There's nothing depressing about Moira . She 's on a deadline obviously so no time for grief or remorse . Only dedicated to fulfill her ...uh... objective ?
It’s a matter of perspective. Like Zen said: “Someone always cares, you must simply seek them out.” Moira is dedicated to her craft and wants to find a way to regress decay, even if she takes her own life doing so. Lifeweaver however, seems to care in a way, given how he sounds worried in one of their interactions: Lifeweaver: “What is your fascination with artificial decay?” Moira: “To reverse entropy we must tame it.” Lifeweaver: “But inflicting it on yourself? You’re withering away!” Moira: “I’ve always thrived under a deadline.” Moira does not care, but Lifeweaver does. That’s what makes it depressing. Then again, it’s a matter of perspective.
I think Moira's character as a whole is what's depressing. She herself may not be particularly sad or distressed in any way, but you can clearly tell that she's likely just adapted to her shitty life. I see her as one of those "It is what it is" characters. No matter what pain or difficulties she may experience, it means nothing to her as long as she just keeps working. She's an obsessed workaholic with ambitions that are clearly beyond her grasp, yet she constantly pursues them nonetheless, even though it may break her. I think the saddest part of her character is her desperation for understanding of science and the evolution of mankind. An ambition always in the back of her mind, yet so far out of reach.... Or who knows, maybe I'm just looking into it too much🤷♂️
@@pokimanefartcompilationthat’s not depressing man. Super weird to me how you hit the nail on the head in every way except realizing she did this to herself (and others), and finds enjoyment in doing so. She’s clearly a largely inquisitive person, and she risked her life in the name of science.. on purpose. She quite literally a “mad” scientist (as in crazy, twisted). It’s not depressing cuz she’s getting exactly what she wants and by her convos with mercy, genji, & sombra, it’s apparent she wouldn’t consider her own life “shitty”. If anything it’s just scary how twisted she is
@@BlooBoi23 I think you may have missed my point. I wasn't necessarily saying that Moira herself is depressed, but rather her character is depressing from an outside perspective. But look, if you disagree with me that's totally cool. Personally I just really like Moira's character and I enjoy when villains have multiple layers to them rather than just being cartoonishly evil.
Arguably, we don't even know her motives. People wake up in the morning and decide to paint their bedroom, or try a new hairstyle because they feel ambitious. Nobody just turns to unethical science to reverse decay, at a potential risk to their own life, as an attempt to perfect the human genome just because they woke up one day feeling ambitious. I have a feeling that there's most likely something that happened to cause the unethical experimentation. Something we might find out eventually. Or would have, if some sort of PvE campaign were happening. Which it isn't.
I think a rather tragic concept is that even if Moira succeeded in her plans, she will likely die soon after, and all of her success would likely be given to the only person who would actually be able to use it, Angela.
If so, we have an opportunity of a great conclusion to the story of two rivals: after succeeding in her findings and discovering a way to literally reverse aging and death, Moira is met on her deathbed by Angela, saying that through all the horrors she caused and endured, she finally found a way to make people's lives better. Angela comes to realisation of what Moira had achieved, and tried to help her, but ultimately failed. Dying, Moira gives Angela all of the rights to use and develop her discoveries, because, at the end of the day, both of them were serving one goal - to make world a better place. After Moira's death, Angela forgives her enemy and firstly thinks of following her last wish, using the data as her own, but at the end decides that because of the horrible methods of collecting that data, she won't be able to live peacefully if she labels it as her discoveries, ultimately giving the credit to Moira O'Dornan while presenting the data to the global science and continuing the work in the memory of her past rival.

A couple of months ago, I was thinking about what Moira's ult would look like if she were the opposite of Mercy. And I just imagined that in this case she would also "resurrect" her ally from the dead, but then this ally will become a "monster" (as in Moira's experiments on living beings) with alternative abilities and ult, but with rapidly fading HP, which can only be restored by damaging the enemies or Moira's heal.
you don't wanna know how many cute animals are sacrificed for research every year. this is a thing that kinda bothers me about how they make moira seem vile for experimenting on rabbits like sure..it's sad but realistic. Tbh mercy feels like such a fake in comparison because no way can you scientifically advance like her without experimenting on animals at least several times, i mean it would be kinda reckless to work directly on people the first times, if you think about it.
