You can call me out of touch all you like, but the fact of the matter is, a mid-gen refresh like this, being sold like a non-complete product (disc drive) for this price is crazy. Consumers deserve better. I may be a TH-camr but I also purchase ALL of my consoles myself and I want to spend my money on complete products. (To the person saying I spent money on high end TVs, for starters, I got them both at half price, but they are COMPLETE products that have more uses for multiple different things. However, does it not say a lot that I’m not spending my money on a PS5 Pro (granted, yet)? I would be fine to pay this price for a PS6 KNOWING it’s a new generation, that has these high end specs as it should from the very beginning - as long as PS don’t false promise like they did with the 8K logo on the box of the PS5 on OG models. There is absolutely nothing wrong with critiquing a company and products they make. You don’t have to agree with big corporations all the time. Your money is valuable.
You are completely out of touch. To match this Pro capabilities you'll need a Radeon RX 6800 or a RTX 4070 graphics card and still none of those cards have the raytracing nor the upscalling technology of the Pro. Building a feature complete computer without the disk drive around that would cost you from $1200 up to $1500. Even the disc drive + cover is fairly priced since the only internal 4K UHD BR drives on the market are $100. Entitled consumers need to shut up sometimes. Either you want better technology and you have to pay the price or you stick with what you have. The regular PS5 will still be available and games will still come out for it, they will just look better and play smoother on the Pro. If you don't have the means or you personally don't see the value fine, just don't buy it, but don't complain about the price then, because it makes you look extremely unknowledgeable. As for the PS6, like every other generation Sony will eat the cost and sell its new console at a loss at first to increase its market share, then gradually revise it to either sell it at cost, or with a small margin. The PS5 Pro though, being a mid-gen refresh, is probably already sold at cost since the increased price is solely due to the new GPU, larger SSD storage and revised casing. They don't need to eat the cost on this one because the PS5 Pro will never be the standard console. The regular PS5 will still be the mass market product. As for 8K it wasn't a false promise since there are 2 games that run at 8K but can only be outputted at 4K. The reason the logo was on the box is because 4K UHD Bluray players would have actually been able to play 8K bluray movies should have they existed. At the launch of the PS5, Sony promised compatibility with 8K screens and an update to enable content to access this resolution in the future. The company no doubt deliberately talked about content, not games, because it knew, on the one hand, that 8K games wouldn't catch on on this generation of consoles and, on the other, that the PS5's hardware, while being able to output 8K movies, wouldn't be powerful enough for 8K output on most games.
@@4zun14n the reality is that sony did this to themselves , they created the value proposition with the ps5. so you cant get mad that consumers are seeing this for what it is an unnecessary cash grab. when the ps4 pro came out the base ps4 was sluggish and it ran hot, the ps4 pro addressed that and they showcased new games and features. the ps5 pro has no new games announced, and no new features (the upscaling is coming to base ps5). its a ps5 that is slightly faster, yet in some regions its double the price. How can you defend that. and the pc comparisons are dumb , because a full pc at 700 is gonna have a better cpu and similar gpu performance, all the while you dont have to pay for online subscriptions and its also more useful than a gaming/streaming box.
Don’t forget that a true gamer back in the day play a video game for the sole of playing a game that they like. Todays gamer play a game for the hype, for social media, for youtube, look at me me me, not because the game is good.

I paid $750aud retail for the base ps5 w/disc drive and vertical stand at retail, and now Sony wants me to pay $1410 for the ps5 pro, disc drive and vertical stand? Nope. Not in this life time.

Yeah I agree. I’m not spending that sort of money when I could barely see a difference in the comparisons. I really don’t feel like they’re pushing the limits of what the base PS5 can even do yet because everything is still being made with PS4 in mind. Anyway, I recently bought a ROG Ally X and if that sort of money is burning a hole in your pocket that’s what I’d recommend buying over a Pro. All the PC games, the PS and Xbox exclusives on PC, Game Pass, PS and Xbox remote play (Portal replacement), all the emulated games from consoles past, even Switch, and all in your hands with the ability to connect to a TV.
I had the original rog Ally and I had a dud that was defective and burnt my hand from overheating so I’m sceptical on getting another, but I only use steam anyway so a steam deck for me is the right choice I think! But I still agree on the portable handheld pc option, I’m totally about them!

All facts! I genuinely think like mid generation console upgrades don’t need to become the norm. It made sense with the PS4 Pro since 4K kind of became standard during that generation, but this time it just doesn’t make sense. Love seeing others speak out against this, we must use our voices.
But each base console they’re gonna create performance and fidelity modes and this is gonna give you ability to have both, for people who want that it makes a lot of sense.

The biggest killer in all of this is unless you analyze graphics at at a digital foundry level, the vast majority of people wont be even to tell the difference. This thing is aimed at the 5-10% crowd. Not showing any software based on NEW PS5 native games was a huge mistake. I dont care about Last of Us or Ratchet and Clank... that was LAST GEN! Australia is kinda struggling at the moment and a lot of retailers are feeling the pinch. Good luck Sony...you're gonna need it! Switch 2 around the corner as well....

