One of my favorite 35mm cameras. Maybe the best I ever owned. Coupled with a fast f1.2 lens, this thing was awesome. I shot a lot of medium format, but this was the top 35mm in my gear . I stopped all film shooting in keeping with the times. But I miss this one any time I think about the film era. Good video.
Thank you. I do it for fun so I don't have to worry about turn around times and really slow work flow. I don't have an f1.2 lens except a Pentax K. Is the FD that good?
@@52cameras54 Pretty good. I always got the best images from a Porst 55mm f1.2, k-mount. They can still be had for not much; but mirrorless photography has sure driven vintage lens prices through the roof.
I had and used the almost indestructible original F-1 for 33 years. To use an on-camera flash with the Canon F-1, you need the Flash Coupler D, which fits over the film rewind knob. You can see two electrical contact on the camera, behind the film rewind knob.
Hey really love your content this is amazing. What is your preferred camera you use for videomaking , I'd love to have a conversation and maybe even collaborate on different ways in telling stories through film!
Thanks! Most of the time, I still use a Nikon AW100 for these videos. It's a waterproof point-and-shoot but it does great video and I'm used to the interface so shooting goes smoothly. I recently got a camera that does 4K. I may not use it for these videos since we live in the boonies and it takes so long for 1080P, I literally start an upload and go to bed. I took a conversation out of the comments without publishing my info to the world but I don't remember how I did it. I'll check and get back to you.
I own Nikon & Canon. The new-F1 is together with my Nikon F3 my most used 35mm cam. I love both. The only difference is that new-F1 is only for FD lenses... the Nikon F3 takes nearly every Nikkor. But The Nikon F4 takes every Nikkor Lens. But: The new-F1 is so smooth and great to use...
In digital, I'm still mostly Canon. I have too many 35mm & I was very much favoring Nikon until the F-1N. I haven't fallen in love with any A series, except maybe the AL-1, even with its even dumber than the AE battery door. The F-1N made me see what Canon was capable of. I don't have an F3 or F4 (yet) but I think I understand - it's a professional camera.
"A" is advance, The Canon Corporation said The New F1 doesn't have a mirror lock-up because the shutter is so smooth it's not necessary, the main thing I miss on my three Canon F1Ns is an exposure lock.
I have two bodies that I use and are in good shape. I keep a third body for parts in case something breaks down. I have almost all lenses from 20 to 200mm. Love this camera! Funny thing, I went with Canon over Nikon because I'm left eye dominant and the old Nikon film cameras used the film advance lever to turn on metering, which poked me on the bridge of the nose. So I went with Canon.
ATG/Canon made this to be the last with interchangeable finder. Then later Nikon copied & last on the F5. While ATG's father never have interchangeable finder, made the best OM-3 (meter/or full mechanical camera) like Pentax LX. A special & limited productions for the pros, years later: ATG Canon EOS-1VHSr (10fps without needing or using Canon's bat)
Everyone ALWAYS gets the F-1 models wrong...the F-1, the F-1n / F-1N, and the F-1 New / New F-1, no thanks to Canon's usual unusual thinking. It's unfortunate Canon didn't make all the accessories compatible across all three models, or at least most or many of them that could have been compatible. This was a huge mistake, in my opinion. Another huge mistake was locking the TV Priority into the winder, and the AV Priority into the AE Finder only. (It's quite a big and heavy kit once it's assembled to unlock all the pro features.) There are some secret workarounds (sort of), but I really don't use mine a lot to worry about them. (Mine's in pretty much mint condition; I got it right before the used camera prices shot up (thanks to the hipsters).) Also, you can still use the mechanical shutter if your battery dies, but the battery must be physically removed in order to do this or else the camera won't work. (Ask me how I know this.) David Hancock TH-cam channel has some great video manuals on this and many, many other cameras. (Yes, he even got the F-1N nomenclature wrong, too.) It was nice seeing this video pop up in my feed again to watch one more time. I never really get tired of seeing F-1 videos. It really IS an awesome system.
Holy fuck shit you do know user manuals are online as PDFs….why the flying fuck do people talking about these great retro cameras have to recite the damn manual instead of actually talking about their experience or showing images they took with it
I am a Nikon guy but Canon F-1 looks like a solid camera- hope to try it out someday.
Happy New Year!
Good to see you back. Happy new year.
Thanks, it's good to be back on line. Happy New Year!

You lucky man. You and the F1 are very well suited it’s definitely gone to a good home. Enjoy. I hope to buy one very soon too.
The Canon AE-1 are so popular and also expensive today, might as well just go for a Canon F-1 which are underappreciated.
I couldn't pass this one up but I'd still like to get an original (1971 or '76 version). They have a reputation for being as tough as the Nikon F.
Thanks for the video, realy helpfull since I want to get mine F1 this week. Cheers from Norway
You're welcome, I'm glad it helped. Back at ya from New Mexico, USA.
My dream camera! I have that lens which I used on my A-1. I ended up selling that camera. Now saving up for this beauty and a beast
They are a bit pricey but worth it. It could literally be the last camera you have to buy.

Hi there, how does the AE finder on the finder work with FL lenses?

Cool channel
Thank you. Gonna try to be more active on it than I have been recently.
