I appreciate you saying that you shouldn't always go for the bigger size or blindly follow the distance guides. I bought a 65" since it's what was recommended for my room but when the tv arrived it was just massive. It was great for gaming, but watching movies was a pain, I had to constantly move my eyes across the screen to follow the action, and general tv shows just felt terrible.
After consulting gurus online who kept parroting that I would get used to it and soon would be wanting to go even bigger, I waited almost to the end of the 2 week return period.
In the end I sent it back and replaced it with a 55", and couldn't be happier, so thanks for being a voice of reason in a sea of madness.

Great video! Agree pretty much with everything you said. Just wanted to toss in one more thing that is worth considering if deciding between OLED or LED backlit LCD that no one ever mentions, probably because all of these reviewers get new TVs often.
That consideration is, How long do you plan to keep the TV? If you want it to last as long as possible, LCD is still the way to go. Why? Because OLED TVs naturally DIM, and the colour accuracy fades over time. This is expected behavior and unavoidable, as the organic compounds used to produce them are organic, and thus degrade naturally with age. So an OLED may look stunning for a few years. But, if you keep your TVs for 10 years, that OLED is not going to look as good as the day you bought is in the latter half of that time.
If you get a new TV every say 3-5 years, OLED is an awesome choice. If you get a new TV every 7-10 years, that LED Backlit LCD will still look as bright and colour accurate as the day you bought it in 10 years.
Just something else that is worth mentioning more often in the debate between OLED and LCD that I almost never hear anyone bring up. But for most people that don't buy a new TV until the one they have stops working, or just don't want to upgrade every few years to get the latest and greatest, it's a valid consideration

@@vipermikes5547 I like it, in terms of picture quality, it's a step up from my 2018 75" LG. It has a 120hz panel and the colors seems to be sharper.
The only issue is clouding on uniform color backgrounds, for example when watching ice hockey and the camera pans really fast, you can see the different light zones on the tv, not a huge deal, and by adjusting the settings you can minimize this effect.
For the price I paid I'm satisfied. I didn't want to spend $600 - $1000 more for something with better PQ

Thanks for the Advice, I had an LG LCD TV but recently the colour blue started to overpower IT, I had a 6 year warranty, so I contacted the store I originally got it from as it was still under the warranty,
I was told a part needed to be replaced that the would Contact the manufactures about it, 2 months later the store calls me up to tell me the Manufacturers no longer make the part for the TV anymore and it's no longer stored in there warehouse so they voided my TV and gave me store credit for $100 less than I originally got it to put it towards a new TV
So I watched your videos, HDTV test and some others, I had planned to get the LG CX then I heard about the C1 and it's reduced price, then the G1 then I fixed my mind on the LG G1 as it would be my very 1st OLED TV and because I heard the screen was slightly brighter, the Store manager offers me a 55 inch G1 for $1,000 and that's with this store credit for my previous TV, manager's discount and Black Friday Discount, also on top of that another 6 year warranty plus what's left of my previous 6 year warranty, making it a grand total of an 8 year warranty
So I thought if I'll have a TV with an 8 year warranty, I might as well get the G1,, a premium TV, I could have got a 65 inch C1 for slightly more but I thought pull the trigger, I will watch regular TV channels, play my PS5 games and watch my 4K Blu-Rays on it for the next 8 years

I'm getting a 65" QLED Samsung Q80A. I need to replace an older tv in the living room which will be the main tv in the household and I just can't afford a comparably sized OLED. Directly facing the tv at the back of the room is a sliding glass door which brings in plenty of light so in addition to cost, QLED seems the logical choice. I was debating between the Q80A & Q70A and ultimately decided that as long as I'm spending $1k+ the extra $100 for the Q80A will buy me better sound and slightly better picture quality, two upgrades that definitely seem worth the additional cost.

Sadly I am staying away from OLED's. Our LG has incredibly bad burn in's from on the reds. We can see the Netflix logo, TH-cam logo, other logos, and now also have a band going across the bottom of the TV. The TV is about 5 years old and we started getting these burns in at the 2 year mark and it became more rapid after that. When the screen is displaying cool/blue colours, we don't see the red burn ins but always see the band. Our yellows are also destroyed. The center of the screen is neon/lime green when watching the Simpson's (referring to the characters skin colours) and then near the borders of the screen its more true warm-yellow SImpson's colours. Sorry for the very unprofessional explanation, haha. Only discovered recently that LG had to offer free repairs on screens for a while (not anymore) because the issue affected so many purchasers. thanks for the very concise, informative video!