Even for it being just for enthusiasts or people who can afford to spend £700 i still think its expensive, I thought it was going to be around £650-700 but it becomes a problem when thats without a freaking disc drive because at least half or a bit less than half have physical collections so they'd have to make another £80 purchase to play their games (They may be two options as they did for a Slim but currently there's only the digital Pro) and thats a likely if you're coming from the base PS5 or PS4-PS4 Pro. Even if you've brought the Slim you can't sell it incomplete without the disc drive so you'd have to buy another drive anyway. The stand i can agree that is optional/a preference but that will cost you an additional £30 so the total for some people is £810 and you haven't brought a £70 game to test the new hardware i.e Phantom Balde 0 or GTA6 whenever they come out. And a further issue the price of the PS5 Pro creates is the PS6 is coming in at a price of £850 as the PS4 Pro was £350 and the next console after PS5 was £450 now its £480 due to inflation so there's no way the PS6 is not coming in less than £800+ and that's crazy!!! And what's the cause of this is one the Scalpers highlighting what people are willing to pay, two Sony's own hubris and three the fact Xbox are no longer a competitor, and Nintendo know they can't get away with a price that matches £700. The OLED is £300 the successor is either £370-400 no way the could go beyond that.
You're right, they definitely should have added the edge controller, the stand and a disc drive and they should have still priced it cheaper. Even the design they went with was lackluster. Think they should have redesigned it instead of making it look like the slim. They should have made it look more premium than the standard model and should have made it black. Maybe the reverse colour arrangement of the standard where it is mostly black with white and silver accents.
I never even had a ps3 😂. I had to play my nephews. Too expensive, even used. I never bought the ps3, ps3 slim, ps4/slim, or ps4 pro. I for damn sure ain't getting a ps5 pro buddy. $700 is a car note on a Range Rover 😅 They literally just dropped the ps5 slim.
Ps4 pro doesn't run 4k Blu-ray's only the Xbox one x did from last gen but I get your point. Ps4 pro was a better upgrade from ps4 than the ps5 pro is from the ps5.
There are now choices for gamers: go regular with PS5, save money with a refurbished PS5, or get a Pro at a higher price tag. The community does not get disrupted what ever your choice is, nobody gets forced to buy the Pro. I will buy it as I like new tech but I don't expect a miracle. 2 weeks ago I got the new Panasonic OLED z90a TV which indeed is a massive upgrade for games like Helldivers 2. So I guess you better upgrade first your TV and if you still want to smash the cash, get a Pro. But before putting the Pro down (or up), we all need to see the potential improvements first and then decide for ourselves if go or no. Let's play games and enjoy it, this is what consoles are meant for

I wanted to buy it next year in time for GTA 6 but at the same time it’s only gonna last 3 to 4 years. I might as well wait for the PS6 at this point I bet GTA 6 will be released for that system as well. PS6 will very likely be digital only console and it’s gonna be around $800 usd. I too already have a Physical PS5 I bought in 2021 and also a digital for my living room so don’t need a pro but still wanted it. Until I saw the price and no disc drive included.
@@Liessshy Jim Ryan left them in a financial mess with no margins so is no wonder they are acting cheap not putting anything extra in the box and not subsidizing at all but leaving all cost to consumer. Still not a good idea to buy this because if it sells then even when they are financially better they won't lower the prices because they would have seen that people still buy. I want a Pro in the future because i am planning to get a new 65 4K TV that i want to enjoy but unless there is some discount or price drop i am not jumping on it. I have 3 years because my time frame for the Pro is 2 to 3 years(i only got my normal PS5 end of last year) so hopefully by then some price drops will exist.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Sony pulls the Pro back or drop the price by $50-$75. As much pushback Sony’s getting and with what happened with Concord, Sony might not chance two big losses.
I agree, this is very reminiscent of when the PS3 first launched. The high asking price and the trouble developers initially had using the Cell processor was a rough time for Sony. However, they got the message, and about midway through the PS3 life cycle basically relaunched the PS3 (with the slim) at a lower price, fixed the PlayStation Network, and gave more support to developers which ultimately lead to better games and success of the console and brand as a whole. That success then carried over into the PS4. My hope is that with the rocky year Sony is having and the feedback from the PS5 Pro reveal, that they reassess and revamp things like they did during the second half of the PS3’s life cycle. It all boils down to listening to their customers and their base

I also think if Xbox regrouped and became more of a competitive threat to Sony in the console space by giving people more of a reason to buy their consoles (instead of making their games available on PC and now porting them to PS5), that would also force Sony to listen to the consumers more. The feedback from content creators in the tech space like you is also vital. So thank you for being honest and taking a stand
how can we as a whole be annoyed by this, but carelessly spend 1000s on a PC or macbook, 1500$+ on a phone every other year, but as soon as a high performance console in 2024 releases there is a stink. It should be priced higher, it's not aimed at the whole market, its intentional???
I do think its purely the fact that they're pushing for digital and making customers purchase a simple disc drive separately when it should be included at that price point. I definitely made the point at around the 4:50 mark about how this is why consoles come into play, to be more affordable than a PC whilst in theory, being just as good, and that's what this pro is. But the whole disc drive issue not being included in the big price is valid!
fair enough, i just think the pricing isn't awful for a performance machine. The disk drive is valid, but with physical media being less and less prevalent i can see the position of it being an accessory over standard these days. None the less, good video. Valid arguments
you are definitely correct on spending $$ phones! I will agree with that for sure. If it wasn't my job, I wouldn't be buying an iphone every year (to be fair though, this is the first year I'm doing an upgrade from 15 to the next gen)
In some capacity you are correct but you also have to put it in perspective, the majority of people don't use their PlayStation nearly as much as their phones so I think it's sort of disingenuous to ignore that. The only reason there's this much outrage over the price is because it's WITHOUT a disc drive and arguably the specific "quality and graphics" jumps are getting smaller. So when you try and compare it to iPhones and MacBooks, there's a lot more everyday use to them than a PS5, so people are willing to spend that on them. The "stink" over a supposed high performance console is because the PS5 era still feels like it's on it's first legs to most people and the climate is still shaky, but they're pushing a mid gen refresh at this price for small improvements.
It. isn't because you people aren't looking at it in a different perspective. All of you are too fixed on the price and the supposedly "missing" attachments. Firstly, The PS5 Pro is a higher end model. That's all it is. It takes absolutely nothing away from the existing Slim. It's a model that will sell along side the Slim and nothing more. This is absolutely no different than what Microsoft has been doing since last generation. Secondly, making the Pro model be exactly like the Slim model with an an optional disc-drive is INCREDIBLY smart. Disc drive mechanical failure is one of the WORST things you can experience in a unified console. I've had an original 60GB PS3 die in less than 2 years all because of that disc drive. I had to soft mod a PS2 and turn it into a digital-only machine because the disc drive ALSO failed. Thirdly, this has been Sony's intention from the start. Ever since they released the digital-only PS5, the entire generation has been held back by the disc drive. Even Microsoft is tired of it. One of their newest Series X models has no disc drive, because it was clearly meant to be something they wanted to do at launch. Fourthly, people have to adapt to change or get left behind. There is no other way around it. That's how evolution works. From flip phones to smart phones, etc. Sorry, but i'm in favor of this. For the longest time i've defended physical media to the point where it's fuckin' exhausting. if Sony and Microsoft want to continue using physical media for next gen, put that shit on cartridge then. I will no longer defend the disc drive.
if people are not making a stand and paying for this scam... then be prepared to pay usd1k for the PS6 unit without any controller, disc driver, power cable, graphic card, cpu... every parts sells separately at a modular basis.
It's odd how it's more expensive in some places than others and American's still think it's too expensive it says £1,199 Australian Dollar equals about £612.52 Pound sterling in the UK it's £699. Also surely you could do with a 8K TV for it? I haven't even got a 4K which don't come in under 42 inch screens, and that's too big for a smallish bedroom.

