thats funny i was just thinking to myself "hmm i wonder why this fan doesnt work" didnt realize it was tied to the AC system i dont have anymore. weird man, i feel like google reads my thoughts sometimes...
Thanks for sharing. It was very informative and useful. Have a 97 and I noticed the fan kicks in late. How did you connect the real temp gauge? Thanks!
I tapped into my heater core hose exit. used a brass t fitting with a mechanical probe. Wired gauge light to key on 12v (radio power wire works nice) and made a little gauge panel.
One of your fans should come on regardless of having a/c or not, once the ecu reads that the engine hits a certain temp. Test and make sure your fans are working
So, at the moment, I'm chasing an overheating problem. I came across this video and thought maybe a previous owner did this to my 90 Miata. The fan doesn't kick on automatically, but the idle jumps to about 1200 and stays there. I saw another comment say that his jumps too, but as far as I could tell, the engine is bogged down while on and the idle never settles like you said to him. Plus, his is boosted while mine isn't. I thought it was a broken fan sensor connector, but this video made me think a previous owner did this to bypass and just have manual fans. The AC was also removed, but I know nothing in terms in wiring so I have no idea what to look for or where
Ecu trying to compensate for ac compressor load that isnt there anymore.. 1500 rpm sounds high what is your base idle? Mine will jump from ~850 to 1100 ish for a second once i hit the fans then it idles normal
@@Simpyspec I just spliced a wire into the ground for the relay that controls the AC condenser fan. Ran it to a two-way switch, grounded the switch to the chassis, and added a fuse for good measure. Worked flawlessly.
idk if you've figured it out yet but, I'm still quite confused on how the previous owner did it. all i've been able to find is the blue wires jumped in the video behind the glove compartment, instead the previous owner attached it to an ignition wire so when you turn the key it gives power im assuming. When i bought the car all he saiid was "press the ac button if you're over heating, it kicks the ac fan on too", and didn't go into what he did. But ill check the high side pressure switch tomorrow to see if thats jumped. Ill come back to edit the comment if it is jumped and where to find it
@@John-pp6xy I couldnt get this to work for my 93 miata and i ultimately wired in a toggle switch just for the fans and i must say i like the switch way better. nice switches are literally just a couple of bucks and youll need several feet of 18 gauge wire but it literally only took me an hour to complete. i put the switch on the left side of my steering wheel next to my cruise control. theres a lot of good videos about how to wire a fan switch and i can also post one of my work if youd like
I ran the two things like you did and still my fans will not turn on. Engine speeds up like it should and nothing. My diagnostic ports dont turn the fans on, relay clicks, fuse is good, and fans turn on with dedicated power. I am at a loss here.
Check wiring between fans and relays. If you get fans to turn on with dedicated power but nothing else, start at the fan connection plug and chase your way back
I'll try it this weekend, running out of time to look at it tonight. I used to run the AC fan to the drivers side fan, and today it decided to stop working. Maybe I toasted the AC relay? Not sure which one powers the AC fan.

For a 1990 Miata, one the glove department is removed is it the
light green-black

Wires, and do I just jump them ?
Also curious
I deleted my AC and Neither of my fans turn on no matter what i do. is this what will fix my issue? TIA

@@clubtouge1052 my fans are brand new. It's the connecting plugs that are in the car that don't work.
No high idle now, thank you

With this mod your fans
should still work automatically as normal
So I did it on my 97 Miata and when I turn on the ac fan my idle jumps to 1500. Should I worry about it or just leave it

@@clubtouge1052 my car is boosted running on a voodoo box as well. That could be it. But normal idle is 8-900ish
I wonder if this process is the same on the NB... hopefully I'll return with some answers.
What's the prognosis
@@clubtouge1052 nope, but I ended up splicing into the harness to create a ground for the factory AC condenser fan relay.

If I have a ac is there a way to have both fans working still ?
