- Tearing down our new to us 5.9 magnum v8 stroker engine we pick up used. This stoker engine might be going into white our twin turbo 5.2 magnum v8 truck which is a 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 drag truck sporting that 220,000 mile stock short block 318. Y'all should've got some W heads for the power you're trying to push, but realistically they were meant for the race blocks
I've never had a 408 but I've had several 5.9s and several 5.2s. the 5.2 in my opinion is a better motor, it's stronger, takes more of a beating, revs higher and faster. I just got a 5.9 ram sport and I'm wishing it has the 5.2 in it

Dodge used the same metal in the block itself as a nascar block at the time. They used cheaper Materials for the rotating assembly to save on cost and to save the automatic trans that couldn’t handle factory power

I would say build the 318 but that's because I'm building a 2001 318 rwd 1500 what ever happens I'm still watching every episode

Oh hell yeah!
Keep those heads on the 408, the small bore of the 318 leaves you very very little room for those big 2.02 valves, practically blocking all flow to the cylinder wall side of the intake valve

Will be interesting to see what that stock block will take HP/TQ wise before splitting. I've heard 600-700whp is about the limit before needing an aftermarket block.
Ya people said stuff about the stock short block not holding any power but this stock 318 short block held 35psi of boost lol

Push the 318 to its limit in whitie 😉. Then put the 408 in after. Its extremely interesting seeing how much boost a truck motor can handle. How much boost can the 318 handle before it lets go?

It's been a while my friend of seeing whitie, I thought of a sick idea on converting the 5.2 from twin turbskees with some sort of blower or twin screw supercharger!!
As u kno besides my love & plans to do my own turboed 5.2, I've always wanted & never seen or heard of a 5.2 nor a 5.9 magnum with a blower or twin screw supercharger!
I kno ur limited with budget but maybe a future idea or plan for a backup comp motor or drag motor!
Blowers are expensive! Lol maybe if I start selling a lot more t-shirts
@@RacingRamFam, tell u what, u happen to kno or have any ideas on what type/kind of supercharger or blowers would fit for the 5.2 or 5.9 magnums? I'd like to see if I can help possible an have an idea to look for if I happen to come across one for a steal price or fairly decent price.
Or all else fails on if can't find one or there way over budget, find a blower or supercharger an could figure one up that's similar to close to a fit and have it modified to set on a (spacer plate) more less or fab the blower/supercharger to an old intake manifold or something like that.
Anyways several ideas an theories

Idk hemis are way more technically advanced. But magnums are way cooler and I love them