I like this review. Straight to the point. It's a huge let down on that price. $700 No disc drive? They couldn't throw the stand in for free!? I have an 86" 4K LG t.v. and the PS5 fully adjusted to take advantage of the graphics with a 250 watt surroundsound. It's absolutely glorious. I'd rather put that kinda money into something else as well. I literally think most late PS4 games look fine. November update.. menu wallpapers, and ability to adjust 3D sound, etc. I'm cool with that. I can wait for the Playstation 6 😅
From what I have seen in Australia will be around $1,400 with the drive 😮 At this price I’ll just put the money into a pc. Looks like consumers are paying the price for lack of competition in the market.
Some of them must of been waiting for the pro version and they didn’t even bother to buy a PlayStation 5 yet. But seeing the ridiculous price for the only digital console for the pro. They may now consider buying the slim version or the original PS5 console instead. Since those consoles are cheaper than the pro version.
I honestly think the PS5 PRO will definitely shine on your LG C4 OLED. The AI-driven technology PSSR is a revolutionary feature in a console platform and the PRO will use the upcoming AMD GPU.
I was always annoyed when I had to choose between fidelity and performance on the original ps5 and to me it was unacceptable for such hardware so I will be upgrading and trading in my ps5 revision 2 (non slim) that came with the drive. I’ve already purchased the vertical stand/ optical drive so now it’s a waiting game.

Nah. The majority of PS5 games are PS4 exclusives. GIVE US MORE PS5 EXCLUSIVES FIRST. My wallet will remain shut. At this rate I should just sell my PS5 and stay with ps4 since most games are optimized for it.

