greetings dad; i noticed your son not just watching but noticing your every move. be sure to reward his interest with instruction that lets him know he is integral. a role, albeit small, is very important as he can say "mom, dad and i put some roofing on and it is straight".......................g

Nice job! Metal sheets always take some tweaking to run square and straight, way to go!

I’m with you in the “put the screw in the rib” school of thought. I mark a few of the purlins the length of the building because when you put the screws in the rib it’s easy to compress the rib which in turn widens the panel

Yes , you’re going wish you’d put down tar paper or something similar to catch the drips soon

many people do this, except this means once your screws rust out your roof leaks. On the rib the water runs off into the flat and does not rust out the screws as quickly and even if a screw rusts out and you have a gaping hole, it may still not leak for awhile.

Awesome how you got those screws lined up so perfectly! I'm doing a 24x24x12 and I hope I can line them up so perfectly

If your purlins are straight and evenly spaced, you can pre-measure and pre drill everything and it will all lineup perfectly.

Pre drill is the way to go

Im about 1 year into roofing metal sheds, carports etc. But can you detail a little more on how to square up with the building and it run straight. The old guy i learnt from uses his finger as a guide ive done the same and it does run kinda straight unless the facial of the building or whatever im putting my finger against is crooked also if i try to line up with the gable trim if the outside rafter or something similar is out at the top it runs crooked just a bit and metal gets longer or shorter at the bottom. Idk i just dont get how my finger is gonna help when there are errors in the frame and stuff??😂😂😂

Lol nice! The “3 4 5 squaring method” is the best way to go. I recommend watching a few videos on that, it applies to building and squaring up anything. Fences, buildings, you name it.

@@MaynardFamilyHomestead well thanks! Ive never heard of it but ill do my research on it thanks for passing it on. Ive moved to fabricating sheet metal and truss. But i couldnt stay working on the roof which I really liked because I had to tell my job about my epilepsey. Anyway still doing roof work just on the ground now. Thank god for good bossess that work around disabilities and allow employment 🙏. I gotta build up my social security 1st!!😵‍💫😵‍💫
