This is happening to me too! It started to shutdown around 15%, now it shuts down at around 30% now. I'm going to replace the battery myself this weekend.
Let me know how it goes.
I changed my battery last night. I ran a test before changing it and saw that it was turning off around 20%... it varies.
I am going to let the battery drain today and see if it is still happening. So far I charged it last night to 100% at around 8PM and this morning when I woke up at 7AM it was at 90%. Right now it's 11AM at 63% with regular usage.

I am not buying Huawei OR google phones again, if this is the kind of hardware they wish to provide to their customers. it was a nice phone - right up until it wasn't.
TheHysse it is definitely the battery. Mine used to shut down at 35% then 65% then 75%. I just opened my phone and changed the battery with one on Amazon. Works like a charm! Although total hours is about 12hrs screen on time compared to 20hrs on my LG v20, but at least it doesn't die in 30mins on full charge anymore 😁.

TheHysse oh oops 12hrs screen on time was with battery saver on. My LG didn't have battery saver on. The newer techs are amazing at battery saving!

I've just paid some tech guys to change my battery. It was expansive (as they also needed to change the frame), but so far, it works properly. I'll let you know if I experience any trouble (to warn)

TheHysse how much did they charge you? The Nexus 6P are one of the more easier smartphones to open so I'm curious to know how scummy they were.
There's two related problems with this phone's battery. For some people it's just a very quickly aging battery that becomes useless after 12-18 months. For others, it's the 8.1 update that *overnight* triggered the former problem with a snowball effect. While replacing the battery frequently fixes the problem in the short term, the OS issue that triggered the problem for some may happen again. Since my 8.1 update at the end of last year did this to my phone, I've had terrible battery life ever since. 8.1 has went through several updates since then, so I'm hoping the new battery I installed 30 minutes ago won't be killed by the OS. Google offered to replace Nexus 6p's with Pixels, but the offer was useless to most as the problem started just after the phone came out of warranty for the majority of people.

Okay, just to clear it up for you if you're unsure, it takes about 15 minutes to repair this and a new battery is $15. You absolutely unequivocally do not need to mess with the screen whatsoever to replace the battery, just remove the glass on the top half on the back and the plastic bit at the bottom, take out the screws and you're in.
Just do it yourself. Damn shame Google won't sort this though, I've had to fix my own because I had the same issue.
Mine is still going strong after almost 2 years, but a friend had this problem and swapped the battery himself which made it usable again.
This fucking thing dies at 60% battery and randomly reboots 20 times a day and I am about to smash it to bits maybe I'll video it.

I replaced my battery in the 6p. It went smoothly. I did not replace the LCD and it caused no problems. IFixIt was really helpful with the repair guide. I would recommend that you just replace the battery.
I had my battery start dropping two weeks ago from 20% and now I'm getting the bootloop issue where all I see is the "Google" screen and then reboots. I've had the phone for 14 months so I'm out of warranty as well and was quoted $300 to fix the phone from Huawei. I can't believe Huawei won't stand behind their product.
I purchased it through Amazon. The battery will be on 84% shut down, then say 0% then plug it up, and then says 65%. I purchased it in Mid May 2018.
Had my nexus 6p replaced about 3 months ago due to battery issues through google support, they were kind enough to replace my device despite it being about 2 months out of warranty and I really appreciated it. My replacement nexus was in good physical condition but they sent me the graphite/black color despite me having a arctic white nexus 64gb, since it had the same amount of storage and initially seemed to have better battery performance I was pretty happy despite that and a few cosmetic defects on the phones chassis that my original phone didn't have.
Has anyone here successfully RMA'd a replacement 64gb 6p that was replaced out of warranty and received a pixel xl 128gb? I'd prefer to not RMA my nexus but at this point I just want to wait for the pixel 2 and by that time I think that my previous experience with nexus and premium Android phones is making me consider finally moving to an iPhone. I've become quite tired of feeling like I need to justify my allegiance to android devices and then questioning why I've stuck with them because my nexus is unexpectedly shutting down just before lunch at 40% battery. I'm also constantly reminded of the battery issues because at any time I could pull my phone from my pocket with only chrome, outlook, textra or gmail opened since the device booted and it'll feel as hot as devices being put through a benchmark.
The reason the screen needs to sometimes be replaced is because the cable for the screen is under the battery, and the battery is fiercely glued on. People often damage this ribbon cable when removing the battery. It is difficult to do without damaging the cable, but I have done it. The trick that worked for me was to get my credit card just under the battery on both sides, and then carefully and slowly pry the middle up while being very cautious of where the cable was underneath it. You can look at a schematic or a picture online to see where it is located exactly. I fix mobile products all the time, and this hasn't been the most difficult, but was up there.
Mine randomly shuts off randomly at anytime below 70%. I've has this phone since April of 2016. I called Google since I bought it directly from them and they told me to call Huawei. Called Huawei and they told me to call Google. After the more recent update its gotten waaaaay worse. My battery will drain from 100% to 70 % in 10 min from just streaming audio with the screen off. Then once it gets below 70% it will randomly turn off.