But I understand where you're getting at and I was frustrated to when This is the first time in playstation console history that I can remember of Sony shipping a console without the stand and disc drive included, which is a shame Because these were core features and a staple to playstations legacy of it being included. I myself, i'm a hardcore playstation fan.Since 1994. I've seen all the up and downs with them and controversial business decisions they've done. And I will always support them of being a true fan. Since playstation and nintendo are carrying the gaming industry as top market leaders. At $700. It should've included those components. And I hope they change their mind of listening to the negativity and criticism from the community. And I do wish they just do more pro consumer things. Something that really bothered me this generation that I wanted them to improve on. However. When they did all these price hikes, Not including certain components with the console, Layoffs, Shutdowns of studios, list goes on. And they did all these things in a normal generation era, like past generations. Then that would be not acceptable at all. But because electronic manufacturing is keep on going higher and higher globally, And nothing is getting cheaper with the rough times we're in with inflation. Food, rent, house prices, buying electronics etc. And with the value of the yen in japan is collapsing Which is affecting sony, because they're a japanese company. And worldwide currency issues. This is why they are a business and need to make their money and make tough calls and decisions like this. They aren't doing these decisions to intentionally make people upset. Xbox is going through a whole different mess and falling apart. With major software and hardware sales declines that will potentially make them go 3rd party as we're witnessing that. Other publishers in the gaming industry are going through extreme rough times also. With increase of cost of things, shutdown studios, profit losses, layoffs etc. Not just Sony. So the top reason why I feel like they're wanting to sell the pro at $700(US) Is because they will probably sell it at a loss of profit if it was anything lower than that. And it's for the target main enthusiast audience. Heard its expected to sell 20% of PS5 sales in the coming years according to expert analysts. Best thing that they can do to market this console, and for it to sell well is showing future 1st and 3rd party games running on it, having a good showcase, And having a much better, deep dive tech presentation, then what we got with cerny the other day. It looks like it's going to target 4K60 in games. And PSSR is like DLSS And it's gonna be a game changer in games. Basically like Playing fidelity mode, but with higher stable frames at 60fps this tine around. So I get what you're saying. And I wish they could lower costs of things to help consumers in these rough times. But everything from the pandemic to inflation to the worldwide currency issues and other things. Sony kind of had no choice to do this. I'm sure they will include the components with the pro. At one point and lower the price in the future. And I really hope they lower the price of the PS5 someday. Since its 4 years old now. And that can really boost sales. So even though I don't agree with every business decision, they do especially nowadays. I will always be a hardcore fan and support them like i've done for 30 years.
Everything we talked about a few days ago on Instagram still stands, I LOVE PlayStation, but this one just ain't it at all, $700 USD for a PS5 with no stand, and no disc drive, is wild. But the icing on the cake is the fact that the stand is sold separately; $30 for the damn thing, that blows my mind the most 😭 And sure, games look awesome, but let's be real, who's sitting there, playing Marvel's Spider-Man, looking at leaves on the tree and saying "wow! I can veins on that leaf!" For $700? HARD PASS. Well said Lieshy 😊 I’m a big PlayStation fan too, still have all my original consoles from the PS1 to the PS5 but I’m gonna have to say no to this Pro. It’s not much of an upgrade in my opinion. And I agree, Sony is completely out of touch but sadly I’m sure lots of people will buy the Pro anyways. I’m hearing external disc drives are being sold out online so if it’s any indication the Pro may do well unfortunately as people may be preparing for it since it’s discless. If so then there’s no incentive for Sony to change anything which hurts us more. Maybe down the track I may get a Pro if the price is more reasonable, right now though I’m comfortable with the regular PS5. Also, hope you’ve been well 🤗
In South Africa its better to buy a 4070ti build and you can save a liitle more and buy a 4080 super build. With the upcoming 50 series release this console is outdated
Sony had to in to show you any difference 😂. The issue is the CPU. So you will still have new games at 30fps. All the old games will be 60 fps.. 😂 but the old games ALREADY HAVE 60FPS MODE. This is a scam. I would rather buy the 2tb xbox series x.
I think for that money 4 TB drive should be in it. I won't buy one anyways. My top issues with PS5 Pro Cost, Lack of games why buy a console only having 18 games in my library, Sony takes games I pay for and take them away. i don't mind if i own games or don't own digital games because i'm the only one i'm not digital media at all i love embrace digital all only future i'm not against digital media like alot of people are i'm all for it because i'm a fan of digital that's just me in my honest unpopular point of view perspective take but the only thing i do agree resonate is that i'm against sony and other companies making everything expenisve i think it's evil soulless thing to do i always don't like corporate greed at all i always love prefer most things are affordable cheap that's just me
just keep your ps5. mine is only 1 year old. if you want awesome graphics on games build yourself a high end pc and get into pc gaming. the ps6 will be all digital no drive. the future of ps5 gaming is own no physical disks and only be allowed to digital download all games in the future. and your digital license can be taken away at any time.
Hello from PA, Long time fan of yours. Keep up the awesome work. To be honest, i can't support or defend Sony at all when it comes to the overpriced PS5 Pro, and I have been a Playstation fan since day one. This is another example example of this console generation is an epic fail! Also I am going to pass on the next generation of consoles.
Nice vid - and especially good to see things from an Aussie perspective.... the point is (IMHO) that AUD1200 is about USD 900 (I know that price is pre- US tax, but that's generally small compared to AUS).... but the reveal did absolutely NOTHING to make me want to upgrade (a 2020 PS5)... but it also made me realise that Sony is going after the whales in a very cynical approach.... and that's what hurts my Sony love. This has nothing to do with gaming, and is only to do with trying to flex on being ABLE to ask USD 700 for a console no one wanted, or really can't justify. Still, I'll forgive you having an 8k screen (I hope to God you got a tax credit for that), and will subscribe to a fellow Aussie (because I'm simple like that). Edit - I always comment too early... and I just wanted to say, yes, people who say you can get a comparable PC for the same price are just out of their mind... yes, you can get a mixed-bag with 3070 specs... (and by all accounts the PS5Pro is 4060... but that's not saying much), but you're also having to build it yourself, and still having to add controller/OS and all the other crap that comes with having a PC. As someone who was a console gamer, then turned to PC, then gave up on the hassle of PC, I think it's important to understand the distinction between PC and consoles... and this seems to be so expensive that they are inviting people to question whether consoles are worth it... which isn't a good marketing plan (even if the PS5 Pro IS cheaper.... it's rapidly eating into that buffer).
Thanks for the kind words! We actually got a half price deal on the 8K, and bought it 2 years ago so we were sort of in the position where we wanted to “future proof” ourselves but with Sony’s 8K lies on the box, I guess we are the fools now haha

Thanks for giving a civilize opinion on the matter. I knew this wouldn’t be a pleasant feedback because of the state of gaming with PlayStation, and how perfectly fine the base PS5 model is. Not only are you doing comparisons with the biggest quality performing games we all played, these games aren’t even all that in desperate need of fancy boots. It’s just pure privilege upgrade. I’m sure it’s all great and good if that’s what you like or care about, but is it that crazy of a leap to justified its price? We’ll soon find out, but either way it’s just too much for a none gen hardware. What bugs me most is that we have to resort in getting a mid gen upgrade to get the best hardware possible for games to run better than it upon launch. Because you have games that have failure dates performances that shouldn’t even be a thing anymore. Games that rely on patches constantly. Usually from third parties. It’s a complicated situation depending on consumer preferences, and personal situation options. I completely agree with you. I’m sure it’ll have its place in value. I’m not giving it too much hate. Annoyed, but not too over exaggerating. It’s just not the best marketing move I feel is the core issue.

I own all platforms, mostly played ps4 last gen as i skipped the xbox one. i play my xbox sx more than ps5 only becuz my friends since the xbox 360 days play more there lol so i use my ps5 for my PlayStation only jrpg games or free to play games with some friends i made on there. ima pass on the pro tho. i like the look but im good. waiting on my very first pc to be build by my friend. im looking forward to seeing Nintendo new switch anyways good vid 😊
You are wrong, you need to add 300-400 bucks to pc to be equal to ps5 pro. Remember that ps5 pro has the exactly same cpu and is old. (bottleneck will be something here for 3rd party developers). None can justify that price. If you ll do, then prepare to pay above 1500 and nearly 2000 AUD for PS6. You didn't want competition, now pay thousands to Sony that feels like Apple and will turn their policy in that direction. 👏👏
I really do not know who you are or why you were in my recomendations but l must say people who are complaining about the amount of the console do not realize that this is a Pro edit. This is why they are having it at the amount to be. It is developed for this who are serious with gaming and serious enough for a Pro edit. This is not for the regular baseement dwelers who are the people complaining about it being so higgh
We know its a pro edit. We know what goes into building a console like this with the specs they've used and what they have changed. What we aren't happy to see is the need to charge so much + extra for parts that should be included in the box. Buying a separate disc drive at over $1200 AUD is absolutely insane. They can factor in the cost into the price and let whoever buys it decide if they want it attached to their unit or not. I'm also well aware that I don't need this, yet. But that still doesn't negate the fact that the pricing is wrong and out of touch for consumers. Buying the Pro console with the separate disc drive is DOUBLE the price of the digital slim alone. Crazy.