I bought a PHILIPS 58PUS8535 today. It replaces a piece of crap LG 43UK6400PLF which I bought three years ago but the backlight is giving up on it making most of my TV have a purple tint.
I've been looking at the Philips 58PUS8535 in a local store with three months and I've saved for two months to buy it.
I was going to save the extra €200 for the 65" but I measured the wall space it would take up and compared to my 43" in a 12' X 11'. Room it seems to be huge lol. I think even the 58" may be a bit big but I'm sitting 10' away from my TV. Also I'm using a Denon DHT-S216 soundbar.

I can afford the 77 inch at 3k, but of course want the 83inch size. 2k for 6 more inches seems too much though.. then again the Sony or QN90A are around the price as the 77C1.. what would you choose? The 77 inch OLED or the 85 inch LED?

    • @Silarous
      @Silarous 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I'm stuck on this decision too. I'm upgrading from a 75" Sony x900e and want a bigger TV. Going up 2" to a 77" C1 OLED just doesn't seem like much of a size upgrade and to step up to the 83" is a $2k jump in price. Especially when I see the 85" Samsung QN85A QLED that has an amazing picture and features for $2000 less.
Will I really see a $2k difference in picture quality between the 83" C1 OLED and 85" QN85A QLED? Not sure my eyes will notice. Stepping down to the 77" C1 to match the price of the 85" QLED just doesn't seem like a large upgrade in size. I definitely will notice the difference between 77" and 85". Decisions decisions....

    • @kendil22
      @kendil22 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

@@Silarous I'd start with how far away are you from the TV. If you're too close 85 isn't going to work out well. There is such a thing as too big. I own 55'' versions of the lg cx and qn90a, 77'' version of the a80j. I posted a similar thing on a different video, movies OLED and games it depends. Watching something like Tron legacy back to back on an OLED vs qn90a is jarring. That's a fairly extreme example though because of all the blacks with neon type lighting on their costumes and vehicles. The qn90a either leaves out detail to try and avoid blooming or the blacks are a bit grey in that movie. Again extreme example because the lighting in the movie is bonkers. In fast paced bright games like COD:MW I prefer the qn90a,I pickup targets easier because they stand out better. Sounds counter intuitive because OLED is supposed to be the contrast king, but the brighter the colors the easier I spot them. Also I'm not roaming around staring at fine details, I'm trying to shoot goobers on the other team and avoid being shot myself. I don't have time to stop and do a pixel by pixel check that some of these weirdos do :) . In Star Citizen I prefer the OLED because you know, space is dark and OLEDs rule in that area. But Star Citizen is the only game I really play that I need that level of absolute black so I spend more time pc gaming on the qn90a and most of my time tv and movie watching on my OLEDs. Also in a dark room the oleds are MUCH easier on my eyes. The samsung can double as a room light if the bulb ever burns out, but there are times on a really sunny day I wish my OLED got just a bit brighter.
So all to say for $2k difference I'd get the Samsung. You will NOT get some magical screen quality upgrade with it for that price with OLED. Will it look better, sometimes yes and sometimes no depending on content. It's a versatile tv that will do what you need it on all fronts, but not necessarily be the best at everything. Just make sure you check the panel on the Samsung for DSE, dead pixels, etc and return it for another one if it's not up to snuff(same for the LG). But if you're under say 10-12ft from the tv, I'd seriously consider the 77'' OLED unless you play FIFA 12 hours a day. Frankly I think some people just like to bitch and want to argue they're right and see people to agree with them with these LED\OLED wars. They're both good with their own strengths. Get the one that works for you the most. I used to be no a no OLED for pc because of burn in, now I'm a "depends what I'm playing".