@@chita8908 Is Mercy even a scientist/researcher? Pretty sure she's just a Doctor who is very talented at healing people. She doesn't have any vision or will besides helping people in the moment. That's why she even says that line about how she'd rather wait for progress than "do harm", not realizing that most of the healing she does to people most very likely comes from other researchers who pushed the boundaries.
@@amos_fr6070 frankly i'm not so sure but didn't she create the nano technology she uses for healing (the tech that Ana suposedly stole from her). This is why Moira respects her so much (when she tells her she can come to Oasis) despite Mercy's constant jabs at her. And creating such technology out of nothing, without any proper testing on something else prior to testing it on people and for that thing to just work perfectly because Mercy is so talented seems kinda...unrealistic but I digress, it's some game lore we're talking abt anyway. So in a way I'd say that she was at one point a scientist even if she curently does more healing than research.
I would’ve included Moira’s interaction with Mei here, I forget the exact wording but Moira seemed genuinely excited to discuss Mei’s cryogenic research and Mei just shuts her down, claiming they don’t have a common goal to warrant collaboration.
And Moira ends it with a punch to the gut: “Of course… I’ve heard you prefer working *alone*” Also according to another comment this line changes with the mythic skin but I can’t confirm since don’t have it
Ok, but Mei shuts her down gently? She says that their methods don't match which they don't, also from Mei's perspective, Moira could also come off as a little intimidating/scary. Also Mei clearly sounds uncomfortable but still wants to be nice (atleast in my opinion) She is telling Moira "No I don't want to", politely
She has a newish especially brutal one with Mei Moira: I've read your report on cryogenically preserving severed appendages. I'd be happy to assist in your research. Mei: No thank you. I don't think our methodologies are very aligned. Moira: Of course... I've heard you prefer working *alone*.
Also... she actually has TWO positive (or neutral?) ones with Sombra (shockingly) in which they seem to be joking with each other Sombra: You stopping in to see Max? I love how you make him squirm. Moira: Mm, it's amusing. I don't even experiment on Omnics. Sombra: ...yet? Moira: *laughs* Yet. Sombra: You ever broken patient confidentiality? Moira: I can't say. Sombra: You're good.
@waitselljones8068 She has a slight twist on the mei one if you have the mythic skin on .Instead of her saying mei prefers working alone .She says come now doctor I'm only trying to help
Quite late to this, but her tone in those voicelines is very sarcastic, like she's mocking him. It would make more sense as she seems to mostly exasperated/annoyed with him in her other interactions.
the mercy and moira interactions only really make me dislike mercy more tbh. i dont condone the things moira has done but damn atleast she actually cares about helping people get better to the point that shes experimenting on herself and risking her own death. the frustration in the line “how it must feel to be entitled to patience” plays it out perfectly
Huh? We don’t know much about Moira’s lore but there isn’t enough info if she actually cares abt other ppl vs doing it for her self. It could be implied, but we have more information on mercy actually caring about others
Her interaction with Lifeweaver still just hits so hard. Her committment to her own work and studies is close to insane, slowly killing herself for science
Really love her. Not only for being a redhead and extremely intelligent but for her cynicism and sarcasm, that's an attitude one develops after dealing too many annoying people.
The pause after weavers interaction followed up by a joke to play it off says a lot about her. She is undeniably a bad person however she definitely wasn’t always that way considering she had to take a moment to process that weaver wasn’t expressing any negative emotions towards her other than pure concern for her wellbeing, and since she never really receives any type of positive interactions she doesn’t know how to properly reply about her situation she just plays it off.
Uhh, the voiceline with lightweaver allways gives me chills and I also can relate more to Moira. I risk even my own healthyness to get closer to my goals.