Ya, I loved my Nexus 6P, but the battery issues really soured me to Huawei. I got mine from Telus so it didn't qualify for the replacement that Google offered to direct customers. Total bull. I'm waiting for a replacement battery. The first replacement only worked for a couple of weeks before it wouldn't charge anymore. I put the original back in and it would charge fine, but only lasts for an hour.
My wife and I both got these phones when they just came out. We have the same story as you. Absolutely love the phone, but man it just shuts off whenever it feels like it. I would like to know what the heck is going on. I'm in Canada on bell as well
This is not true at all. You don't need to replace the screen to replace the battery.
You pop the top and bottom covers off the back of the phone.
There are about 9 screws, remove them.
Then pop the phone out of the back cover.
Replace battery, and reverse steps to reassemble.

This is happening to me to an extent, it charges fine, but battery drains really fast, and will randomly say it's at 0% at random points, when it turns back on, it will say it has a very low battery percentage, way lower than what it had when it shut down. I love this phone, but it's pissing me off how the battery quits holding a charge well so fast, not getting another Google made phone again unless they can prove that the battery would last longer before it quits holding a charge
Just swapped my battery. So far so good. To my knowledge the battery has nothing to do with the digitizer/screen directly. The only thing you have to be mindful about is the ribbon cable for the screen is located under the battery so be careful when removing it or you could rip that cable right out.
Great video, I've had my Nexus 6p for about a year-and-a-half now had no issues with the battery knock on wood and hope it doesn't happen after I say this.
Happened to me last months and it got crazier when it's cold outside. Replaced the battery myself. Pretty easy and done in 30 minutes. Just make sure to have the right tools but it totally worth it, it's a great phone and really don't want to change anytime soon.
I'm having the same issues as well. I contacted Google directly and customer service suggested that i contact Huawei. From what I've read online, it seems pointless. Disappointing that Google and Huawei were not more proactive with this issue considering the number of complaints. It's too bad because really liked this phone and would have held on to it past two years, if not for the battery. Now I have to consider a new phone.
Same! I feel like there are so many people with this issue that us as consumers should be able to do something to change it. It's not right that Huawei is getting away with this.

FWIW, the screen isn't replaced when replacing the battery. I did it on mine. Later on, the battery started failing, and I had cracked the screen. It's no longer worth repairing. I got a used Pixel XL for less than the parts cost.
Same here. Owned this since december 2016 and had to switch to another phone few days ago as my nexus started to turn off at 30% battery level. Also I found Nexus to be extremely slow after latest updates.