Regarding you mentioned digital games, this is where PC shines where the cracking scene is. Most of my PC collection are all cracked, DRM free with every bit of dlc included. Im still amazed how good the stock speakers are on the plasma. I dont any current tv can come close to how good they produce there audio. Ive even got new old stock side speakers & the tv stand. As you might of noticed already im a big pionner buff haha.
You can call me out of touch all you like, but the fact of the matter is, a mid-gen refresh like this, being sold like a non-complete product (disc drive) for this price is crazy. Consumers deserve better. I may be a TH-camr but I also purchase ALL of my consoles myself and I want to spend my money on complete products.

I would be fine to pay this price for a PS6 KNOWING it’s a new generation, that has these high end specs as it should from the very beginning - as long as PS don’t false promise like they did with the 8K logo on the box of the PS5 on OG models.

You are completely out of touch. To match this Pro capabilities you'll need a Radeon RX 6800 or a RTX 4070 graphics card and still none of those cards have the raytracing nor the upscalling technology of the Pro. Building a feature complete computer without the disk drive around that would cost you from $1200 up to $1500. Even the disc drive + cover is fairly priced since the only internal 4K UHD BR drives on the market are $100. Entitled consumers need to shut up sometimes. Either you want better technology and you have to pay the price or you stick with what you have. The regular PS5 will still be available and games will still come out for it, they will just look better and play smoother on the Pro. If you don't have the means or you personally don't see the value fine, just don't buy it, but don't complain about the price then, because it makes you look extremely unknowledgeable.
As for the PS6, like every other generation Sony will eat the cost and sell its new console at a loss at first to increase its market share, then gradually revise it to either sell it at cost, or with a small margin. The PS5 Pro though, being a mid-gen refresh, is probably already sold at cost since the increased price is solely due to the new GPU, larger SSD storage and revised casing. They don't need to eat the cost on this one because the PS5 Pro will never be the standard console. The regular PS5 will still be the mass market product.
As for 8K it wasn't a false promise since there are 2 games that run at 8K but can only be outputted at 4K. The reason the logo was on the box is because 4K UHD Bluray players would have actually been able to play 8K bluray movies should have they existed. At the launch of the PS5, Sony promised compatibility with 8K screens and an update to enable content to access this resolution in the future. The company no doubt deliberately talked about content, not games, because it knew, on the one hand, that 8K games wouldn't catch on on this generation of consoles and, on the other, that the PS5's hardware, while being able to output 8K movies, wouldn't be powerful enough for 8K output on most games.
@@4zun14n the reality is that sony did this to themselves , they created the value proposition with the ps5. so you cant get mad that consumers are seeing this for what it is an unnecessary cash grab. when the ps4 pro came out the base ps4 was sluggish and it ran hot, the ps4 pro addressed that and they showcased new games and features. the ps5 pro has no new games announced, and no new features (the upscaling is coming to base ps5). its a ps5 that is slightly faster, yet in some regions its double the price. How can you defend that. and the pc comparisons are dumb , because a full pc at 700 is gonna have a better cpu and similar gpu performance, all the while you dont have to pay for online subscriptions and its also more useful than a gaming/streaming box.

Yeah I agree. I’m not spending that sort of money when I could barely see a difference in the comparisons. I really don’t feel like they’re pushing the limits of what the base PS5 can even do yet because everything is still being made with PS4 in mind. Anyway, I recently bought a ROG Ally X and if that sort of money is burning a hole in your pocket that’s what I’d recommend buying over a Pro. All the PC games, the PS and Xbox exclusives on PC, Game Pass, PS and Xbox remote play (Portal replacement), all the emulated games from consoles past, even Switch, and all in your hands with the ability to connect to a TV.
I had the original rog Ally and I had a dud that was defective and burnt my hand from overheating so I’m sceptical on getting another, but I only use steam anyway so a steam deck for me is the right choice I think! But I still agree on the portable handheld pc option, I’m totally about them!

The biggest killer in all of this is unless you analyze graphics at at a digital foundry level, the vast majority of people wont be even to tell the difference. This thing is aimed at the 5-10% crowd. Not showing any software based on NEW PS5 native games was a huge mistake. I dont care about Last of Us or Ratchet and Clank... that was LAST GEN! Australia is kinda struggling at the moment and a lot of retailers are feeling the pinch. Good luck Sony...you're gonna need it! Switch 2 around the corner as well....