“I’ve always thrived under a deadline.” I love this reponce because not only does she disregard other people’s lives but her own as well and it’s so badass.
“when we’re younger, we’re taught the distinction between a hero and a villian. good and evil. saviour and a lost cause. but what if the only real difference is just who’s telling the story?” reminds me of moira and all the other supports🙁 i love her so much
"What a joy it must be to be entitled to patience." This. This is the line that put me on moira's side forever. So many problems in the world left on the backburner which, if more people were willing to go gloves-off for them, could be fixed quickly and efficiently. The difference being those at the top can keep things the way they are and still be comfortable, while those at the bottom just continue to suffer.
Mercy has developed technology to decrease aging, but only used it in herself. She also has a no harm policy and uses her scientifical discoveries to heal people, hence the primary gun. The problem of this all is that she rivals with Moira, that has a sped-up deadline on her lifespan and ignores moral values when testing. It's completely different to say you'd wait a century when you're probably immortal and the person by your side is testing every day with a limited lifespan.
Whats more depressing is that theres a voice line where sigma does not like to be with talon but sombra tries to make him feel better and in this voiceline there is a continuation to that which shows how sombra really is not that bad of a person just in the wrong path
I don't say that moira had any right to turn Reaper and Widowmaker to that what they are now, but I understand her point. She wants to create progresse as fast as possible

There is one thing I can agree with Moira on. Sometimes in order to succeed I progress, we must always push the boundaries that hold us back. However she forgets that the more you take, the less you have...
The lifeweaver one is pretty sad. Moira isn't used to people acually caring about her, and Lifeweaver acually being concerned for her heath kinda got to her. You can tell based on that little pause she does before responding.
You know I feel sad for Moira. And hearing how things are for her I just wanna give her a hug tell her everything will be alright and that she is more then just what she can do for others and that she matters too
I understand Moira’s desire for progress no matter what to an extent. How many lives could be saved and how many diseases cured, limbs regrown, and painful conditions reversed if we didn’t worry about harming test subjects? It’s not moral of course, but to her the ends may justify the means.
This is why Moira is my favorite charecter she’s a very complex and amazing charecter no matter what you gotta hand it to blizzard they know how to make characters I believe she’s not a villian but more a neutral anti hero she dosent want world domination like doom fist the only reason she’s with talon is because they fund and help her with her scientific endeavors she only wants science to move forward and to help others she’s even willing to harm her self in the process look at her overwatch 2 skin lifeweaver is right she is practically killing herself for that experiment and it’s amazing to see her shock that instead of someone only careing about what her experiments offer like doomfist or the ethical debates like mercy lifeweaver is actually worried about the damage it’s doing to her mercy is a sad charecter she was basically shunned by the science world because they thought her experiments were unethical and sure while that could be a proper point sometimes the results and the good it can do does out of it outweighs the efforts it took to make it I love Moria and I hope they keep adding to her lore I would love to to see her maybe defect from talon maybing feeling bad about sigma (which btw I love that sombra is his bf and protector) and maybe she kinda goes out on her own even maybe helping overwatch
There's an interesting connection between Moira and Reaper's powers. Both of their attacks have a form of lifesteal, and both of them have abilities that makes them ethereal. In Overwatch 1, there was a common theory that Mercy held some responsibility for Reaper's condition but that Moira turned the condition into a weapon. If that's true, she may have also proliferated those abilities to herself, which would explain why she, too, is withering now.
For anyone wondering Moira is essentially a portrayal of Jeckyl and Hyde; someone who meant well but became corrupted by their own works. She is evil but more so in a way that she’s less empathetic. She doesn’t care, all she wants is to complete her experiments. Moira has the potential to be a good person but she’s let herself be consumed by her work for far too long. That’s why Angela brings up their “ethical obligations” because at the end of the day, Moira is still a doctor. One who prefers to prioritize her own madness over the safety of her patients or rather test subjects.
