      I took my 1984 Dodge Rampage 5-Speed stick to Germany twice. Two things the German auto inspectors are death on is "Any" unibody or frame rust that is through the metal. They will use an Awl to test spots they believe are week. Also, vehicles which are "Gross" polluters. If it smokes, it will be dead lined until fixed to standard.

They agreed to to replace the struts with KYB non-loaded struts for just the price of the part no labor. You were right, those quick-struts were garbage! The car drives much better

      Marktuyet had a 1998 Accord that got T-boned by a construction vehicle so it was totaled with 285,000 on it. The AC was always cold my cousin who was an HVAC tech told me to run the AC for 5 minutes every Saturday all year long. Since there are seals in the system and there are lubricants in as well this keeps the seals pliable. Do the same with my home AC unit and it lasted 28 years.

    CVT transmissions are much lighter and simpler and are more efficient than ordinary transmission. My 2008 Lexus has a CVT transmission and the car accelerates to 60 in the mid 5 second range. Toyota added something called "launch gear" to their CVT's that improve acceleration off the line.

  • @christeschke9844
    @christeschke9844 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    CVT could be quick, but most of the time a civic is tuned for economy , so it tries to keep the revs down.....but hondas love revs, so it does hurt performance the way they tuned that transmission. If it's rubber belt CVT they try to ramp up the power a little so it doesn't Jatco Grenade.

  • @benashbaugh5982
    @benashbaugh5982 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

    I agree, I hate the CVT. The reason car manufacturers went to CVT is because of Fed MPG mandate. Using CVT saves weight and increase MPG. The other problem with CVT is they wear out quick if the manufacturer uses cheap CVT. Nissan is notorious for using cheap CVTs and they barley last 65k. Replacing them will cost 5k not including labor.

  • @cjburian1
    @cjburian1 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Scotty, I don't get why a car with a CVT doesn't have the oomph of conventional MT or AT. Seems to me a CVT is the ultiimate oomph setup because it can snap to peak horsepower and just hold it there, sliding the gear ratio from near standstill to top speed while always at peak power. What could be quicker than max air and max fuel all the time?

      To the best of my knowledge, the european civics came with a 1.0t, 1.4, 1.5, 1.5t, 1.6 diesel and 1.8 liter engine. The 2 liter only being available in the type r. I have a 1.6 diesel in mine(yes, a diesel engine in a civic, but honda made that call). Most civics here in ireland are the 1.4 petrol engines or the 1.0 turbo(surprisingly punchy little thing btw). Good sweep of the 1.6 diesels and 1.8 petrols with a manual gearbox. The rest are available in automatic and manual and also a lot of hybrids with the 1.5. I personally am not a fan of that engine despite having a soft spot for hondas. Kinda says it all when a honda lover doesnt like a honda engine so this man made a smart move with his 2 liter. The cvt wont be great however if he drives it hard
      Perhaps this gent wanted a 2 liter engine but couldnt buy one here due to availability. Or maybe he just likes the car.