@@kendil22 thanks for the detailed reply! I ended up going with the 85" QN90A. It went on sale for $3300 and made the decision much easier! It is going in my main living area which is a large room. 75" feels small in there to be honest. It's a pretty bright room too.
Now I'm just deciding on a sound bar upgrade to go with it. Currently running a Sony ST5000 and want some thing with some rear speakers as well. Possibly the new Sony HT A7000 with sub and surround speakers. Hearing mixed reviews on it though.

@@Silarous At the 85ish size, I don't think there's an OLED out there that competes against the qn90a for quality and value. When they are close in price you might have to think it over, but they aren't and the OLEDs just aren't worth 1-2k more. I'm having a bit of a speaker conundrum myself. My sound work great but it's relatively cheap considering the 3k I spent on my tv and I can do better.

Decided on and received 77a80j about a week ago. I was concerned about overall screen brightness during the day and there is no problem. Had been used to lcd and this oled actually cuts thru my room conditions better. I prefer to see into shadow shades of darkness and the tv adjustments for this makes it happen. I would recommend this oled for rooms that have up to above normal light conditions.

Deciding between a 65 inch Sony X90j or 65 inch C1. Currently a $600 difference . Tv is going in family room above a fireplace . There is windows but they do have shutters. Is the $600 extra worth it?

Hey Brandon, im in the market for an oled and am between the a80j and the c1. Im big on sound quality so im leaning more towards the sony, but I cant seem to find a way to hook up just a subwoofer to either one of these tvs. Sony claims that you can connect a sub through the headphone jack and switch to subwoofer output in settings, however it does not seem to work when i try that both at the store or at home on my Sony XBR-X900B. Is it even possible to connect just a subwoofer to a tv? I would rather not have to get a soundbar for a tv with good speakers. I cant seem to find any solutions. Any thoughts on how i could ad a sub to the a80j?

Just bought a 65” Sony OLED XBR65A8H at Best Buy (great sale going on right now - $700 off) after hearing your recommendations. They are great by the way. My husband is picking it up tomorrow. Can’t wait to see the difference. We’ve had a Samsung 55” for a few years now and it has recently started showing purple spots in the picture hence the new tv. I read some of the reviews on Best Buy for this tv and most everyone is raving about it. I’m sure we won’t be disappointed. Thanks again! I do have one question though, what do we do with our old TVs? I guess I’ll google it. 🙂

85" Sony A85J was on the top of my list, but the 85" Sony X91J is only about 20% more money and has local dimming - so I think it's worth the extra $400. What do think ? Another great review - thanks Holmes..

Just wanted to add that I've recently upgraded from my plasma TV which had a 100hz refresh rate everything was smooth with zero judder, quite disappointed in these modern LED TVs with regards to refresh rate, apart from that they are great though.

Brandon, thanks for all the great reviews. Currently building a house and am putting a 65 inch A80J in the bedroom and also one in the first floor den. I have a pretty big open wall in the basement entertainment room (no windows) and I’m debating between the 77 inch A80J or the 85 inch X95J (with all the TVs I’m buying I don’t have the budget to go with the 83 inch A90J). Which is the better option for the entertainment room? I know it’s the standard size vs picture debate. It’s mostly going to be for sports and movies with occasional Xbox series X.
    Thanks!

Hi there, at present I have a 85” Sony tv which is two years old and last week I broke the screen, so now looking for a new tv, I know you like OLed TV’s but they only go to 83” and not sure if I wand to drop down in size?, I was looking at the Lg C1 but they still have the old panel and th Lg G1 only goes to 77” until next year, so the only TV’s left to me is the Samsung a800 or the Sony X95, or the ultra high TV’s like the Sony Z series or Samsung a900 which I don’t think are worth the money, so what would recommend thanks Oz

question: im torn between a 65" C1 or a 75/77". Ofc if I buy the bigger one it will be a lower model, not the C1. Should I go for a less expensive model at 75" or should I stick to the amazing C1? And if you think bigger size is better, which TV would be the ideal one?
my viewing distance is about 3.8 meters.

Another reviewer I just watched said the A80J, I think that's right, is the choppiest TV on the market. He actually picked it out at best buy and started laughing that he knew right away it was the A80J by how bad it was. I went with the TCL 65" for $699. No need to spend $1699 for a picture I can't tell the difference.
