When Infidel was built in the 1960s and was winning races in Auckland the CYC decided that it would ban hard chine plywood boats because they thought them fragile, dangerous and transient. I was a teenage fan and built a balsa model which I still have. 45 years later the boat proved everyone wrong. Still going strong.
It’s just a dingy and even if it were another 10 feet longer would still feel like a dingy, amazing boat for the world to keep , at the speed this thing is doing
Remember when my boatbuilder friend told me about Ragtime around 1985. She was the first large, light race boat built of plywood. Many thought she would break apart in heavy seas. NOT. Of course I wanted him to build me one. Unfortunately never happened.... Wonder what’s up with her now??
Yeah, wow - 20kts of boat speed. That thing doesn't look much bigger than 42-45ft....but it's hard to say. One thing for sure, it looks very narrow. Please share - what kind of boat is this!!? Awesome footage for sure.
Absolutely flying along, what a great ride!
She sails like a dream !
Cool footage, it's like being there! Thanks, I've never been sailing so this is way cool!!!

still sailing. going through a overhaul today for a taller rig, lightening the boat and increasing the righting moment.
What great news. Thanks for letting me know. Ragtime lives and is only getting better 👍
20 knots boat speed in a 30mph wind. That is fast for sailboats of that size.
What kind of boat is it?