I changed the battery in mine myself, yesterday. Took 30mins and cost £16 with a few tools.
Now it's as good as new.
Started to bum me out so bad when the battery died. It was barely over a year old. I don't know how someone can sell a phone with such an awful battery. I truly loved that phone.
I just replaced mine... $15 on eBay. So yes it sucks that you have to do it but it's not a killer. It's absolutely not true that you have to replace the screen to replace a battery
I've got a 64GB Nexus 6P which was bought straight from a Best Buy store in the US. What do you recommend me? Buying a battery and fix it to then sell it, selling it as a broken phone for replacements, or is there some sort of out-of-warranty replacement? Thank you, I'm desperately looking for an answer.

MateCvt I bought a new battery on ebay for $12. I installed it a week ago and it's now working like new. Fix it and keep using it. It's truly a great phone once the battery issue is corrected.

I am so bummed out because like clockwork my Nexus started having these battery issues right after I paid off my 2 year tab balance at Freedom Mobile. If I don't touch my phone at all it lasts about 4-5 hours. If I think about using it though... 2-3 hours. Like many others are saying it shuts down without warning at 30%. I have phone insurance through Asurion which was really over praised by Freedom. "Only $10/month and we'll give you a new phone when it craps out!" Not so much, they're offering to switch out my current phone with a Samsung Galaxy A5 for $129. I could also get a new battery put in at a local shop for $111. I don't know what to do... I really loved this phone and thought Google was better then this. Super disappointed.
You could buy a battery and replacement set on eBay and replace it yourself. It's actually pretty easy
I just brought the Nexus 6p and I had some issue with the battery . First it died at 30% , I was thinking ok imma charge it back and it will be fine. Then it died at 40% ... I was like , ok I'll try something else . What I did : I drained the battery completely , I opened TH-cam started a video 8h long , it died , then I opened the recovery menu , witch was working with "0%" and I opened the barcode menu , let it sit until died on it's own , I charged 100% then I did downloaded the pcmark app for Android , run the battery test , was draining till 18% completed the test no problem , then I played some games to drain it completely again , opened the barcode to be sure it will drain completely. I then charge it back to full , and it seems to be working properly now . I have 53% now and I'll keep trying to recalibrate the battery ... But now it's better than it was ...
Similar happened to me. Started shutting off at 10%, then 20%, now it's sometimes 30% and it dies. Sad. Picking up a OP5T soon.

I have the exact same problem. Thanks for putting out this video. I was just out of warranty when I had this problem. I called Google Customer service and they told all kinds of BS to turn off this app and that app etc. Finally I found an app that shows the issues with battery and it confirmed that it was an issue with the battery. I hate to loose my hard earned 600 dollars to stinking rich company like google. I decided never to buy any product from google ever again. They are just good for searching and thats it. Please share class action lawsuit link and I will put my name out there.
I did the same thing your wife did and now my phone has to stay hooked to a charger or it will die in a matter of minutes. It does not turn on until it's hooked back up. Sometimes it even shuts off while it's plugged in. I really like this phone but would like to not be stuck to cord. What should I do? Replace the battery and with what?
Having problems with mine as well for the last couple of months. It tends to die at around 15% when I try to do anything during battery saver mode, but the battery drain is really crazy. I have to charge it 2-3 times per day and rapid charging no longer seems to really work. It charges pretty slowly and gets very hot. My charging port seems to also be a bit damaged as it has difficulty detecting the cable and the slightest nudge might make it stop charging. Extremely frustrated with it since I absolutely love this phone and have no interest (nor money) in getting a new one. Considering doing a battery replacement myself but not sure if it's worth it considering the risks.
Called Huawei - battery replacement is $65 CAD, 3-5 day turnaround. Local repair shops do it for close to that as well. Batteries are $30 on amazon. Replacement is a bit finicky for a diy, but it's doable - lots of videos on YT show you how.
Mine have battery issue as well but another annoying problem was the pop up message “google keeps stopping” appears all the time even I did a factory reset. Had a chat with customer services but they coulnt help anything and they blame for the new os and told me to do the factory reset ( in fact I did it twice). Now I am happy with my 8 plus and never come back to Android again

estimated capacity of 933mAh whereas the original capacity was 3450mAh!
For a $600+ phone this is not acceptable. I'm out of warranty so I either have to risk replacing the battery myself or getting another phone.
have the same problem. shuts down when below 70%, i can reach down to 65% or i can reach down to 15% its completely random. try to start it again and it boots up and says 1-10% then immediately shuts down again. plug in the charger and start again? Voilà it says 50% and still dies if i remove the charger.

