      When I did car audio for 15 year I used 4" x 3" doubled up thick house carpet(1yrd from Home Depot). Spent a lot of time kneeing down into cars/truck. Helps when you go from knee's to laying down on your side. Hate to think how much worse my knee's/legs would be today if I did not do this back in the day. Still used knee pads depending on the type of work.

I have a question though, what's your opinion on using RecPro's fiberglass/filon siding/roofing on the roof instead of their rubber roofing? Would it offer any benefits as far as strength goes, or do you think it would be so hard to install it wouldn't be worth it?

    QUESTION?? Love Ur informative videos!! I'm completing full renovation of my "98 C class RV and just replaced 100% of roof w/OSB sheets. What/Who do U recommend for a seam tape, before I glue new TPO membrane?? And would U recommend sanding the osb edges slightly to take the square edges off??? TIP for rusted screws/holes: I plug the holes w/ plastic zip ties and cut them. Now the new screws will have some bite when I re-insert!?!?

    Thank you for the awesome video. Carpenter here but new to RV roofs and I'm doing my first right now. The stickiness after pulling the old membrane is bad! All the debris is getting in it (I have sheets and holes to replace.) I'm wondering if you have a good method for cleaning what gets in the sticky stuff? I'm at the point of I'm about to replace every sheet because I'm scared ill have a sharp piece of wood sticking up now and ruin the new roof! Any suggestions??

    • @fallenintocamping
      @fallenintocamping  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The struggle is real…I try to minimize the amount of dirt that gets on the roof. If you noticed I cut the roof in sections and tried to pull it in a way that all of the debris gets scooped up with the membrane. But, if you didn’t do that, it’s tough. Obviously you want to make your roof as clean as possible. An air compressor can help blow some of the yuck off. A little dirt is okay. Definitely don’t want anything sticking up, but you can always lightly sand the rough spots. Every roof will be sticky, so don’t think it’s abnormal! I actually save my old shoes and use them for replacing roofs just to throw them away later…the old glue will stick to your shoes and will never come off 😂

    • @fallenintocamping
      @fallenintocamping  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I don’t think it’s necessary, the butyl tape actually catches the screw and twists it around itself when you drive it in, so that is a pretty good protection!

    Excellent video! I'm about to replace my roof and an watching a lot of these. One detail I haven't seen in any yet though, do you need to clean/sand the osb after removing the membrane? There's a sticky residue and sometimes dirt on it.

    • @fallenintocamping
      @fallenintocamping  4 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I don’t. When I remove the old roof membrane, if you look in the video (and I should have included this part) you’ll see that when I cut the sections I pull from all 4 sides and then pull up to keep the dirt and screws from spilling over onto the OSB. Basically trying to push the dirt and screws into the middle of the membrane and pick it all up at once, one section at a time. A little dirt is okay, and sticky is okay. The glue will still adhere to it just fine if it’s sticky, you just don’t want it caked it dirt. If you try to sand it, it’s going to be a big pain, and you risk compromising the sealed side of the osb (notice osb has a smooth side and a rough side-the smooth side is typically roof side and rough side is inside the ceiling)

    Great video. I havea soft spot on my roof. About 16" from the front molding. Could I cut the current membrane at 24", peel it back: replace the plywood, and use eternal bond to repair the cut in the membrane? Thoughts?

    • @fallenintocamping
      @fallenintocamping  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I would not do that. Eternabond is terrible, and there’s not really a good way to join a spot that’s been cut from the roof. If you don’t want to replace the whole membrane, I would suggest peeling it back and regluing after. It won’t look particularly pretty but it’s better than having a seam on your roof.

    • @fallenintocamping
      @fallenintocamping  4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Most RVs are a true 8ft across, so the 8’ 5” leaves enough room for the overhang on the sides. If you’ve measured and yours is 102” then I’d order the 9’ 5”.

    • @fallenintocamping

    • @fallenintocamping
      @fallenintocamping  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I use R-13. Half sheet for walls, full sheet for ceiling. I don’t like foam insulation (unless it’s in a horse trailer) because the R value is so low.

    I was told you need to put new wood over the old wood so the glue for the TPO will adhere. They said the glue needs to soak into the wood and the glue doesn’t stick to old glue. So I am told I need to put a underlayment over the old wood. Thoughts?

      Never heard of that before. Even the RV techs that I know don’t replace the decking unless it’s rotten. Seems like extra unnecessary work to me, but each person can have their own preference on how it’s done.

      You can in a bind, but it’s not ideal. The window really needs to be totally flush with the fiberglass. I use the dicor foam core kit. I have it linked in my amazon lists. I does do 6-8 windows which is why it’s so expensive. But if you have one starting to leak, chances are you need to check the other windows too

    What about the air pockets in the membrane? Will they disappear?

    • @fallenintocamping
      @fallenintocamping  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes they will. When I lay the membrane down sometimes there’s bubbles, then I go back and work them out after the whole membrane is down and the roof is tacky. It’s tougher when it’s not 70+ degrees because the glue dosent dry as quick, but it does give you extra time to work out any bubbles that form