I respect Moira she knows that she dont have time left and using this time to make humans less miserable, i know its future where almost everything can be cured but still humans are too weak and she wants them to be more happier
you missed her most depressing interaction. when she asks to work with mei and mei declines and moira says something like "i've heard you prefer to work alone" hinting at all of mei's colleagues who died. it was so cold even for moira.
Exactly, and Mei, honestly wasn't even rude about it, she literally just politely declined her offer ToT Moira: I've read your report on cryogenically preserving severed appendages. I'd be happy to assist in your research. Mei: No thank you. I don't think our methodologies are very aligned. Moira: Of course. I've heard you prefer working alone.
Only really "depressing" line out of all of this is Lifeweaver's one. She seems in control in all other interactions and has some wit to parry jabs at herself, but not here. She slips a bit, it almost looks defensive. Doesn't help at all, that Niran is basically only one who is expressing concern towards her and not distaste, disgust or simple formal etiquette. Genevieve's delivery is so absurdly good.
Moira isnt really evil in a way, just if science didnt have laws, we could rapidly save more lives than lose, this is coming from someone studying medicine
I throughly enjoy Moira as a character. They don't say as much, but I suspect she has some kind of genetic disorder or a terminal disease and that's what's driving her to make strides in medicine... regardless of what happens so long as she can make that progress to get to the results *she* needs to survive
i like how she actually humored winstons periodic table joke I may not favor what she's done in the lore- but i do like her a substantially more after that little interaction
Such a well written character...her and sigma are my favorite. I love her witty interactions but I still do wonder to this day why is she going to such extremes because you can see she is not that evil but like she is tied to a deadline...is she trying to revive a loved one from a decay of some sort or what, I honestly doubt it's her own desire for knowledge that would push her to do those extreme things. Even her answer to Mercy "What a joy it must be to feel entitled to patience" feels like she is in a hurry to discover something...
Moira is probably the most interesting character in Overwatch. Morally complex, very intelligent, and singularly focused on furthering scientific progress through any means necessary, including sacrificing others, and herself.
Her personality is the main reason i ended up having her as my main. If i want to rank higher i need to learn others too but she's always gonna be my fave
0:44 I don't like that Mercy voiceline because as Moira says, must be nice feeling entitled to patience. Like yeah, her experiments are a grey area at best but that's how progress is made for good or bad.

Lifeweaver however, seems to care in a way, given how he sounds worried in one of their interactions:
Lifeweaver: “What is your fascination with artificial decay?”
Moira: “To reverse entropy we must tame it.”
Lifeweaver: “But inflicting it on yourself? You’re withering away!”
Moira: “I’ve always thrived under a deadline.”
Moira does not care, but Lifeweaver does.
That Gengi interaction really has a Biopunk Vs Steelpunk vibe
no ones mentioned her interaction with junkrat that lowkey implies she experiences chronic pain from her arm.
@Skarrier that kinda sounds nice but blizzard removed the story
@@SkarrierO'Deorain I think idk ,nice plot tho. I love Moira she's very much a grey character but deep down good she just is making too many sacrifices because she feels responsible since she believes she is capable of helping people with her research results.
@@Skarrier Too bad Blizzard is too retarded to come up with something like that, like they can't even keep their current story timeline straight look at everyone ages. (mainly Kiriko, Hanzo, Genji and Mercy, Pharah. McCree too, sorry, Cassidy.)
the way she carries herself so melancholically and lightheartedly through her suffering is so sad
I’ve always found Moira’s character so relatable, she’s neither evil nor good. She’s… more than any of that crap.
id argue shes fairly evil... considering she is apart of Talon which is literally a terrorist group.
@@CheeseGlace But she's literally there because they fund her research while also not caring about the ethics of it, in her way of thinking The end DOES justify the means, if it means creating immortality or a cure for every disease ever.
