    Truthfully I'm thinking about doing an insert in the bottom but for my gladiator. My arb fridge is to damn tall to close my tonneau cover. I'm not replacing my fridge. Lol I originally had it for by jl jeep.. and the gladiator bed is so damn shallow. Leaving the fridge exposed doesn't seem like a good idea. And I don't have room in my cab becouse of my shepherds. And wife. 😆

    I'm asking myself what I have to put in there thats so important that I need to do this. Imho, without security and water proofing, a molle panel would be more desirable.

      Definitely go with what you think is most beneficial. I like that I can put things like tie downs, gloves, etc in there to get them out of the truck. Things that I won’t go crazy over should sticky fingers decide to visit😬

    • @devinsheehan936

      Rivet nut. Google it. You drill a hole and with a special rivet gun you can put a permanent embedded nut into the hole that is sandwiched around the surface and allows you to thread in boltsscrews as you need

    I don’t blame you for changing to the jigsaw. You have to be comfortable using it. Im going to try an oscillating tool first because Im familiar with it. But if it doesn’t feel right Ill switch over. I have a rivnut tool for the fasteners .

    • @RobMotive
      @RobMotive  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      For sure! Been using the jig saw for years. The oscillating saw just didn’t have a good feel for me😬

  • @Do-UR-Research2749
    @Do-UR-Research2749 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Nice work!
    You could have also placed a washer on the screw/bolt, placed a little adhesive on the t-nut and tightened them individually. Allowing the bards on the t-nut to inbed into the plastic with a bit of adhesive. This would ensure the t-nut won't fall out when you install the box.
    I might do this. Any storage that doesn't take up bed space is a winner.

    Great job! I’d like to do this if i could find a used cubby. I was laughing that you seem to jump head first into mods that terrify me: cutting your bed for the cubby or cutting trim for the BA front bumper (which I want!!), but recommend not doing DIY bed lighting which looks super easy and the tailgate lock (which I did). I just watched TH-camrs like you/ online read instructions until I felt comfortable.

Personally, I don’t think much of the cubby itself. It doesn’t really hold much. If mine didn’t have one I wouldn’t miss. Of course, I have a locking bed cover, so everything is secure. That would be a super useful addition for those with lockable tonneau covers looking for a place to store some more straps. Wish Toyota made them a little more waterproof though... and lockable for people without a tonneau.

    • @RobMotive
      @RobMotive  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      For sure. There is a lock mod that I did on my 2018. Pretty easy. I have seen some try to make it waterproof, but with the way the latches work it’s almost impossible 🤔

    Very nice job rob the only thing I'm kind of worried about is the square corners stress sometimes makes square corners Crack that's why people cut rounded corners in certain material but these beds are pretty darn strong so you probably all right

    • @RobMotive
      @RobMotive  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @russellmorash3816 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Like I said the material they make the beds out of is very durable I think it's cross linked like fiberglass but much stronger at first I had some reservations about it but after having 3 tacomas with it one a work truck I like it better than steel no bed liners no dents no chance of rust

  • @tacotogoandbeaux4586
    @tacotogoandbeaux4586 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Whew! I’m glad you got those t-nuts to work. The prongs are designed to penetrate into wood. With the bed being made of fiber reinforced plastic of some type, I was afraid it would be just brittle enough to crack and/or shatter when you tightened the screws.
    So… What do you plan on putting in the cubby???

    • @RobMotive

    • @RobMotive
      @RobMotive  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Lol! Gotta be stylish when modding!! You could line it, but the only thing that might rattle is the door. The cubby should be firm👍

  • @kathy0698
    @kathy0698 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Came out good. My 16' already had the two cubbies. I was hoping to use one for my charger, or air compressor. The charger might fit as it is pretty small, but forget the compressor, not to mention it isn't waterproof. What's the point of a non waterproof cubby? I just can't think of what I'd use it for. I suppose I could throw some bungee cord's in a bag in there?
