    Love this vid Kieron, I’m sat in my garden on the other side of the world, it’s 35° and summer storms are rolling around. I grew up in Runcorn in the 80’s and 90’s before I moved to Australia. Love that you’re riding an old steel rig, my days were spent riding around Cheshire on my now retro bikes. I’d love to come back with my Kona steel bike and ride my old haunts but your videos give the same joy.

    Another great Bimble, Kieren. Introduced your adventures to our 11yo. He enjoys them, and we make it a little something we watch together a couple of times a week🥰. He quite liked the steam fair. Soon I will take him back through the collection to show him the converted railways, he is a bit of a bike enthusiast and train nerd. Thanks for the family friendly entertainment and education 😊

    Nice video 👌
    The modern blue frame boat sculpture you passed with a female head Is supposed to be a representation of Ethelfleda I believe 🤔
    She had a round fortification on one of the now footings of Runcorn Bridge on What's known as castle rock, an outcrop mainly destroyed by the ship canal.
    I think it acted as a look out against those pesky Northumbrians 😁
    On wigg island, up untill fairly recently, there used to be a small visitors center, a round one with a viewing platform on its roof, this apparently was roughly based on the fortification at castle rock.
    I believe mustard gas was also produced at the works in at least one the world wars.

    Ha ha, we said hello to you when you were taking shots of the swing bridge. We were in the police van. Great videos mate, very informative. During WW2 Wiggs works was commandeered as part of the war effort. Mustard gas was produced there but never used. Much of it is allegedly buried under the tip at the back end of the island, hence the keep out signs………..

      Well, where to start@@BimblismUK ? There were some appearances of 'mysterious' Orchids there that only grew because of the polluted soil. During the War there was a mustard gas factory there, when we were tree planting we were told not to dig more than 150mm down - for fear of the chemicals that we might disturb. This isn't a very useful depth to dig when planting trees, even saplings! No one told the rabbits though, and they were busy tunneling away, they probably glowed in the dark too! It's rumored that the real reason is that the place is 'fenced off for nature' is that the land is still pretty toxic. With reference to the other side of the river - They also say that wooden boats were used on the Sankey canal at Widnes because the water there was so alkali, that metal boats corroded too fast. Also beneath Widnes (as a legacy of the chemical industry is a strange substance known by the locals as 'Galligu' occasionally it is found during building work and construction has to stop! A lot of these stories were captured by a folk band in a project called 'Smoking Dragons' - I wonder what happened to that project I still have their CD (remember those?) somewhere! Cheers for now, keep up the good work!

      No just keeping saracen in the game. He is marginally lighter which is a nice change. Although the peach perel is a larger frame so better on my back. :)

    Would Joseph Hartley be related to the Hartley family, of Hartley's jam, based in Hartleys village long lane, Liverpool L9.

    • @BimblismUK
      @BimblismUK  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I dont think so. I think the jam was manufactured in Liverpool but William Pickles Hartley was from Pendle in Lancashire (thats where the original shop was). You never know though. :)
