Mine gave me the HEAT warning and I panicked! At that point, I realized that it was directly in the sun! I immediately took it off and put it in the fridge for a few minutes. Thankfully I received the HEAT message and I was able to deal with it.

I'm now traveling with my 128gb GO 3. 128gb is enough to record all day then I transfer all files to my iPad Pro. I have another 128gb storage for tomorrow. I'm on 7 days traveling now. So far so good, don't let 4K fools you. 2.7K is good and I can upscale to 4K if I want to. It's about the convenience and easy to use. It's about capturing your best moments in time. Battery has been good too. I have a 20,000mah power bank with me. I never run out battery.

There are others that have been an inspiration to make things better, but when it comes to products, like this one, I know that people have a hard time figuring out if the product is really so good as they portray it or not. Excellent honest breakdown. I think though that this isnt for people that want the best resolution and stats, this is meant for those that want the small size for creative ideas, like sticking it to the side of a knife while cutting food...or on your hat... it's small form factor makes it way more versatile than all other action cameras

Very informative video! I personally find the resolution from your videos (shot with the Go 3 here), to be quite satisfactory. I think that if I find that mine (from a black one I ordered, and am waiting for) isn't quite sharp enough, that I might tweak the sharpness in Final Cut a tiny bit, as well as maybe adjust contrast, etc. Actually, I will use my Go 3 and Insta360 X3 just for certain angles and things, but mainly will use my Sony a7C and RX100VA. Also, I see you like SuperDry! I bought a zippered hoodie from their main store at Regent Street in London in 2018, and the thing is still as tough and warm, and like new as when I bought it! Pricey, but worth it!

The sharpness should be fine with the Go3 and your approach to use different cameras is good. I hope that it meets your expectations. Please let us know when you get it. Thanks for your informative input! I can see that the camera can be mounted vertically or horizontally, but can you clip it to the sling of a sling bag at 45 degrees and still get proper horizontally-framed videos?
The clip can’t be rotated the way I think you want it to. If you use freeframe the horizon can be fixed in post
Great easy to follow video Otto! Most tubers talk way too fast for us novices! You are a good speed and talk good English, although I think it is not your first language! I have 2 of these cameras and they are small and easy to conceal when vlogging and not looking obvious. I also will export files to my iPhone thru the mobile app when the memory is full, and it takes about 30 minutes for 64GB. When one is full, I just switch to the other. I have had some of these issues like low resolution, but you helped me understand why that was happening because stabilization setting too high? I set it at normal now and seems better. Also, what setting is best for low light? I put the EV number higher (3.0-4.0) when it is darker outside and low (.05-1.0) when in bright sunlight. The camera also gets hot and will shut off, another reason I bought 2, to let the other one cool off! I used to stop at 7/11 and put it in where they sell bag ice for 5 minutes! Here in Thailand there are 7/11's every 100meters! Overall, it is a good camera once you learn how to use it but it does need an SD card upgrade on next model!
Thanks for your kind feedback! you are the first person that I know of to have 2 of these cameras. Very clever, I can only imagine how hot it is over there! There is not much to do with this tiny camera in low light, the most you can do is set it to 24fps, raise a bit the EV compensation as you are doing and I prefer not to have a very high ISO to avoid too much noise. In post you can bring up the shadows a bit but don't expect great results with this camera

Could I ask if you can charge the action pod separately without the small camera or not? I'm consider buying it for my long hiking trip. Because the battery life can not last all day, and I don't want to stop recording for too long time to recharge both of them, I'm thinking of charging the action pod with the portable powerbank inside the bag while I still can use the small camera to recording on the way, so the action pod will be always full and ready to charge the small camera faster ?
yeah the pod is independent, you can charge it without the camera

Wonderful video Otto & very un-biased. I have a Go2 from Gop1 & use the Go2 on my RC aircraft youtube video's as the lightweight camera attaches to various positions on each aircraft, big & small, with double sided 3M tape. The problem is I always need to check before flying as many times the camera reverts to vertical & not landscape (horizontal mode). I have no problem with duration as each flight is no more than 3 mins. but does the Go3 allow me to check the landscape mode via the monitor rather that going to the Insta360 iPhone app. to check the position?