Even for it being just for enthusiasts or people who can afford to spend £700 i still think its expensive, I thought it was going to be around £650-700 but it becomes a problem when thats without a freaking disc drive because at least half or a bit less than half have physical collections so they'd have to make another £80 purchase to play their games (They may be two options as they did for a Slim but currently there's only the digital Pro) and thats a likely if you're coming from the base PS5 or PS4-PS4 Pro. Even if you've brought the Slim you can't sell it incomplete without the disc drive so you'd have to buy another drive anyway.
The stand i can agree that is optional/a preference but that will cost you an additional £30 so the total for some people is £810 and you haven't brought a £70 game to test the new hardware i.e Phantom Balde 0 or GTA6 whenever they come out.
And a further issue the price of the PS5 Pro creates is the PS6 is coming in at a price of £850 as the PS4 Pro was £350 and the next console after PS5 was £450 now its £480 due to inflation so there's no way the PS6 is not coming in less than £800+ and that's crazy!!!
And what's the cause of this is one the Scalpers highlighting what people are willing to pay, two Sony's own hubris and three the fact Xbox are no longer a competitor, and Nintendo know they can't get away with a price that matches £700. The OLED is £300 the successor is either £370-400 no way the could go beyond that.
You're right, they definitely should have added the edge controller, the stand and a disc drive and they should have still priced it cheaper. Even the design they went with was lackluster. Think they should have redesigned it instead of making it look like the slim. They should have made it look more premium than the standard model and should have made it black. Maybe the reverse colour arrangement of the standard where it is mostly black with white and silver accents.

The community does not get disrupted what ever your choice is, nobody gets forced to buy the Pro. I will buy it as I like new tech but I don't expect a miracle. 2 weeks ago I got the new Panasonic OLED z90a TV which indeed is a massive upgrade for games like Helldivers 2. So I guess you better upgrade first your TV and if you still want to smash the cash, get a Pro. But before putting the Pro down (or up), we all need to see the potential improvements first and then decide for ourselves if go or no. Let's play games and enjoy it, this is what consoles are meant for

I wanted to buy it next year in time for GTA 6 but at the same time it’s only gonna last 3 to 4 years. I might as well wait for the PS6 at this point I bet GTA 6 will be released for that system as well. PS6 will very likely be digital only console and it’s gonna be around $800 usd.
I too already have a Physical PS5 I bought in 2021 and also a digital for my living room so don’t need a pro but still wanted it. Until I saw the price and no disc drive included.

@@Liessshy Jim Ryan left them in a financial mess with no margins so is no wonder they are acting cheap not putting anything extra in the box and not subsidizing at all but leaving all cost to consumer.
Still not a good idea to buy this because if it sells then even when they are financially better they won't lower the prices because they would have seen that people still buy.
I want a Pro in the future because i am planning to get a new 65 4K TV that i want to enjoy but unless there is some discount or price drop i am not jumping on it.
I have 3 years because my time frame for the Pro is 2 to 3 years(i only got my normal PS5 end of last year) so hopefully by then some price drops will exist.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Sony pulls the Pro back or drop the price by $50-$75. As much pushback Sony’s getting and with what happened with Concord, Sony might not chance two big losses.
I agree, this is very reminiscent of when the PS3 first launched. The high asking price and the trouble developers initially had using the Cell processor was a rough time for Sony. However, they got the message, and about midway through the PS3 life cycle basically relaunched the PS3 (with the slim) at a lower price, fixed the PlayStation Network, and gave more support to developers which ultimately lead to better games and success of the console and brand as a whole. That success then carried over into the PS4. My hope is that with the rocky year Sony is having and the feedback from the PS5 Pro reveal, that they reassess and revamp things like they did during the second half of the PS3’s life cycle. It all boils down to listening to their customers and their base

@@LiessshyI hope so, because if not then it will set a dangerous precedent and it could be even worse with the PS6. So feedback is critical with this. I also think if Xbox regrouped and became more of a competitive threat to Sony in the console space by giving people more of a reason to buy their consoles (instead of making their games available on PC and now porting them to PS5), that would also force Sony to listen to the consumers more. The feedback from content creators in the tech space like you is also vital. So thank you for being honest and taking a stand

I do think its purely the fact that they're pushing for digital and making customers purchase a simple disc drive separately when it should be included at that price point. I definitely made the point at around the 4:50 mark about how this is why consoles come into play, to be more affordable than a PC whilst in theory, being just as good, and that's what this pro is. But the whole disc drive issue not being included in the big price is valid!

you are definitely correct on spending $$ phones! I will agree with that for sure. If it wasn't my job, I wouldn't be buying an iphone every year (to be fair though, this is the first year I'm doing an upgrade from 15 to the next gen)
In some capacity you are correct but you also have to put it in perspective, the majority of people don't use their PlayStation nearly as much as their phones so I think it's sort of disingenuous to ignore that. The only reason there's this much outrage over the price is because it's WITHOUT a disc drive and arguably the specific "quality and graphics" jumps are getting smaller. So when you try and compare it to iPhones and MacBooks, there's a lot more everyday use to them than a PS5, so people are willing to spend that on them. The "stink" over a supposed high performance console is because the PS5 era still feels like it's on it's first legs to most people and the climate is still shaky, but they're pushing a mid gen refresh at this price for small improvements.
Sony has no challenge from competition right now to keep them honest. The PS5 Pro is a nonstarter for me. I'll pass. Cheers!

It. isn't because you people aren't looking at it in a different perspective. All of you are too fixed on the price and the supposedly "missing" attachments.
Firstly, The PS5 Pro is a higher end model. That's all it is. It takes absolutely nothing away from the existing Slim. It's a model that will sell along side the Slim and nothing more. This is absolutely no different than what Microsoft has been doing since last generation.
Secondly, making the Pro model be exactly like the Slim model with an an optional disc-drive is INCREDIBLY smart. Disc drive mechanical failure is one of the WORST things you can experience in a unified console. I've had an original 60GB PS3 die in less than 2 years all because of that disc drive. I had to soft mod a PS2 and turn it into a digital-only machine because the disc drive ALSO failed.
Thirdly, this has been Sony's intention from the start. Ever since they released the digital-only PS5, the entire generation has been held back by the disc drive. Even Microsoft is tired of it. One of their newest Series X models has no disc drive, because it was clearly meant to be something they wanted to do at launch.
Fourthly, people have to adapt to change or get left behind. There is no other way around it. That's how evolution works. From flip phones to smart phones, etc.
Sorry, but i'm in favor of this. For the longest time i've defended physical media to the point where it's fuckin' exhausting. if Sony and Microsoft want to continue using physical media for next gen, put that shit on cartridge then. I will no longer defend the disc drive.
if people are not making a stand and paying for this scam... then be prepared to pay usd1k for the PS6 unit without any controller, disc driver, power cable, graphic card, cpu... every parts sells separately at a modular basis.

