I used butyl tape under its flange and a filet seal of Geocel around it.
thank you for this putting this clip together. you did a great job and made me more comfortable to install it on my own. Your humor and clear instructions made it even more enjoyable to watch this video. Good Job !!!
Great job on the video. Short and thorough without time wasting fluff. In regards to your sealant comments, I wanted to mention that I did have an internal leak in our RV coming from a bad A/C roof seal. I still wouldn't muck things up with sealant, but wanted to let others know that if they have an older RV, it might be a good idea to inspect or swap that seal out if its over (10 years?) Ours is a 2011 Navion
Good video but have a couple of comments. I replaced a loud Colman a/c with Houghton 3400 from RecPro and it is much quieter and has heat pump but I also replaced a Onan generator that was gas carburetor with the new inverter style Onan QG2800i generator that is fuel injected. BOTH Houghton and Onan/Cummins say that a soft start is not required but I had the generator in Cummins shops 8 times being rebuilt/repaired and finally replaced since it would quit within 20 hours of run time. I ordered and installed a soft start from RecPro for the a/c unit and both have been working fine for the last 50 hours run time.
Smart cookie, using the ladder as a ramp, would suggest using a pulley on a shackle on the top rung and pull the rope from the ground, easier on the back and you get the mechanical advantage of the pulley, used that way to hoist rooftop condensers and skylights with heavy curbs onto rooftop especially alone. Good video
I've got the low profile version of this air conditioner on my camper and overall I've been very happy with it. It is so much quieter than the stock Coleman Mach 3 style air conditioner that my camper came with. You can actually carry on a conversation with it running.
@@fallenintocamping The camper that I have actually has a curved nose and when the compressor was on with the original one It would reverberate the entire front which is exactly where the bed is. It was pretty unpleasant.
Props for pulling that up on your own! My wife and I tried doing it together, thank God the neighbor came and helped us. No clue how you pulled that up on your own lol... Im about 230lbs and my wife is about 120. We pulled the 15k version of the recpro up on top of our Avalanche 390ds... about 14' up in the air. I about died 🤣🤣🤣
I’ve never heard of a drip pan before-I googled it and only airstreams came up. It seems to be an airstream specific thing? If that’s the case, I would. I’m not 100% sure why they have one, because most units run off of the roof. Most RVs also usually have roof channels that direct water away from the camper, so maybe thats to prevent water from just pouring out all the time? If you find out more info, let me know! I’m definitely curious! I don’t get the chance to work on airstreams, they are no common in my area for whatever reason!
I think that you should not install the ceililng unit, bent over the ceiling trim like that. Best to cut the trim so that the plate can sit flat on th ceiling.
you rock love the video. I have a 2020 Apex Nano the AC Unit I believe is 13500 btu it only drops the temp by 10 degrees when it's 80 and gets less as it gets hotter. would putting in a RecPro RV Air Conditioner 15K Non-Ducted cool it any better or am I wasting my money.
Oh no…this one pumps out the cold air (and heat too, if you get the one with the heat pump). Sounds like something might be wrong with your original unit too…especially with it being a 2020 😵💫
Awesome you won’t regret it-I’ve installed several of these units (and the units without the heat pump) and they work great! Feel free to send me an email or message me on Instagram if you’ve got questions!
Unplug the main power. Flip all the breakers off. Move the trailer to a large vacant field. Teleport the field to Mars. Teleport Mars to another galaxy. Yup, that should certainly do it. I think that once you unplug the main AC power plug you've gone as far as you need to go. As long as you don't plug it back in until you are completely done, you're good to go.
Don't use a crimp on a solid core wire (romex) it can either be used on fine stranded (only) or 2-3 wire romex termination which has been twisted with a half inch tail. Use wagos, wire nuts, etc. Manufacturers learned that the hard way when rv's started burning down starting at the a/c
Yes they usually are. The maxiifan runs off of 12v not 120v like the AC, so you’d have to figure out how to get power over to it. I just installed one on a horse trailer, so if you’re thinking of using it as an AC replacement, I don’t recommend. You will be hot. It moves air but when the air outside is hot, it doesn’t really help 😂
I don’t know why this didn’t cross my mind 😂 I always clean everything. I guess because the seal is more pressure related, not adhesive related. Probably still should have cleaned it though, good catch
I'm a little stuck with mine, I took the old unit off the roof and I can't get the Romex wiring out from a sealed collar. Not sure if I'm likely to destroy something if I push the issue
Just a note: the only thing I would have done differently is using wire nuts instead of crimps on the electrical wires.
Or WAGOS
This is one of the best videos on how to install a rv ac I have seen. You did a great job.

THANK YOU!!!! So nice to see another female doing RV repair/installs! Many kudos!!
Thanks again, I got mine installed! Peg M

Good idea…I always end up wrapping it around my hand for leverage but that seems like a much better idea 😂
Great video! Very clear, concise and logical. I hope you do more future videos on other subjects.

Ah I didn’t think of that! Good point!

Wow thats super straight forward. Thanks for the vid!!
Extending the ladder out reduces the angle, thus reducing pulling weight. Just a thought.

Thank you for the video. Great work. I’m installing one right now. Debating on drip pan use or discarding. Going on a 77 Airstream.
Thoughts?

So thats a heater and a Air Conditioner, if so will it fit on a Sprinter Van
Yes!

@@EldoonNemar haha not that far! But I am in VA quite a bit-my in laws live near Lynchburg

can it replace a MaxiiFan? Is the square the same size?

can a 3000w inverter handle this?
Are you trying to run it off of solar?

You robbed yourself of the pleasure of throwing the old one off the roof and watching it smash.
But then I would have had to clean up the mess 😂
What's difference in DUCTED install on this one?
