    We too have an ePropulsion (on our small sailboat) and LOVE its lack of GAS :), reliability, speed, ease of use and QUIET. It is perfection.
    Out gunkholing recently the wind picked up alarmingly fast but the ePropulsion cut right through the chop and got us out of the bay and back into the protected creek with speed :)
    When we first read about it and called around, the designated MidAtlantic sellers were not well educated or were more interested in those lined up in their shop to buy bait.
    That’s when we found Luis at SkyBlu Adventures in St Augustine, FL. , who even sent us an extra anode. He knew ALL about the different models and has provided us killer customer support. Our entire experience has been A+++ Loving this motor.
    Hope millions sell, it’s great for the environment!!! Wonderful video. Really shows how easy it is from opening box to use.

    I have this very same motor and it is incredible. Once, in a storm, it went overboard in a marina and was submerged for 12 hours at a depth of 3 meters. We spotted it the next day, picked it up with the hook and it worked (and still does work) without problems.

    I had both this exact motor for 2 years now and also a Torqueedo and frankly, love the build of the eProp model, sturdiness ( metal fitting instead of plastic) floatability of battery and info given on the display. I do have to say that torqueedo has a 915 WH battery with a lot of power but had too many issues with the 2 plastic interconnects at random time. playing with a dysfunctional connector in a rush time is no better than cranking a stubborn 4 stroke gas engine... happy you liked it!

    Electric out boards are lovely. Silent for wild life if nipping in and out of coves. Charge off the wind or solar, no more petrol cans aboard.

    • @philgray3443
      @philgray3443 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have to admit using just paddles instead of a noisy motor makes the world of difference to how close you get to the wildlife. I'm looking to fit one in my kayak that I can swap to my tender. The only time I was glad of a powerful petrol motor was when rescuing a large sea turtle caught in fishing gear and an anchor chain.

    Funnily enough I was looking at that exact system last night and it's very impressive. What I like most is how light the whole thing is - no more trying to haul a 90 lb outboard over the rail! It can also be recharged from a folding solar panel. Pair this up with an Oceanvolt saildrive instead of a diesel motor and just imagine how much self-sufficiency you gain.
    I know Silje has gotten some mixed reviews from the hardcore sailors but I think she adds a real dash of character and spice to your videos and I hope we see more of her in the future (you'll love the North Sea in winter Silje, trust me😃)
    Looking forward to the Hebrides trip Erik.

    • @philgray3443
      @philgray3443 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The oceanvolt saildrives are awesome and cost about double the price of a diesel. Given Tessie is a €40,000 boat it might be over capitalising to put a €46,000 motor in it.The installation and infrastructure would be anything but cheap. If building from new and doing weekly races around the cans. It would be economical because there aren't the 100 hour services and all the other diesel issues. I would seriously consider it. However the insurance companies are getting very twitchy about lithium batteries now. I had to have my boat surveyed to ensure that I didn't have them at my last renewal.

    • @johnnewman8412
      @johnnewman8412 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@philgray3443 Very good points and in actuality my comment regarding Oceanvolt was geared more toward installing the system in a new build rather than attempting a retrofit. Understanding of the nuances of lithium ion phosphate battery technology, especially in the insurance industry, is at a developmental stage and we can only hope that the insurers get up to speed quickly on what sort of systems, for which type of use pose any sort of risk.

(I also watched another great documentary recently about a big yacht builder who makes them powered by electric, and they are becoming popular with the rich yacht buyers.) I bought an ePropulsion Spirit 1.0 Evo 2.5yrs ago. I loved it for the usual reasons but recently I’ve had problems with frequent error messages and cut outs.
    Last week it died totally when the battery was still 50% full. I was 2km from my boat and I had to row for 45mins against wind & tide to get back.
    I have now returned it to the dealer for repair. Meanwhile, I have put my trusty backup Yamaha o/b back on the dinghy.
    So please be aware even electric outboards like ePropulsion are not 100% reliable and they can let you down like any other outboard.

BTW, @erikaanderaa you can also charge it with a 12V charger, may be more efficient on the boat!

    I have been quizzzing lots of people on electric outboards as I am thinking of changing from petrol. Everyone says the same thing, Epropulsion are by far better than the Torqueedo and I believe the cheaper of the two. Yet to take the plunge. I do wonder on the longevity of the electrical cable connectors in such a hard (and salty) environment!

    • @iainmacdonald1170
      @iainmacdonald1170 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've used mine extensively the past 3 seasons and the cables still look like new. However, we store the battery down below when not in use and although the leg/attached handle live on a bracket on the pushpit we put a cover over them to guard against UV light. Other great advantages is that you don't have to go hunting around for petrol which can be quite hard in some ports these days. We love the fact that you can easily take the battery and leg off making the tender so much lighter to carry it up a beach. The ability to explore a beautiful spot without the noise and smell of a petrol engine has to be experienced to be fully appreciated. Together with the 'Ewincher' electrical winch handle its been the best investment we've made to keep us sailing as we've got older.