Daniel Lukaszewski the screen was fine, but the back glass cover for the camera was destroyed. I've recently started experiencing the same issue. I got this phone in fall of 2016 and now the battery will die and the phone randomly shuts off anywhere from 15-45% battery. I did a factory reset to see if that solves the issue but I'm having doubts.
I've had mine for almost a year now. I've seen it turn off at 80%. Turn it back on it's at 1%. Plug it on the charger and it's 80% again. I was still covered by warranty so I send it to Huawei and they sent me an email after receiving it that they wouldn't fix it. They sent it back and immediately noticed my original back was white and this one was black. They changed my battery. They had actually corrupted my device re locking my bootloader and I tinkered around with it and got rid of the red corrupt message. Working great now.
This same thing just happened to me! I love this phone for the most part, but about a three months ago, it started dying at 5%. Fast forward to about last week, and it was dying at 30%. I ended up replacing the battery myself. I DID NOT HAVE TO REPLACE THE SCREEN. However it was not as easy to fix as the iPhones I have worked on. After this battery replacement it is now working and charging fine. New batteries are $12 on average but it isn't the easiest replacement. Definitely do able without replacing the screen tho
My 6P's been doing this ever since I got it. Today, I had a few apps on whilst listening to music, and it ran out at 70%. When I turned it back on, it was at 1%. What the fuck, Google?! DO SOMETHING, DAMMIT!!! (sorry for yelling, but those are my thoughts exactly)
I've had my Nexus 6p for 2 years now and the battery has been my biggest and only gripe. It's true, 60% and less you're at risk for a "0% battery powering off". It's especially frustrating when you're shopping and you're looking at your grocery list on your phone and boom it shuts off. Google won't do anything if you're out of warranty and when in warranty, they just charge it and send you a letter/email saying it's fixed. Other than the battery issue it is a excellent phone. One of the best out honestly.
Unfortunately the vast majority of us who had/have this issue it occurs just after the warranty expires. How convenient eh?
yep this happens to me now... first it would power down at 20%, then at 50%, 60% 70% and NOW it shuts off at 93%... but I bought my nexus 6P from Best Buy 1 year ago so I'm fucked and can't get a replacement.

I have this phone and after 1 year and I have the same issues. It's gotten to the point where i have to carry a battery pack and eve with it saying 45% battery and it dies. It is so upsetting!!

Yup having the same problem. Had the bootloader issue sent it in for warranty and was covered. Had to pay for shipping. Now almost out of contract and have the battery issue. Just gonna get a new phone and go month to month. Have a Nexus 5 and that still works great. Hauwiue never again. Even contacted Hauwieu and they will replace the battery for $70. So disappointed in the service.
I have changed a battery for Google Nexus 6p it turns on okay but than after while the battery is keep draining. And we it's not even turning on.
Mos Def. Battery problems and GPS problems and lag are having me look into a new phone. I already replaced the battery twice but it keeps happening in the long run.
I have the exact same issue with mine, however; I did get mine second hand on ebay. I total agree, this phone is excellent in everything single way except for the battery. I took a look at some do it yourself videos and I don't think I'll be attempting that feat. Needless to say, I bought a new phone today and will be trying to resell mine on ebay (don't worry I will disclose the battery issue).