hi, you can shoot in freeframe and as I mentioned in the video you can reframe in post. Otherwise, yes you can use the action pod to check what the camera is looking at

Probably the best review regarding the video quality options and their resolution. Thank you very much! Here's a question: At maximum resolution and bit rate, is it worth getting the 128GB version, or will I run out of battery first, before running out of memory?
I got the 128GB and I live in Thailand. This camera needs a little fore thought before use as the battery isn't the best once detached from the main unit and it also gets hot (I'm in Thailand) Its advisable to film your first clips using the main housing and then use the camera alone for pov shots or action shots. This way the battery in the camera is the last to be used.
if money is not an issue 128GB is ideal. maximum battery life as I said on the video is about 3 hours, and the maximum recording time depends on the mode that you use. Either way, battery will run out first before you can fill the memory
with 128 gb the battery will run out first.
I think the storage is an issue as we cannot use sd card. Also they needs to improve outdoor voice quality as well as external mic 🎤 options, but overall it’s compact and fine for indoor use

The storage is no issue, I've bought the 128 gb variant,
recording time is 5 hours, internal battery will not last that long anyway.
External mic - maybe that usb-c adapter to mic jack will be compatible with it, no idea,
I don't intend to use external mic anyway.
I was in the fence getting one of these but ended up removing it from list. The reason being the internal batteries. I still have the Hero 7 and managed to keep it because of the removable batteries. I dont have the resource to keep upgrading every iteration so I'll go for a camera I can fix easily.

I bought it to capture backstage of my video work. They made many improvements comparing to go3. In my opinion this camera is gopro killer, its much more portable, which allows you to use it almost everyday without any extra accesories comparing to other action cams. It would be great to edit freeform videos directly in davinci resolve without dedicated insta 360 software. It was a good decision to buy it!

I see you have a motorcycle, what is the mic performance at speeds? Catching more wind than bike engine sound? I have Insta 360 One R and it is the worst (I would say terrible) in terms of sound when riding motorcycle compared to my GoPro 5 Session and Garmin Virb 360.

I've been waiting for a real review on the Go 3. I've owned quite a few insta360 products and they never live up to my expectations.
Some of their products are very niche and don't fit every single shooting style. I'm not saying that this is the exception and I will have a much better idea in a few weeks when I use it more for a trip

I hear about the audio sync issue, but never got it. Although video is lagging 3 frames in normal mode every time stabilization is on. Seems maybe it's lagging less or not at all with newest firmware 1.0.20, but I'm not longer sure :D.
Yeah I think they fixed the audio sync with the firmware update, I've been paying attention to this issue and I haven't seen it anymore
Is it possible to connect a usb-c drive to the camera and move files from the camera to the usb drive?

how strong is the magnet though? curious if it holds strong on extreme activities like cliff jumping. 😊
There are 2 claws that hold the camera in position besides the magnet. In my opinion it will hold with no issues unless you kick one of the release buttons on the side.

Thanks Vincent. Haven’t seen you in a while around here. The mic issue could be fixed if they find out what the cause is. The other aspects mentioned like lower bitrate, low resolution playback etc, will most probably stay like that because they are helping to improve the device’s performance.

Hello Otto once again. I want to know can you connect pod to charging like with power bank connected and can it still record videos? And no over heating issues? I have only option to buy from AliExpress as Insta360 stkre doesn't offer for anyone from Pakistan to order. So am confused buying this or GoPro 11 but yes I know GoPro have better quality and battery backups and etc. Thanks one again for making this video. Waiting for reply.
Yes it will charge and record at the same time but at higher resolution it will overheat for sure. GoPro also overheats so I wouldn’t expect too much from it unless you plan to record in low resolution.
@@OttoJulian_ Yes I be recording at 1080p mostly. I already bought Isteady M6 used in brand new condition and saved $44 for which I bought 30000 30w power bank. Now simply deciding if take risk ordering Go 3 from AliExpress as black version yet not available in my country. Sure Gopro have better gear but my main issue is battery back up and audio syncing but I be rigging it with mobile so will record audio and stream via mobile as well.
Thank you for a thorough review. I was tempted by this amazing camera. However, I was not impressed by the mic recording in the wind. The lack of a radio mic therefore rules it out for me.