@@KalleDemos666 exactly, it’s UNETHICAL science. She is sadistic and has many voice lines hinting at the brutality of her experiments. Not to mention yeah she literally is being funded by terrorists, and her research will certainly be weaponized by Talon, just like Reaper and Widow

i wonder if we will ever get a "what if" skin for genji where moria was the one who rebult him and not mercy
A couple of months ago, I was thinking about what Moira's ult would look like if she were the opposite of Mercy. And I just imagined that in this case she would also "resurrect" her ally from the dead, but then this ally will become a "monster" (as in Moira's experiments on living beings) with alternative abilities and ult, but with rapidly fading HP, which can only be restored by damaging the enemies or Moira's heal.
perhaps during the alternate universe theme next season?
@@AquaPurePearlVoice o we are?
Wonder how many cute little rabbits were er... needed to achieve this level of scientific confidence ?
you don't wanna know how many cute animals are sacrificed for research every year. this is a thing that kinda bothers me about how they make moira seem vile for experimenting on rabbits like sure..it's sad but realistic. Tbh mercy feels like such a fake in comparison because no way can you scientifically advance like her without experimenting on animals at least several times, i mean it would be kinda reckless to work directly on people the first times, if you think about it.
@@chita8908 agree .That's DVa being naive to Say the least

How most people are to moira players XD
I would’ve included Moira’s interaction with Mei here, I forget the exact wording but Moira seemed genuinely excited to discuss Mei’s cryogenic research and Mei just shuts her down, claiming they don’t have a common goal to warrant collaboration.
And Moira ends it with a punch to the gut: “Of course… I’ve heard you prefer working *alone*” Also according to another comment this line changes with the mythic skin but I can’t confirm since don’t have it
@@TheDarkPeasantthere’s another variation where she makes a joke responding with “I was just looking to lend a hand”
"ive always thrived under a deadline" ouch
It’s actually wild how Moira has literally 1 positive interaction in the game
I mean, she tortures innocent people and creatures for a living. Nobody likes her.
She has a newish especially brutal one with Mei
Moira: I've read your report on cryogenically preserving severed appendages. I'd be happy to assist in your research.
Mei: No thank you. I don't think our methodologies are very aligned.
Moira: Of course... I've heard you prefer working *alone*.
Also... she actually has TWO positive (or neutral?) ones with Sombra (shockingly) in which they seem to be joking with each other
Sombra: You stopping in to see Max? I love how you make him squirm.
Moira: Mm, it's amusing. I don't even experiment on Omnics.
Sombra: ...yet?
Moira: *laughs* Yet.
Sombra: You ever broken patient confidentiality?
Moira: I can't say.
Sombra: You're good.
@waitselljones8068 She has a slight twist on the mei one if you have the mythic skin on .Instead of her saying mei prefers working alone .She says come now doctor I'm only trying to help
completely forgot about her conversation with Sigma about his time with the faeries, shes so soft and gentle with him in that its so sad
Quite late to this, but her tone in those voicelines is very sarcastic, like she's mocking him. It would make more sense as she seems to mostly exasperated/annoyed with him in her other interactions.
she's definitely one of the most interesting characters in ow
the mercy and moira interactions only really make me dislike mercy more tbh. i dont condone the things moira has done but damn atleast she actually cares about helping people get better to the point that shes experimenting on herself and risking her own death. the frustration in the line “how it must feel to be entitled to patience” plays it out perfectly
what gives you the impression that shes doing it because she cares about other people…
Huh? We don’t know much about Moira’s lore but there isn’t enough info if she actually cares abt other ppl vs doing it for her self. It could be implied, but we have more information on mercy actually caring about others
In my opinion, the only thing she cares about is knowledge.
Tbh i miss the old voice line with cassidy, on route 66
Moira: "this is your home" or some like that
Cassidy: "im from texas."
D.va "How can you experiment on those cute rabbits?"
Moira "Easily."
💀
What a joy it must be, to feel entitled to patience. That hits hard
The only truly sad interaction with Moira is when Wrecking Ball and Mercy are together. They talk about his experimentations.
Not really something to brag about. If anything, it's pitying.
“I’ve always thrived under a deadline.”