I've owned this phone for a year and a half. Haven't had any of the issues you talk about! However, I have heard that some other people have. You say, and I agree, that it's an almost perfect phone. But you don't think it's worth $150 to save??? If your $6000 car needed a $1500 repair would you trade the car in? It must be nice having lots of money in your disposable world.
I am out of the warranty with same issue with battery, I even was going to buy a new phone. But I ordered a new battery and replaced old one. One month use, so far so good. I suggest battery replacement.

no the digitizer does not get messed up when you take the battery out that's a load of bull. I just swapped mine with a bigger battery.

Mine shuts off between 40% and 60%. I also have the noise-cancelling microphone problem. Nobody can hear me unless I yell or use the speakerphone or blutooth.

My wife and I have had an essentially identical experience....we own 2 6P's...they are wonderful phones in so many ways ... but this battery issue has become so severe that we're going to have to replace my wife's phone due to its unreliability from random power shutdowns.. We reported problems before warranty expiration. Google offered to repair the phone for $150 but we'd need to return the phone. They said the repair would take two weeks so it's not really an option for either of us. We also have another problem common to many 6P users - the call quality is unreliable - often but not always the person I'm talking to can't understand what I'm saying. I won't go into the details of this issue except to say that it's a complex problem with the phone that may be related to certain network issues in combination with the noise reduction circuitry. Google must be aware of the problem - it is widely discussed on many forums and has precipitated a class action suit but Google is silent. I'm an engineer by trade ... I like many things about Google and generally find them to be an exemplary corporate citizen..... I wish they would handle this differently.
My Nexus 6p dies at between 30% and 45% depending on what activity is happening at the time, e.g. video kills it very quickly. It needs charged every few hours now, even for modest use. Warranty from google store has been voided because of a hairline crack in the rear camera glass panel, nothing to do with battery life at all. Very frustrating
Got this phone around Feb 2016, and just two years later it shut down around 30% and the battery drains extremely fast, Only last an hour if I play games on it or 4 hours if I use some apps and send some emails. This battery is just absurd.
Maybe there is something to do with environment temperature cuz I live in AU and north part of China, roughly 35℃ to -20℃
My Nexus 5x bootlooped and it was a PAIN to get the warranty service from LG Canada. I had to send a complaint email but luckily I got it replaced
My Nexus 6P just started doing this the last month. It's so bad, I had it plugged in all night and it never hit 100%. On my way to work lost 10% while plugged in my car, and lost 20% more on the way to my desk. WTH
Yep mine is shutting shown at 50 and sometimes 60%, I'm pretty sure it's a battery issue so I'm going to a repair store to replace it next week.

This happened to my dads 6P and he just had a new battery installed and boom issue fixed for only $40.

So I had my battery replaced a week ago, now I'm finding that when I take a photo in HDR+ mode the phone automatically shuts down while trying to process the photo. The only way I can restart the phone is buying plugging it in. Anyone else have this problem and/or a solution? I have called Google and Huawei support and neither said they have heard of this issue...I found some similar issues in a Nexus 6P forum. Tried clearing the Cache and that only worked temporarily.
Carol Hopper Maybe refitting the camera connector might help. It could all be a faulty connection. Or go back to the place that replaced your battery and tell the install caused another issue.
I started having issues with my battery literally 1 WEEK after my 1 year warranty in August with my phone provider (Rogers). In the beginning, it would die at 20%, then it gradually became 60% and now it's at 90%. I can barely check an email, send one text, make one phone call or even look for directions before it dies out on me. And sadly I no longer have my old HTC One M7 since we decided to give that to a relative to use.
When I went to Rogers they told me that their strict policy was that they can't do anything. Like how convenient that I got this problem just when my warranty expired. I never had issues with any previous phones. My 6P was my second smartphone.
So the only way to fix it is to change the battery ?
I read that it's possibly the kind of RAM or flash memory on the specific device. Toshiba being the more reliable.
I'm from Mexico and I've got mine on january 2016. Bought it from ebay. In september 2017 my battery started failing. Now it dies at 35-40%. I recently bought a replacement battery coming from Canada. Never arrived but the seller offered me a refund. It sucks to have a bad letter post in my country! If you know a seller which offers selling to Mexico with a particular courier (Fedex, DHL, any reliable) please let me know!