I loved this review, I actually bought it based on another honest review. I find this cam to be really fun compared to a GoPro. As for the Audio dysync it's only in that flow mode for long videos. if you keep your clips short it's fine. plus I use a backpack mount and it's great
Thank you so much for your feedback. Just wanted to add that my clips with bad audio sync were all between 10 and 20 seconds and the problem stars at the first second. I also have the issue on both standard 2.7K videos and using freeframe as well.

@@OttoJulian_ oh also, I use the ball joint on my back pack mount as I like being able to turn the camera left and right. I wish the quick mount wasn't so expensive and had that option to lest turn a little left and right.
@@pres002 Seems so random. As I said on my review, it only happened on that particular day (firmware was updated before using it of course). When I found out that night, I tried over and over to recreate that and I spent nearly 2 hours trying to get this issue and nothing!! I was going insane. I will take this camera to a small trip and will make sure to test the mic more. If anything happens I will report back

Thanks for the video. Did anyone try out this camera in low light conditions? i did order one so i'll know soon enough i guess. As a IPSC sport shooter the small form factor and cap mounting option convinced me to order one. i dont need 4K (i'll probably record at 1080P 60 FPS) and audio is less important. Most important to me is that its very small and has great image stabilization. I allso like that the 'body' serves as a remote to be able to see where the camera is filming.
well, how low are we talking about? This has a small sensor so it's not going to be the greatest. Since you want the image stabilization I think you should use Freeframe and bump the resolution to 1440, I don't think you will get good results at 1080p in low light conditions
@@OttoJulian_ thanks for the tip, ill play around with the record settings a bit. Most matches and our training sessions are indoor shooting ranges in Belgium, some with good lighting, some with bad lighting (for example only lights at 12m, 25m,38m and 50m. Everything in between has much lower illumination, so i'll see how it works. I mostly will be using it to spot mistakes i make to improve my shooting, so as long as i can see that its good for my usecase :)
@@OttoJulian_ It took some time playing with the settings but for low light conditions i got the best results with the following settings:
Iso: Max 3200
shutter speed 1/50
Color profile: Flat
Ultrawide

The video is grainy but for my usecase i'm happy with the results. It's very dark on some spots on the course and the results are good for such a small camera imo. The auto settings mostly resulted in to dark or to bright depending on what part of the stage i start, so i went for manual settings with variable max iso 3200 settings. Can't wait to record my first match. Thanks again for your video.

I only had the Action 2 for a short period of time and then I sold it. That's how much I liked that. If these are your 2 options, I'd go with the GO3. In a few days I will release a few videos comparing this camera to other popular ones, but as you probably guessed, there won't be an Action 2

would be ok but you need to use 1080 if you are going to be using it for extended periods of time

How strong is the magnet, can I lose the camera while running fast?
I used this on a bike with no issues, I was more concerned about the extension pole not being able to hold more than the camera itself
Does anyone know if the dji mic 2 will connect to this camera?
Not directly. You can use the DJI Mic as a standalone mic and then sync in post but that’s just about it
@@OttoJulian_ gotcha. It sounds like the in camera mic works fairly well as long as it’s not too windy. I just want to be able to walk around with it mounted on my chest and talk at the same time.

I have a 30 minute video which I am unable to export to my I-Pad Pro because it says there is insufficient memory. However there is plenty of free memory on the I-Pad. Lots of other videos have been exported to ‘Photos’ recently. Why do I get this problem?

I nearly wanna buy it but i didn't after i found out that built in mic is pretty bad.. 2ndly, i am a forgetful person.. i worry i might end up loosing it as it it too small and i might put it somewhere and totally forget about it.. I'll wait for Go Pro or Dji Action 4
I tend to forget things too haha. Yes I’ve been a bit worried about losing it while the testing continues but so far so good. Hopefully they can fix the mic issues on a firmware update

you can't record more than 20GB during battery work - that means you can download video from the camera during charging

Other issues for me include the inability to connect an external microphone and the lag on the file transfer as well as the extra steps of file transfer. It's a shame because I really want this camera. But I think that what's coming up for me is that it would not be good for what I want to use it for. Again thank you for making this video.
yeah no external mics with this camera is a big downside for many users.
So Otto, which action-camera would you use for a three camera shoot of an interview? I've been using three Galaxy S21 Ultras on monopods with double blue-tooth clip-on mics in the phones' c-ports, and then editing in Davinci, TimeBolt, and then Camtasia. Guests scoff at the camera phones. But I like the lightness of this 3-camera kit I've put together. Action cameras would keep it light. Which action camera would you use for a set-up like this?