£1,199 Australian Dollar equals about £612.52 Pound sterling in the UK it's £699. Also surely you could do with a 8K TV for it? I haven't even got a 4K which don't come in under 42 inch screens, and that's too big for a smallish bedroom.

I like this review. Straight to the point. It's a huge let down on that price. $700 No disc drive? They couldn't throw the stand in for free!? I have an 86" 4K LG t.v. and the PS5 fully adjusted to take advantage of the graphics with a 250 watt surroundsound. It's absolutely glorious. I'd rather put that kinda money into something else as well. I literally think most late PS4 games look fine. November update.. menu wallpapers, and ability to adjust 3D sound, etc. I'm cool with that. I can wait for the Playstation 6 😅

Some of them must of been waiting for the pro version and they didn’t even bother to buy a PlayStation 5 yet. But seeing the ridiculous price for the only digital console for the pro. They may now consider buying the slim version or the original PS5 console instead. Since those consoles are cheaper than the pro version.
I honestly think the PS5 PRO will definitely shine on your LG C4 OLED. The AI-driven technology PSSR is a revolutionary feature in a console platform and the PRO will use the upcoming AMD GPU.
I was always annoyed when I had to choose between fidelity and performance on the original ps5 and to me it was unacceptable for such hardware so I will be upgrading and trading in my ps5 revision 2 (non slim) that came with the drive. I’ve already purchased the vertical stand/ optical drive so now it’s a waiting game.
Brand loyalty is a mistake. Like what you like, but hating or loving a corporation is silly as a consumer.
I don’t think it’s silly if you can call them out for their silly behaviour. I love PlayStation and have since a child with the PS1. But I also own Xbox, Nintendo and PC. I’m a fan girl because they’re my favourite choice out of all, but I still think this move is pathetic

Nah. The majority of PS5 games are PS4 exclusives. GIVE US MORE PS5 EXCLUSIVES FIRST. My wallet will remain shut. At this rate I should just sell my PS5 and stay with ps4 since most games are optimized for it.

Great video. Sorry if I write too much here. But I understand where you're getting at and I was frustrated to when This is the first time in playstation console history that I can remember of Sony shipping a console without the stand and disc drive included, which is a shame Because these were core features and a staple to playstations legacy of it being included. I myself, i'm a hardcore playstation fan.Since 1994. I've seen all the up and downs with them and controversial business decisions they've done. And I will always support them of being a true fan. Since playstation and nintendo are carrying the gaming industry as top market leaders. At $700. It should've included those components. And I hope they change their mind of listening to the negativity and criticism from the community. And I do wish they just do more pro consumer things. Something that really bothered me this generation that I wanted them to improve on.
However. When they did all these price hikes, Not including certain components with the console, Layoffs, Shutdowns of studios, list goes on. And they did all these things in a normal generation era, like past generations. Then that would be not acceptable at all. But because electronic manufacturing is keep on going higher and higher globally, And nothing is getting cheaper with the rough times we're in with inflation. Food, rent, house prices, buying electronics etc. And with the value of the yen in japan is collapsing Which is affecting sony, because they're a japanese company. And worldwide currency issues. This is why they are a business and need to make their money and make tough calls and decisions like this. They aren't doing these decisions to intentionally make people upset. Xbox is going through a whole different mess and falling apart. With major software and hardware sales declines that will potentially make them go 3rd party as we're witnessing that. Other publishers in the gaming industry are going through extreme rough times also. With increase of cost of things, shutdown studios, profit losses, layoffs etc. Not just Sony. So the top reason why I feel like they're wanting to sell the pro at $700(US) Is because they will probably sell it at a loss of profit if it was anything lower than that. And it's for the target main enthusiast audience. Heard its expected to sell 20% of PS5 sales in the coming years according to expert analysts.
Best thing that they can do to market this console, and for it to sell well is showing future 1st and 3rd party games running on it, having a good showcase, And having a much better, deep dive tech presentation, then what we got with cerny the other day. It looks like it's going to target 4K60 in games. And PSSR is like DLSS And it's gonna be a game changer in games. Basically like Playing fidelity mode, but with higher stable frames at 60fps this tine around.
So I get what you're saying. And I wish they could lower costs of things to help consumers in these rough times. But everything from the pandemic to inflation to the worldwide currency issues and other things. Sony kind of had no choice to do this. I'm sure they will include the components with the pro. At one point and lower the price in the future. And I really hope they lower the price of the PS5 someday. Since its 4 years old now. And that can really boost sales. So even though I don't agree with every business decision, they do especially nowadays. I will always be a hardcore fan and support them like i've done for 30 years.
Everything we talked about a few days ago on Instagram still stands, I LOVE PlayStation, but this one just ain't it at all, $700 USD for a PS5 with no stand, and no disc drive, is wild. But the icing on the cake is the fact that the stand is sold separately; $30 for the damn thing, that blows my mind the most 😭
And sure, games look awesome, but let's be real, who's sitting there, playing Marvel's Spider-Man, looking at leaves on the tree and saying "wow! I can veins on that leaf!" For $700? HARD PASS.
Also, I love physical media as much as the next guy, but this all digital future makes me a little concerned, then again, there's no point in getting discs, they're basically coasters for your coffee cup, and E-waste just like the PS Portal.

