    Great info! Just bought this router for our live in vehicle to improve our reception. I've bought the USB lead you recommended too now! Thanks!

    Didn’t even know this was possible! Brilliant, Thankyou, cable purchased and looking forward to trying it out in our motorhome over the weekend 👍

    What a spectacular find.
    I currently use the TP-Link MR6400 but that requires 9v so I'll be buying one of the MR600 routers to test, thanks so much.

    Thanks for the vid! :)
    I checked out the specs on the lead and the router and there is a discrepancy. The lead takes a 5V 2A+ input from your USB supply, but because of the conversion to 12V output it only outputs 0.6A. The MR600 uses a 1.5A power supply. Normally this would be vastly overrated to prevent problems with the power supply burning out, but even if the MR600 only uses 1A under normal circumstances the lead will be underrated for the job.
    It will most likely work for a while (although I can imagine the router being unstable) but the lead will probably give up at some point.
    I can't imagine it being a safety issue at those volts/amps, but it's worth considering. I'd have thought a basic lead plug into a 12V accessory socket would have been fine, although I'd keep it on the leisure circuit and avoid putting it on the starter circuit as the alternator will be pushing out over 14V.

    Brilliant, been on call to TP link as much help as a chocolate tea pot, this is ideal for my motorhome.

    Your video helped me. I bought one for my RV. it will work with 25,6V lithium battery to 13.8V DC to DC converter, I hope :)

      It works so well and the speed is much better than sharing the connection on your phone.

    If the router requires 12vdc why not just cut the plug off of the original adaptor and wire it into your 12vdc supply in your caravan?

      This was my idea, and researching right now, if this is a good idea. Anybody tried this, would like to hear about results!
      As many might know, 12V batteries tend to drift between ~14V and ~10V depending on charge status, that could have effects of the workings of my router and maybe even damage some circuits.
      Did anybody try this? Did it work? Did it work when the batteries are actively charged or almost empty?

    Hi , great little vlog , do you know if this cable would work in my caravan from my solar controller usb port to.power the tp-link on 12v , kind regards mike 😊

    Did the cable work long term or did you have to find another solution? Ive just ordered a TP link MR600 and want to be able to switch between using it in the house and van long term.

      Sorry for the delayed reply. The cable is still going strong but I went off grid last weekend and found that it drained the leisure battery really quickly. I have only used it with an electric hook up previously so this is worth taking into account.

    Hi, that's a great hack thank you. I've an Archer MR400 which takes 12v 1A and I've noticed that amazon cable has a max rating of 0.6A, just wondering whether that has anything to do with you only getting 2 signal bars when you usually get 3 ?

    Did it show you a light when it's connected with a normal cable to your car? I mean like how do you know that the cable is different from the normal USB 5V cables, putting into consideration that the light was very dim. Thumbs Up for the video!

      I think the lights displayed but the same, were very dim

    Perhaps a silly question as I am not an expert in things electrical but aren't USB sockets 5V, therefore how can they power a 12V device? Perhaps someone can educate me?

    • @ProjectBrinn
      @ProjectBrinn  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't fully understand how it does it but think it is something to do with the amps being used to generate more volts, don't quote me on that but it is still working but does drain the leisure battery very quickly.

    • @carlosfandango7171
      @carlosfandango7171 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bought one and whilst router powered up, it kept power cycling. Replaced with normal 12v cable socket and connector which was far more stable.

    Hi Brian, i bought the cable and the the tplink router. It works at home with the standard adapter, but in the car it's rebooting every minute or so. I think it's the 12v USB adapter I use, 12v to a double USB which says max 2.4A. Which one will work correctly?
