    People forget when they see 'old cars' cruising along slowly on paved streets and highways, that these cars were designed to go down dirt roads and farm tracks and through deep mud in places where there would be no assistance if you got stuck.
    They're not fast, but still damn capable at what they were designed for.

    • @WitchKing-Of-Angmar
      @WitchKing-Of-Angmar 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Actually they were fast, but I'm surprised you just have a sixth sense that they weren't by your never researched information. Make sure you tell future generations their car history. We depend on you, and do it correctly.
      And do keep in mind the 390 car makes in America in 1910.

      @@PiDsPagePrototypes Why, everyone makes everything to do with the 1910s and 1920s only about the Model T. It's a hog of the era, and is one of the worst looking vehicles, poorly built, and made in excess to make a message of expense via quantity over expensive quality. No one ever learns about anything else because of the Ford impression and so people mention this vehicle like it's the only one.

    Back in maybe early 1990s I encountered a group of men over several days in Death Valley who were reenactors…they were all in campaign-type gear (think WW1 uniforms with smokey bear hats), had vintage camping gear including big canvas military tents with pot belly stoves, carried water in canvas bags, and they were traversing the desert in several Model Ts…all were Fords and they had open touring cars like this, some flatbed trucks and an estate wagon too. They had numerous spare wheels (wood spokes) loaded on the trucks too. They were doing some incredible off-roading in their Ts and their camp set-ups were a marvel.

      And it slashes your throat when you go through the windshield, and douses you with gasoline when the fuel tank under your seat ruptures, and is dangerously difficult to drive, and can drive away on it's own if you fall out, and if it's an early model it can't stop.
      But hey you can take the engine out and use it as a stationary engine, that was a nice feature that saw tons of use.

    For extreme winter conditions they also made tracks that could go on the drive wheels and skis for the front. They can literally go places that no modern road vehicle can.
    These cars were also extraordinarily affordable by average working people, by 1924 the price had gone from $800 down to $260 for a new Model T.

    So my family has had a 1923 model T in the family for close to 80 years. We live on an island. Sometimes that island would get flooded at the narrow point and my dad would often go around our side of the island and pick upladies to take them across the flooded area in the model T to the store and back. It was the only vehicle tall enough to be able to go through the water without damage. He did that for quite a few years when I was a kid before they rebuilt the wall that stopped the yearly flooding.

    Very good, I love it. My Grandad told me when the model T ford first came out it had a design flaw where it could not go up hills because the gravity fed fuel from the tank, the tank wasn't high up enough so when it went to drive up a hill the fuel could not get to the carburettor and would quickly stall. I don't know if this is 100% true as my grandad did sometimes like to tell a story, if you know what I mean. I did think this was possible though. Old cars like that where built during a time when most roads where still dirt and didn’t have good quality so they had to make old cars as tough as possible. They don’t built cars capable of stuff like that anymore unfortunately because most roads are paved and even the dirt ones are more maintained then back in the day. I wish cars where still made to be able to withstand water like that would make flood season much easier.

      True, except for 5x mpg; a T averaged around 30mpg, which isn’t awful even these days.

    @Average Reviews I wasn’t back peddling , do you work in the motor trade? It surprises me about the problems you hear about with modern cars , it does make me wonder . How an older car works so well ? Obviously not having fitted with a starter motor . But it’s still basic engineering at its best . Maybe we can agree to disagree on this subject ?
