God I wish both David's would do a collab Maybe an album being that both love music and even a small role on a film for Byrne, kind of the role Lynch gave to Bowie in Fire Walk With Me
Better late than never. Just recently got some interest in St Vincent's music. She's a true artist, a creator. Back in 2024: Still one of the best songs of the last twenty years. It aged well.
I love how David Byrne is like this old man now but he's still got the balls to wiggle his tushie and do a little dance on the side of the road after he's struck a woman unconscious by drunken driving. Hands of a government man.
Who be my valentine Who lift this heavy load Who share this taxicab Who wants to climb aboard Who is an honest man? Who is an honest man? Who held a dying soldier? Far from his own hometown Carry these men and women Who get lost when the Sun goes down Who is an honest man? Who is an honest man? Who walks this dusty road Who always proves her way Who's this?! Inside of me Who made a big mistake Who sees these constellations Seen in those spinning round Counting these men and women Who get lost when the Sun goes down Who is an honest man? Who is an honest man? With a graceful motion she sat down slowly Drank a cup of coffee and she fold her laundry She begins to tell us all her life story All around the table, everybody's staring Who shouts out hallelujah Who's gonna sing out loud Carry these men and women Who get lost when the Sun goes down
Oh well, it would make sense, since at some point in the video it almost looks as though he was thinking: "Wait... this is not my car! This is not my beautiful wife! How did I get here?!"
David Byrne has lost nothing with age. I am glad that St. Vincent, a young singer, appreciates his genius and both could bring their uniqueness into one song and video. My hope in the younger generation has been strengthened if they can recognize someone as special as Mr. Byrne.
And someone as special as Ms. Clark. Both bring something quite unique to this video. This video builds a bridge, and a bridge is supported by both ends.
I find that Artsy types seem to have a better grasp of where people are in their time of life. It's how our number is drawn. Some of us our 70 and some of us are 25. They are a lot cooler.
This song gets better and better with each listening. I love the mix between the classical Talking Heads song structure and beautiful, surprising bit sang by St.Vincent. As a longtime TH fan, I thought DB could not reach such heights anymore. Boy, was I wrong!
You can clearly hear elements of each Byrne and St Vincent... I think so much so, that either one could release this as their own track... yet I love how their sounds blend seamlessly. Great collab.
Shahn78 - David Byrne was the vocalist for the Talking Heads, one of the most influential & fabulous New Wave groups in the late 70s & early 80s. His voice is perfectly suited to that genre, and is perfectly suited to the odd experimental projects he has been involved with since. He embraces & uses the uniqueness of his voice. Not everyone wants to AutoTune themselves into perfect pitch.
I'm in love with David Byrne, always have been. How can he continue to get sexier and more and more briliant? The two of them pairing up is a dream come true. Annie, oh so talented. Together: brilliance, intelligence, wit and freaking TALENT!
St. Vincent is so lucky to be playing with David Byrne. As a young singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist myself, I gotta say, I'm kind of jealous.
I’d say they’re equally luckily. She is quirky, off, and creative in just the way that makes the collaboration possible. Plus having anyone who can shred like Annie on guitar doing an album with you, is a gift
Mon Dieu que ces voix existent merveilleusement bien ensemble, début ,tous deux, d'un bout de route, voix mélangées , délicieux ! Belle rencontre au service de l'art, mais qu'est-ce que la musique ??
YAHOO!! That's me playing the old homeless guy!! What a fun video to be in and watch! Kudos to director Martin de Thurah and the always amazing David Bryne and Annie Clark. Look for Peter Iasillo, Jr. on IMDB.
There is something mesmerizing about this video. Saw it at the gym a couple of times of times on the treadmill, couldn't hear the music but could see the vid. Not sure what?
Really enjoy David Byrne. This is one man who is not afraid to try and do new aspects of music and not care in the least if it sells a million copies or ten copies. That is an advantage of owning your own record label and having enough money to last a lifetime!! And his concerts do still sell out a lot so someone still enjoys what he does. Go David!!
I agree, and a little vice-versa. 😉 It was so heartbreaking losing Bowie this year, I couldn't imagine losing my other favorite David. Both "kings of the weird frontier"...both unique and otherworldly, in my opinion!
