Just finding this video man, liking the Dodge content. I got a 2000 durango and im looking to procharge the 5.2. Just starting the process and im thinking about filming it.
Nah as long as it's got the trans cooler that trans will last a long ass time, the problems with these trans is overheating, some came with a trans cooler and some didn't, the ones without were all the ones with issues
This video is pretty old but I need some help from anyone who can provide advice, I’m buying one of These trucks soon and putting a turbo in it but have no idea where to start. The only options I have found are some eBay turbo or twin turbo kits. But I’m trying to have a decent project, let me know any thoughts, thanks!
@@flare_blitzyt7313absolutely, exactly what I’m doing using eBay single turbo header and fabricated the driver side (stock header) to plung in to the manifold with a vs racing 78mm turbo
Very cool. I can't believe how good it sounds. The 5.2 in my Jeep has the exact same miles too. Great engine. I have to do the intake plenum pan repair to it though, the gasket is sucked in and she's burning oil and pinging.
@@nemideergoon1844 The intake manifold has a plate bolted to the bottom of it, sealed with a gasket. The OEM gasket is thin paper and over the years, it deteriorates and gets sucked inside the manifold. And then the whole crankcase is under vacuum and it's sucking in and burning oil. There's a company that sells a kit with a new plate, bolts, and a higher quality gasket. I did the work about a year ago and it's still holding up fine.
i also have a 318 turbo and i can tell you this much, that turbo is small af i run a borgwarner s366 replica on my engine at 9 pounds and it looks way happier that that chocking turbo you choose
ive always wanted to know what my truck would sound like with a turbo! thats a sick project. mines a 97 318 2wd and ive had it since 2012 and the thing is loyal as shit. its amazing on gas with my air intake system and will always start in the cold oil pressure or not. its has loads of highway miles and has not been kept in peek shape nor has it been maintained much since ive had it. the body will fall off before the motor dies honestly it sees alot of -50. also whats the original paint for that sucker mines a cool rare dark pearl chestnut brown. only made in 97
Truck sounds amazing I have to say My Auntie gave me a 99 Dodge Ram 1500 5.2L 4X4. On Them title it just say 99 Dodge Ram 1500 V8. Took me awhile to understand that it was a 5.2 by the way it sounds it has some type of thrush exhaust system my uncle put on it years before he passed away the truck is so quiet I Crank It Up you can barely hear it running. I wasn't a fan of Dodge but one was given to me free so now I'm trying to get an understanding of this truck
I have 2 hx40's for mine!! But I have a fully built poly 318,all forged, studs, girdle and crazy heads running cut down Ls valves they have super small stems, just saving up for a super sniper, 15psi it's over 800hp
Hey man what injectors did you have in the truck when it ran 2psi ? I'm thinking about doing this to my 1992 5.2 magnum truck, it's an obd1 truck so ill have to do a computer swap to tune it but if I could get away with running untuned for a but that would be cool
Ok thanks! Keep up the content on this thing turbo 318s are just starting to get popular and this thing is a great example of a sumwhat budget and simple turbo set up. Keep it up 👍👍
you dont actually need to do a obd2 swap. ive seen people use a fmu, and a one way check valve on the map sensor. now timing wise....idk. tbh though, stock magnum ignition timing is seriously retarded from factory, so it may be ok.
Marco Briones it’s actually ran back to the engine bay after the y pipe, almost like a rear mount but it’s in the engine bay. I have an eBay turbo header I would sell tho, HMU on Instagram if you’re interested
Yes but different wiring system, yours is likely an obd1 which is more difficult to get tuned, you can fairly easily swap out your pcm and harness for a 96-98
@@Grannybang35 you'd actually be surprised how much mpg I get now that I've put a turbo on the pentastar v6 in my 69 charger. I've also added in other mods and I've tuned everything so it all functions as one continuous unit.
100% yes bro, my inner fenders are removed so I couldn’t tell you for sure but I think it’s possible just have to route it right, if you do a setup like mine you could pretty much angle the hot side to sit wherever you want it too
Sounds like it wants more timing. Spool sounds wicked
Damn love that whistle

Great idea on how you ran pipe from the y in exhaust I’ll definitely be trying this out on my 02 ram

Sounds like it has a miss need to run MSD distributor wires and good set of plugs and a good tune
Tune wasn’t dialed but it wasn’t missing, and had upgraded wires already 👌
Sounds sick! Reminds me of a 6.0 powerstroke though lol
That thing is pretty wicked, how the transmission holding up?
Just curious where did you get your turbo thinking about throwing one on my 5.9 magnum
Probably ebay. Be careful what you buy on there
2 psi seems like more of a hindrance, but sounds nice. Good job.
I wished I knew more about turbos when I read this comment. It does sound nice though.
usually its 4-6psi before you overcome the exhaust restriction
I'm excited to see how it turns out
Me too bro, won’t be long until more boost and some fun runs

What size turbo an wastage blow off and will this set up work for a 5.9?
What are you going to tune it with? Will it pass inspection?

Do you have a part number for the intake hat
I don’t bro
Was it hard to make a turbo kit for it? Been looking for one but can’t seem to find any

if you keep your eyes open on ebay, 5.2/5.9 magnum turbo manifolds show up from time to time.
What are you doing for tuning I can't find anything besides megasquirt
You need to also do ball joints top and bottom, you can tell with all the damn body rattling and shaking,

No?
Ive driven my 5.2 many many miles and have put it through hell and back and it still acts right no complaints here
Yea, no small block mopars la/magnum have some pretty bulletproof bottom ends, stronger than a factory Chevy crank
no they arent lol. just as strong as ls cranks.
The factory bottom end is pretty tough it's the heads that suck. I'll bet they're cracked unless someone has already fixed it.
Who sings the Song ?
Good oil pressure
good eye! prob needs a oil pressure sending switch-dont forget to buy the extra deep socket--its right next to the distributor
but then again his gas and temp gauge are both pinned at 0 too so it might be a fuse or wiring to the dash of the computor just isnt reading right