Well said Lieshy 😊 I’m a big PlayStation fan too, still have all my original consoles from the PS1 to the PS5 but I’m gonna have to say no to this Pro. It’s not much of an upgrade in my opinion. And I agree, Sony is completely out of touch but sadly I’m sure lots of people will buy the Pro anyways. I’m hearing external disc drives are being sold out online so if it’s any indication the Pro may do well unfortunately as people may be preparing for it since it’s discless. If so then there’s no incentive for Sony to change anything which hurts us more.
Maybe down the track I may get a Pro if the price is more reasonable, right now though I’m comfortable with the regular PS5.

Sony had to in to show you any difference 😂. The issue is the CPU. So you will still have new games at 30fps. All the old games will be 60 fps.. 😂 but the old games ALREADY HAVE 60FPS MODE. This is a scam. I would rather buy the 2tb xbox series x.

just keep your ps5. mine is only 1 year old. if you want awesome graphics on games build yourself a high end pc and get into pc gaming. the ps6 will be all digital no drive. the future of ps5 gaming is own no physical disks and only be allowed to digital download all games in the future. and your digital license can be taken away at any time.

Hello from PA, Long time fan of yours. Keep up the awesome work. To be honest, i can't support or defend Sony at all when it comes to the overpriced PS5 Pro, and I have been a Playstation fan since day one. This is another example example of this console generation is an epic fail! Also I am going to pass on the next generation of consoles.

Nice vid - and especially good to see things from an Aussie perspective.... the point is (IMHO) that AUD1200 is about USD 900 (I know that price is pre- US tax, but that's generally small compared to AUS).... but the reveal did absolutely NOTHING to make me want to upgrade (a 2020 PS5)... but it also made me realise that Sony is going after the whales in a very cynical approach.... and that's what hurts my Sony love. This has nothing to do with gaming, and is only to do with trying to flex on being ABLE to ask USD 700 for a console no one wanted, or really can't justify. Still, I'll forgive you having an 8k screen (I hope to God you got a tax credit for that), and will subscribe to a fellow Aussie (because I'm simple like that). Edit - I always comment too early... and I just wanted to say, yes, people who say you can get a comparable PC for the same price are just out of their mind... yes, you can get a mixed-bag with 3070 specs... (and by all accounts the PS5Pro is 4060... but that's not saying much), but you're also having to build it yourself, and still having to add controller/OS and all the other crap that comes with having a PC. As someone who was a console gamer, then turned to PC, then gave up on the hassle of PC, I think it's important to understand the distinction between PC and consoles... and this seems to be so expensive that they are inviting people to question whether consoles are worth it... which isn't a good marketing plan (even if the PS5 Pro IS cheaper.... it's rapidly eating into that buffer).
Thanks for the kind words! We actually got a half price deal on the 8K, and bought it 2 years ago so we were sort of in the position where we wanted to “future proof” ourselves but with Sony’s 8K lies on the box, I guess we are the fools now haha

Thanks for giving a civilize opinion on the matter. I knew this wouldn’t be a pleasant feedback because of the state of gaming with PlayStation, and how perfectly fine the base PS5 model is. Not only are you doing comparisons with the biggest quality performing games we all played, these games aren’t even all that in desperate need of fancy boots. It’s just pure privilege upgrade. I’m sure it’s all great and good if that’s what you like or care about, but is it that crazy of a leap to justified its price? We’ll soon find out, but either way it’s just too much for a none gen hardware. What bugs me most is that we have to resort in getting a mid gen upgrade to get the best hardware possible for games to run better than it upon launch. Because you have games that have failure dates performances that shouldn’t even be a thing anymore. Games that rely on patches constantly. Usually from third parties. It’s a complicated situation depending on consumer preferences, and personal situation options. I completely agree with you. I’m sure it’ll have its place in value. I’m not giving it too much hate. Annoyed, but not too over exaggerating. It’s just not the best marketing move I feel is the core issue.

Wishful thinking I know, and not a money maker to them in the long run, but the upgrades they’ve made now, feel like they could have been in the console since the start!

I own all platforms, mostly played ps4 last gen as i skipped the xbox one. i play my xbox sx more than ps5 only becuz my friends since the xbox 360 days play more there lol so i use my ps5 for my PlayStation only jrpg games or free to play games with some friends i made on there.

You are wrong, you need to add 300-400 bucks to pc to be equal to ps5 pro. Remember that ps5 pro has the exactly same cpu and is old. (bottleneck will be something here for 3rd party developers). None can justify that price. If you ll do, then prepare to pay above 1500 and nearly 2000 AUD for PS6. You didn't want competition, now pay thousands to Sony that feels like Apple and will turn their policy in that direction. 👏👏

I really do not know who you are or why you were in my recomendations but l must say people who are complaining about the amount of the console do not realize that this is a Pro edit. This is why they are having it at the amount to be. It is developed for this who are serious with gaming and serious enough for a Pro edit. This is not for the regular baseement dwelers who are the people complaining about it being so higgh
We know its a pro edit. We know what goes into building a console like this with the specs they've used and what they have changed. What we aren't happy to see is the need to charge so much + extra for parts that should be included in the box. Buying a separate disc drive at over $1200 AUD is absolutely insane. They can factor in the cost into the price and let whoever buys it decide if they want it attached to their unit or not. I'm also well aware that I don't need this, yet. But that still doesn't negate the fact that the pricing is wrong and out of touch for consumers. Buying the Pro console with the separate disc drive is DOUBLE the price of the digital slim alone. Crazy.

Regarding you mentioned digital games, this is where PC shines where the cracking scene is. Most of my PC collection are all cracked, DRM free with every bit of dlc included. @@Liessshyyeah we probably will. Im still rocking a LX508 with over 25000 hours on its clock, still running strong paired with a Pioneer SC LX-72 reciever. Im still amazed how good the stock speakers are on the plasma. I dont any current tv can come close to how good they produce there audio. Ive even got new old stock side speakers & the tv stand. As you might of noticed already im a big pionner buff haha.