First time listening to this song, it was as if the brass was electrifying my brains and Byrne's voice was flowing through the circuits. In other words, this song is fucking addictively awesome #plainandsimple
I used to be a St. Vincent Fanatic, and David Byrne got way into my mind, life after I discovered him through Red Hot's Dark Was The Night. Then I saw them interview on The Colbert Report, and he persistently tried to classify them as affected. I haven't been able to enjoy any of the three since. I think my affinity for these two is returning though, and it's a tremendous relief.
I started laughing as soon as Annie started singing and then said 'Oh my god, it's so good!' and I didn't even mean to say it. It's a sign of really good music
Anyone else think that David Byrne probably put him going WHO'S THIS?! at 1:39 As his ring tone or better yet his answering machine message, as I know I would lol
What a lot of people don't realize is that this isn't a music video. The camera just followed David Byrne on an average Tuesday (for him).
It's a rare thing that a comment genuinely makes me laugh, loved that haha
Lol !
lol!
+Daniel Bradford True story.
well played
i'm so relieved he still dances like that, you have no idea
Hahaha me too!
he cant dance any other way
same as he ever was.
Thanks, uh, Charles Manson?
Yes!!
These two go together like peanut butter and jelly. The whole album is delightful.
Ikr!, we need more asap!.
One of my all time favourite albums. Like you said....they just go together so well.
Just another regular day for Mr. Byrne and Ms. Clark... same as it ever was
And the days? Well, the best I can reckon is that they pretty much just go by.
David Byrne is a national treasure.
Ham Star no - he's a World Heritage Site
Except he didn't need nick cage to find him. =)
In Scotland.
St Vincent is.
@@Just.Jo.Music.331 I would watch that movie
David Byrne's entire persona and body of work is almost like the weirdest mix of David Lynch and Mr. Rogers.
You know this was perfect.
Yess
God I wish both David's would do a collab
Maybe an album being that both love music and even a small role on a film for Byrne, kind of the role Lynch gave to Bowie in Fire Walk With Me
He never struck her you know...lol
Well put man
Better late than never. Just recently got some interest in St Vincent's music. She's a true artist, a creator.
Back in 2024: Still one of the best songs of the last twenty years. It aged well.
That happpened to me in 2018.
She's truly a great musician/artist.
i think most of her OG fans have bailed - ya know the ones from ‘07. I found her ‘14 so this album was catch up for me too.
Her signature guitar is epic, too. I played one once.
Check out St. Vincent's inspiration, P.J. Harvey.
@@andyb811 Already a fan.
David Byrne just being David Byrne
+Josh Reimer David Byrne showing off he has nicer hips than a woman half his age.
+Bhazor same as it ever was
+Bhazor not necessarily, a bad thing😉
Absolutely!
This is too surreal, I still can't believe two of my favorite artists ever actually did an album together
What upsets me the most is the fact that I'm only now hearing of this David Byrne-St. Vincent collaboration.
+ThisisJokyl989 That'll teach you to follow Taylor Swift on Twitter. She distracted you from good music with shiny objects.
+ThisisJokyl989 I know. Love the both of them, so it's great to see them together . Oh, better late than never.
+Daniel Bradford XD
What's worse is me having the same reaction 2 years later.
Me three and it's two years later. I love this.
Glad to see David Byrne at this stage is still being as weird as ever, don't ever change
David and St Vincent are like two aliens stuck on earth who find eachoter and just decide to pure vibe
0:57
"Follow my lead," -Byrne
"I, uh...okay"- St. Vincent
I love how David Byrne is like this old man now but he's still got the balls to wiggle his tushie and do a little dance on the side of the road after he's struck a woman unconscious by drunken driving. Hands of a government man.
Who be my valentine

Carry these men and women

Who's this?! Inside of me
Who made a big mistake
Who sees these constellations
Seen in those spinning round
Counting these men and women
Who get lost when the Sun goes down
Who is an honest man?
Who is an honest man?