Thank you for this critical review of the Go 3. I own the 128GB model and feel that considering the features, price, and performance it is not a great value compared to similar cameras in its price range.
Just curious...but, what cameras would you consider to be "better", that are in the same general price range AND just (or almost) as small as the Go3?
I am specifically looking for something to replace my GoPro 8 for use on top of RC boats, and on top of or inside RC cars / trucks, That's the reason I am looking for something very small, but with "very good" (or better) video quality.
Hi Mike. I get what you are saying. I feel that the Go3 is about convenience, size and portability. That’s were they are aiming to compete, or rather than compete, stand out. I have a couple of videos comparing it to other similar cameras in the market, and sure, the Go3 might fall behind some areas but I found it to be a winner in other areas 🙂
@@ninthislandrc hey man. For what you are using this might be a nice option, but I’m going to be honest with you, I think that almost anything would be better than your gopro 8 😄. I remember those generation having so many issues. I got my faith back after they released the Hero 10.
@@ninthislandrc GO3 is perfect for what you need, if you can live with 40 min runtime and lower resolution.
At least you will get no overheating error with this cam.
But the video quality is not enough, at least in your case.
@@yoshy2628 I've been looking into the DJI Action 2. I know about it's "overheating problem"...but, since I'd be recording at 1080p, and for a maximum of 15 minutes (7-10min max with boats), I'm guessing that shouldn't be a problem.
I love that the actual camera is waterproof

I'm so annoyed for the money spent (or wasted?) for the Go2, that I'm not sure I'll buy this. I've seen a lot of review, that make this Go3 seem too good to be true. I was waiting for yours, because I know that is honest and not sponsored. Still, I'm not convinced about it. Besides, is almost 500€ in europe.

Hey Dario, let me (maybe) help you out. You know I don't care if I get a % or not, I was never sold on the idea of the GO2 for many reasons, but please, if you have some time, let me know what you didn't like about the GO2 and then I might tell you if this could be a better (or much better fit). Oh something else Dario, FB marketplace seems to work very well to sell that kind of stuff. I recently tried it out for the first time and sold a few things that I was not using.
@OttoJulian_ Well, first of all, the life of the battery inside the Go2 (camera and shell) was bad. It didn't last long and with time, it just got worse. At the moment, the camera battery doesn't last longer than 10mins and the shell's battery gets drained so fast even when you leave the camera inside. I ended up using the camera inside the shell with a powerbank connected most of the time. Another issue of the Go2 has always been the over heating. To the point that the shell on the camera side, after a while, got a crack without me dropping it anywhere. I don't know. As much as I love the OneX2, I have this bad feeling against the Go2, which I was really hoping to enjoy much more than I did/am. Thanks for the suggestion about the FB Marketplace. I'll give it a try 😉
OK so battery life on this one is good and "as advertised" (tested that myself) but I can't say anything about how well it will hold in the future and the times you are getting are not acceptable! No wonder you have second thoughts! As far as the overheating, it gets warm but that's it (I did test it without the camera moving so that is supposed to get warmer faster....). I will try it on a hot day outdoors in the following days, I plan to compare it to the Hero 11 and I have gotten a couple of requests to compare it to another camera which I'd rather not to mention in public. :) I'll make sure to keep you updated if I find anything weird
@OttoJulian_ the Go2 isn't "getting warmer". It gets hot 🔥😳. Anyway, I'll wait for your next reviews. Let's see if I'll change my mind 😁

I'm piggybacking on your comment because I have the GO 2 and I find I get frustrated by certain things:
1. Connection with phone is inconsistent. It takes a long time to connect to my pixel 6 pro and also I find that I never can get it to connect on first try.
2. I get frustrated trying to frame shots because the connection between my phone and the GO 2 is spotty and inconsistent.
3. My GO 2 has slow file transfer using wifi connection and it gets even slower when the camera heats up during the file transfer.
Does the GO 3 experience these issues? It might help me with my decision to sell the GO 2 to fund a GO 3 purchase.