I am a mobile repairer. i found same issue with my 6p running android 8.0 Oreo. i disassembled my mobile and found some shortage well i ignored it and i tried following steps to solve the problem..
1. i upgraded it to android pie 9.0 custom rom by twrp but it was same
2. i upgraded it to android Q 10 but same it was before
3. i downgraded it to marshmallow 6.0 but no luck
4. i tried all android versions from android 5.1 to android 10 (both official and custom roms) nothing happened.
than i found that its not actually softwere issue than i follow these steps of hardware..
1. replaced the battery with original one with no luck
2. i found the shortage and fixed it but problem was same
3. i replaced battery with other brands used higher mAh batteries etc but nothing just happened.
At Last I found a dustbin and thrown it to in problem completely solved :)
i have 2 and i put in battery with out changing the lcd?? they work but the battery life is bad like it has short. i charge to 100 and turn it off and dead by the am. one shows .5 amp and one is at .2 amp this is power off. i am done working on this the man im doing the work for is not happy. i will show him your video. thanks
This just started happening to me a couple weeks ago. My phone is dead at 50 percent. I'm barly getting any on screen time.
Realize this is a year later, but I am having this exact issue now. It will only work while plugged in now. Super frustrating. Trying desperately to make it till the pixel 3 confess out. Anyone actually successfully Sue for a new phone?
Love Nexus 6p other than battery! I recently replaced replaced battery and still have issue with powering down at 30%. Issues is with hardware for sure!
I was having the same issues and changed the battery my self. I bought it for 15€ and took me 10 minutes to change. Now my phone is better than new. Because all those battery optimization that are on the new version of Android, now the battery last more that when I bought it 2 years ago.
same things happend to me too. i just got a pixel 2xl last week and i would HIGHLY recommend anyone who enjoys stock android do the same. Zero battery issues out the box and when u opt into the android p beta the battery is even better. been charging once every 36 hrs
this happens to mine also. recently I'm only getting about 45 minutes on screen-on time. i have no clue what to do as i have bought it from another country. let me know if there's any option for me!!!
Used accubattery app and predicted about 28% health, meaning the battery went from 3450mah to under 1000mah...mine shuts down at about 45%...

Whoa TJ was looking for vids on this problem and saw you had one.! I bought this phone Dec 2015. The first year the phone was amazing but shortly the battery issues started. Mine really likes 37% as it's shut down percentage but if i don't use it at all and it's still at 70% but hasn't been connected to a charger for a day it will die then too. blah.. decided to upgrade to an S8+ recently but still trying to use this as my back-up work phone.. factory reset, etc. nothing works.
Mine goes off at 60% I have the zero lemon battery case on it now and although it still turns off I can charge it from the zero lemon case without having to charge it from a wall charger.

Nexus 5 had the same issue, now after a year and 6 months my 6p dies at 60%. Im sick of this reoccurring issue with nexus phones. I love the stock android feel, but no longer worth the struggle. My next phone will be the s8. I will gladly accept the touchwiz lag over then unpredictable nexus battery life
I bought by Nexus 6P in February 2016 and used Project Fi, the network was garbage, still is, I recently switched over to Verizon and figured what the heck, the phone is paid off and unlocked so I'll take it with me, well I just had my first 40% battery shut off. A few times before it went off at 20 percent and I thought it was just a safety feature, I looked it up on Google just a moment ago and saw countless others with the same issues which led to this video. It hasn't ever really done this before and I can only hope this isn't the start of a daily occurrence...
Happening to me, too. Randomly ranges from 70-30% when it randomly shuts off.
