    I downloaded it and messed around for a bit. I can see this being super useful. The auto vertex painting is such a nice little feature, as I always find that annoying to do in Blender. Thanks for another great bit of info!

    • @PrismaticaDev
      @PrismaticaDev  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah it's a really handy tool. The best thing is, you can always use it as a starting point and then import it into Blender and make changes (most common would be making the branches blend into the trunk a bit better) but it will still maintain all the vertex paint.

    Hey man, this is so awesome! Question: When importing the trees into UE, the shadow side of the tree is very dark. How do you control the backside shadow color? Do you also use that duplicate+flip normals trick from your foliage tut for the leaves? Because some face normals may be facing the wrong direction.

  • @IAmBael
    @IAmBael 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I downloaded TreeIt as it seems like a fantastic free alternative to SpeedTree, unfortunately when I add leaves (and change their attachment point to the right location), some of them will be incorrectly rotated, and that's with everything set to default. And I have no idea how to correct it, seeing as some of the leaves are attached correctly, so changing anything obviously makes those incorrect instead. This was also using one of the textures provided with the program.
    Any idea what the issue might be? I'm also really enjoying your videos, very inspirational!

    Tried this with UE 5.2, can't seem to get the vertex color / wind simulation to work, don't know if there is a separate tutorial for it, realized that you have to set vertex colors import options to replace in the UE import settings though it was not mentioned but that didn't fix it either, in vertex color view I don't seem to have any color set on the mesh.
    Wish sometimes these things just worked straight away like it seemed to in the tutorial but guess I am missing some pieces.

      It depends on how many vertical/horizontal loops to choose to use when making the trees and the density of leaves. Basically, more triangles = more cost.

    I do have a question. Using this and the global wind tut you made, how would you make a tree like a willow sway? i.e. - have the trunk swaying from the pivot, but the leaves being pushed by the wind in the opposite direction? Only look I can get with the simple wind is that the whole tree sways one direction and the long leaves move in the wind a little.

    • @PrismaticaDev
      @PrismaticaDev  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Veeeery good question... You could try making the leaves much shorter, and then deform them downwards using World Position Offset AFTER the swaying but before the individual wind etc etc. That way they would be deforming downwards in worldspace regardless of their orientation. I do something similar with my Falling Sand meshes so they stretch out downwards regardless of their orientation. Let me know if this works!

    I've just downloaded the program, I made a tree with branches, leaves everything as you showed in the video. Everything looked perfect I exported the file as a fbx file to my desktop, I opened my ue4 project and when I imported the mesh the trees were glitched(they don't even look like leaves anymore lol) and the tree is not even moving. Any ideas why this is happening ?

    • @PrismaticaDev
      @PrismaticaDev  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Kriskata! You'll need to create some materials for the tree to use (you can use the same textures that come with TreeIT), and the tree swaying is a part of the material :) you can follow my Global Wind tutorial if you're interested in getting your trees moving!