With a graceful motion she sat down slowly
Drank a cup of coffee and she fold her laundry
She begins to tell us all her life story
All around the table, everybody's staring
Who shouts out hallelujah
Who's gonna sing out loud
Carry these men and women
Who get lost when the Sun goes down
Who always pulls her weight?
Beautiful thanks
David Byrne can still Kick ass after all These years. Annie Clark and David Byrne make a damn good mix. He almost did a "Once in a lifetime dance"
Oh well, it would make sense, since at some point in the video it almost looks as though he was thinking: "Wait... this is not my car! This is not my beautiful wife! How did I get here?!"

The two of them seem such a ridiculously good fit together musically I'm surprise this didn't happen earlier.
This song gets better and better with each listening. I love the mix between the classical Talking Heads song structure and beautiful, surprising bit sang by St.Vincent. As a longtime TH fan, I thought DB could not reach such heights anymore. Boy, was I wrong!
David Bryne's reaction, at 2:44, when you start to tell him your life story.
You can clearly hear elements of each Byrne and St Vincent... I think so much so, that either one could release this as their own track... yet I love how their sounds blend seamlessly. Great collab.
Needs to be made in to a feature-length David Lynch movie.
you mean this isn't the trailer?
+mummyjohn Yep. Just add fire, flashing light and a weird midget and you got it!
I almost thought this was directed by Lynch until I saw who actually directed.
yeah, that would be a great collaboration. Sound track by byrne, film by Lynch. Cameos for both.
Best comment

I really feel like she's his long lost daughter, or they came from the same planet somewhere haha
MoonBarrett hahaha, oh my god, i thought the same thing, lol!
They have the same sense of music and it is a sense of music that nobody else really understands, but certainly likes!
i did not pay much attention to it at first, but hell, i have listened to it at least 40 times already
Shinrin Yoku totally and I'm hooked
Um, how am I just finding this now - a whole 10 years later, this is amazing
No one can dance with such effortless cool like Byrne :D
I was introduced to St. Vincent's music by David Byrne. Nex thing, I was listening to her debut album 'Marry Me'.
I'm in love with David Byrne, always have been. How can he continue to get sexier and more and more briliant? The two of them pairing up is a dream come true. Annie, oh so talented. Together: brilliance, intelligence, wit and freaking TALENT!

I'm jealous of David Byrne.
Do you got any songs out there to listen to?
I wish he had played with you instead
absolutely David Byrne has always pulled no punched. Loved Talking Heads since the 80;s thats all i listened to.
I’d say they’re equally luckily.
She is quirky, off, and creative in just the way that makes the collaboration possible. Plus having anyone who can shred like Annie on guitar doing an album with you, is a gift
An early 70’s AMC Matador station wagon fits both of them perfect. That car is rare as hell just like the video.Masterpiece! Killer tune!
One of the greatest songs made in the last 10 years.
Her voice is beautiful! And I love David's dancing lol
David Byrne and St. Vincent are two treasures.
This completely blew my mind the first time i saw and heard this video. Love them both!
Wow, David Byrne is getting old... And he's still awesome.
A song and video which make you feel good to be alive despite our times being so crazy. Thanks, David and Annie.
Mon Dieu que ces voix existent merveilleusement bien ensemble, début ,tous deux, d'un bout de route, voix mélangées , délicieux !
Belle rencontre au service de l'art, mais qu'est-ce que la musique ??
St Vincent: an incredible singer and musician.
St. Vincents and david byrnes voices compliment each other so well and that sexy sax riff to top it all off, yumyum
This song seems to often get forgotten but I think it’s a 10 ten David Byrne song on par with a lot of the best talking heads songs
There are few things that brighten my morning more than watching David Byrne dance.
How have I never heard of this until now???
me too
collaborative songwriting at its best 🔥🔥🔥
Love that background guitar tone at 1:30.
WTF!!! This is brilliant. Okay, so it's official this dude is from another planet and quite possibly the smartest and most creative person in music.
I love her.... Can't stop repeating all her songs... love her opinions and thoughts..
He's definitely a top high riding musical genius of New Wave music of The 80's
This lady is a gift.
12 years later and I'm still addicted to screaming "who? who?" everytime I hear this song!!!
I love both artists here so i think this is amazing! Annies beautiful voice with some Byrne funk! Im lovin' it.
