Solid explanation IMO... It was cut short above, but Michael also asked Marlo if he wanted the ring - to which Marlo replied "nah, you keep it"... It was a great move by Michael as he gained respect two-fold here by first having that ring, to begin with, then by offering it to Marlo, the Boss, because he liked it (Michael showing Marlo respect, but not out of fear)... Marlo deserves some respect too considering he didn't want the ring that way and believed Michael was now the true owner of that ring based on your above explination.
"Boy you got me confused with a man who repeats himself". "Man money ain't got no owners, only spenders" The Wire have more gangsta lines than any other movie or any show because it was natural not just tough talk for no reason.
Or the time he walks intoto prop Joe's store with a clock and when asked what's wrong with it he says " it ran outta time" then points a desert eagle to his face lol
To those not understanding why Marlo didn't take the ring from Micheal. Because the ring was just a ring, him taking it from Andre not because he 'wanted a ring,' but as a show of his dominance, same reason he stole candy. When he sees Micheal has it, he thinks this guy was able to get the ring from Omar (or so he thinks). And he can see he has something more valuable than the ring, he has Micheal.
Marlo took the ring from Old Face Andre because Marlo noticed that Omar would of took the ring along with the dope(which Omar eventually does from Marlo). Andre's ring was protected better than Marlo's dope in Marlo's eyes. When Omar came in the store, Andre hid the ring from Omar but gave Omar the dope.
My friend was at a bar once talking about the wire with a girl. She said she knew more about the show then anyone. He texted me with a question to stump her. I said for him to ask about the chain of custody for this ring throughout season 4. Stumped her

True, but it also shows how cold he was. He planned, took what he wanted, and stuck to his own script. It was actually smart not really killing people. Yeah, he felt the heat from dealers when he was locked up or being elusive on the streets, but he really didn't have to worry about police if he didn't kill. He never had to worry about an arrest where the cop says his charge is the theft of 4 G-packs 🥴🤣
The Ring's arc (and value to a certain extent) was to be taken against the owner's will. When Mike offered the ring to Marlo; there's nothing to be gained except a shiny trinket from an employee.
Mike: takes off shirt Marlo: MY PRECIOUS!!! Mike: you want it? Marlo: the precious must be taken away. it cannot be offered Mike: Silently thinking ( wtf )

Namond was happy to harmlessly toss paint on Walker from behind a mask, but wouldn't try to assert his own power/influence, since he doesn't have much; it's his father's name that's gotten him where he is. For Mike, though, it would be crazy NOT to take the ring, since the exchange to him wasn't about a simple prank, it was about power, telling walker: "you can fuck with us and break our fingers, and THINK you have power, but these are our streets, and you don't.
Weird, that kinda turned into an english paper before I realized it. Hope someone enjoys reading this at least.

Marlo gained respect for mike because he thinkin mike took it from Omar . Who we all know name hold weight
i would read that buuuuuuuuuut
Good analysis
Solid explanation IMO... It was cut short above, but Michael also asked Marlo if he wanted the ring - to which Marlo replied "nah, you keep it"... It was a great move by Michael as he gained respect two-fold here by first having that ring, to begin with, then by offering it to Marlo, the Boss, because he liked it (Michael showing Marlo respect, but not out of fear)... Marlo deserves some respect too considering he didn't want the ring that way and believed Michael was now the true owner of that ring based on your above explination.
Excellent thesis.
"Boy you got me confused with a man who repeats himself".
"Man money ain't got no owners, only spenders"
The Wire have more gangsta lines than any other movie or any show because it was natural not just tough talk for no reason.
Or the time he walks intoto prop Joe's store with a clock and when asked what's wrong with it he says " it ran outta time" then points a desert eagle to his face lol
The entire Ring arch was brilliant writing
To those not understanding why Marlo didn't take the ring from Micheal. Because the ring was just a ring, him taking it from Andre not because he 'wanted a ring,' but as a show of his dominance, same reason he stole candy. When he sees Micheal has it, he thinks this guy was able to get the ring from Omar (or so he thinks). And he can see he has something more valuable than the ring, he has Micheal.
Robbing the ring off the finger of a cop is just as impressive as taking it from Omar, if not even more impressive.
MiracleWorldTV Omar was a lot more formidable than that punk ass cop.
Probability of Chris successfully removing the ring from Andre's finger: *100%*
I dont know bout cards but uh, i think these 45s beat a full house......lol. Boy whoever the writers were for this show deserves an Academy nod....
Dennis Lehane. Wrote Gone Baby Gone,Mystic River and shutter Island
Same actor as Chalky White: Nickel 1911s
He was listening outside the door if you pay attention marlo says he has a full house before Omar enters
My friend was at a bar once talking about the wire with a girl. She said she knew more about the show then anyone. He texted me with a question to stump her. I said for him to ask about the chain of custody for this ring throughout season 4. Stumped her
The fact I know this off the top. Loool

Because it was stolen.

I love how these dudes thought Michael took it from Omar.
Nah they kno he didn’t take it from him .. they was prolly thinking nahhh
nah thats not what they thought, they thought michael had the ability to morph himself into any shape or form and that he used that power to commit heinous crimes. they thought michael had morphed into the body of omar and then robbed marlo at the card game. they didnt voice their suspicion tho out of fear of looking stupid if their guess was wrong so they let it slide
“It’s not over” Omar should have handled him right then and there
True, but it also shows how cold he was.

Ha interesting point.
Mike: takes off shirt
Marlo: MY PRECIOUS!!!
Mike: you want it?
Marlo: the precious must be taken away. it cannot be offered
Mike: Silently thinking ( wtf )

Should've added the scene of Omar robbing Andre at the shop. Andre turned the ring backwards so Omar wouldn't steal it. The foreshadowing and irony is uncanny
I did but, they made me take it down.
Andre hiding when he knows he's gonna get robbed is a good prologue. Michael giving it away freely but getting to keep it is a good epilogue. The writing on this show was next level.
