    I love using Steven Slate’s Trigger 2 and only adding the room sound samples in - like the chamber mic from Blackbird - that one is the best snare reverb EVER!

    That little boy is a beast.
    Probably would benefit from a little more power but that will come as he grows so.
    A bright future ahead of him.

    Gideon is an awesome player. Thanks for the great ideas on how to work with the drums in a mix. One question; Why stereo "large" room mics when all the sound has come through a doorway - I'm betting a single mic would be just fine for that as there isn't a stereo image of the drums, just the reflection in the larger room.

    • @chrisliepe
      @chrisliepe 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Even though it's a narrower stereo image, the two mics faced away from the drums and away from each other help with the bigness of the sound without it sounding too wide. A mono room tends to crowd the middle of the drum image, but this way, you get the best of both worlds!

    I feel like that stereo mic from Lewitt would work well for the big room mics.

    The sword of the Lord and of Gideon. Or maybe it's drumsticks instead of a sword. Either way he kills it.

    Thanks for the tips. Is gaffer tape preferable to moon gel to dampen the heads? Gideon is so talented.

    • @chrisliepe
      @chrisliepe 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've always used gaffers tape because I had it around and it worked great haha. Gideon prefers them too because they tend not to get in the way.

    Your son plays drums betters than most of the drummers I played with my entire life 😅

    what kind of mics are you using?

    i wonder how you avoid phasing betwean all these different microphones recording quite similar sounds

    • @chrisliepe
      @chrisliepe 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not an issue at all because of the way they are aimed and placed.

  • @Benthetenor
    @Benthetenor 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Sounds like your room mics are out of phase with each other. The image is skewed heavily to the right. It's pulling the whole kit that direction when you bring it in, which is an interesting choice.

    100% in favour of mic choices and placements, before running to some 'magic' plugins!!!
    Keep that kid working his feet. Sounding great already. I would say he has had a great environment to grow up in, but also he is a natural.

    Interesting video, however the title is misleading IMHO. This is by no means a big drum sound. I think it's a small to medium sound at best