1:31 damn David was hotboxing the shit outta that car
Good ol Byrne, still got those moves.
YAHOO!! That's me playing the old homeless guy!! What a fun video to be in and watch! Kudos to director Martin de Thurah and the always amazing David Bryne and Annie Clark. Look for Peter Iasillo, Jr. on IMDB.
Love love love love! David Byrne & St Vincent complement each other well, & the brass section is oddly appropriate... the whole album is great :)
This song appears in my dreams. So good!
There is something mesmerizing about this video. Saw it at the gym a couple of times of times on the treadmill, couldn't hear the music but could see the vid. Not sure what?
David always looks spiffy. I love this song as well. His music is always multilayered.
Journalist: "Annie, does David Byrne influence your music?"
St. Vincent: "Who?"
I simply love this.
I adore this and I'm not sure I even really understand why.
Quirky goodness personified. Can't wait to see them in Milwaukee.
Two cool talented people doing a great song!~! Thanks for posting!!
Just saw these guys in concert at the Greek. If you can't a chance, don't miss it. One of the best I've ever seen.
Who's hearing of this project the first time in 2024?!?
The bad ass mojo in this song is top-chef’d. Horns, odd rhythm, lyrics, melody, dancing, and video make for many replays.
Go David!!
when david passes away in time , he wont be easily forgotten
David Bowie's music always reminds me of David Byrne.
I agree, and a little vice-versa. 😉
It was so heartbreaking losing Bowie this year, I couldn't imagine losing my other favorite David. Both "kings of the weird frontier"...both unique and otherworldly, in my opinion!
Shame they never collaborated before Bowie was lost. Love you David Byrne
David Byrne does is again....genius
These two are Magic!! together. Then need to do another album and tour. Live shows are so Good, everyone, including musicians are part of the show..
David Byrne still got it man ! Look at those moves !
have David Byrne and David Lynch ever met? they could be brothers!
***** Thanks very much for the facts chart,
gave me chills reading it.
OMG! A match made in heaven!!
two of the best musical/visual artists of our time
What a great swing!! I love how you dance David!!
My favorite St. Vincent song. Would love to see more collabs with David.
First time listening to this song, it was as if the brass was electrifying my brains and Byrne's voice was flowing through the circuits. In other words, this song is fucking addictively awesome #plainandsimple
David Byrne & St Vincent .... This is art ..pioneers ....just great...
"Mr. Bryne, I think I'm losing feeling in my left arm!"
"Dance it off son, dance it off"
He did it again. Good to hear David Byrne has not run out of creativity.
This song is brilliant.
His new book How Music Works, is a great read!
Feel the Byrne!
He's still got the moves even now. Brilliant man. And St. Vincent is a hottie too ;)
D.Byrne looks like a cross between David Bowie and Mr. Rogers..!! cool song and vid tho'!!
cant stop listening to this one, david and anni !
Watching this, I'm thinking a meeting of the Davids Byrne and Lynch would be epic, to say the least.
David Byrne is a Genius
The only thing that doesn't make an old man dancing like that look completely wrong is that that old man is David Byrne.
David Byrne has most carefree melodies EVER.
Hmm David Byrne ... his voice is like Ratatouille, takes you straight back home every time ...
Tanto David Byrne como Annie Clarke destacan más la parte visual en sus canciones. Bien.
Stop Making Sense! David Byrne - Annie Clark - Same As It Ever Was! Thank you 4AD!;)
I started laughing as soon as Annie started singing and then said 'Oh my god, it's so good!' and I didn't even mean to say it.
It's a sign of really good music
If there were ever two musician's who should collaborate, it is definitely these two.
Anyone else think that David Byrne probably put him going WHO'S THIS?! at 1:39 As his ring tone or better yet his answering machine message, as I know I would lol
BRILLIANT!
HAPPY to dance with you both collaborative ARTISTS XXXX
Excelente dúo dando cátedra de música con esta superior canción, pasando desde el góspel, rock, new wave etc.
Not running 'round the stage as in performing in Stop Making Sense
It's a very nice surprise. Thks 4AD for keeping up yours standards