I love this reponce because not only does she disregard other people’s lives but her own as well and it’s so badass.
im a Moira Stan i love her SO much
The first time she wasn’t able to give a response was when lifeweiver actually showing sympathy for her. That’s actually really sad 😢
“when we’re younger, we’re taught the distinction between a hero and a villian. good and evil. saviour and a lost cause. but what if the only real difference is just who’s telling the story?” reminds me of moira and all the other supports🙁 i love her so much
"Yet another stretch of cloudless skies and idyllic ocean views. Wonderful."
winston and lifeweaver being the only two of these who dont treat her like a monster makes me so sad
Pls tell me more
Mercy has developed technology to decrease aging, but only used it in herself.

Shows Winston's periodic table joke
Whats more depressing is that theres a voice line where sigma does not like to be with talon but sombra tries to make him feel better and in this voiceline there is a continuation to that which shows how sombra really is not that bad of a person just in the wrong path
Can't go wrong with Winston's periodic table
I don't say that moira had any right to turn Reaper and Widowmaker to that what they are now, but I understand her point. She wants to create progresse as fast as possible
Reaper wanted it though, at least not in this form

It wouldve been cool if in the mirrorwatch event they wouldve made genji a talon agent. They couldve given him unique abilities that he got through moiras experiments on him after he almost got killed by hanzo.
There is one thing I can agree with Moira on. Sometimes in order to succeed I progress, we must always push the boundaries that hold us back. However she forgets that the more you take, the less you have...
Moira is one of my fave characters lore wise
"I've always thrived under a deadline" is such a way of saying "I got this but if I die I die"
Sombra is right here. Moira likes to use the argument, that she does it for mankind. However in reality she only does it for her own curiosity
That interaction between Sombra and Moira. Moira knows how to push Sombra's buttons. She's a mastermind in manipulation and precision.
That line between life weaver and her I felt that.. the worst pain can be that of which we self inflicted..
The junk one should be here when she says pain is very much related to science
As unethical as Moira is, she is a genius
For anyone wondering Moira is essentially a portrayal of Jeckyl and Hyde; someone who meant well but became corrupted by their own works. She is evil but more so in a way that she’s less empathetic. She doesn’t care, all she wants is to complete her experiments. Moira has the potential to be a good person but she’s let herself be consumed by her work for far too long. That’s why Angela brings up their “ethical obligations” because at the end of the day, Moira is still a doctor. One who prefers to prioritize her own madness over the safety of her patients or rather test subjects.

you missed her most depressing interaction. when she asks to work with mei and mei declines and moira says something like "i've heard you prefer to work alone" hinting at all of mei's colleagues who died. it was so cold even for moira.
Exactly, and Mei, honestly wasn't even rude about it, she literally just politely declined her offer ToT
Moira: I've read your report on cryogenically preserving severed appendages. I'd be happy to assist in your research.
Mei: No thank you. I don't think our methodologies are very aligned.
Moira:
Of course. I've heard you prefer working alone.
"What a joy it must be to feel entitled to patience"
Only really "depressing" line out of all of this is Lifeweaver's one.
She seems in control in all other interactions and has some wit to parry jabs at herself, but not here. She slips a bit, it almost looks defensive.
Doesn't help at all, that Niran is basically only one who is expressing concern towards her and not distaste, disgust or simple formal etiquette.
Genevieve's delivery is so absurdly good.
Moira isnt really evil in a way, just if science didnt have laws, we could rapidly save more lives than lose, this is coming from someone studying medicine
The interaction when she asks Sigma about the fairy conversations always makes me sad. Poor guy.
Moira + Lifeweaver interaction is simple but adds so much character to Moira. She actually has to take a second to compose herself to respond
The way she pronounces her words is just so immaculate
That Winston line cracked me up.
“Naaah” -Moira 😢
NA, salt. She actually joked with him.
I throughly enjoy Moira as a character. They don't say as much, but I suspect she has some kind of genetic disorder or a terminal disease and that's what's driving her to make strides in medicine... regardless of what happens so long as she can make that progress to get to the results *she* needs to survive
She's actually killing herself by using the same kind of attack she uses in game of her body.
Moira is not only my favorite character because she’s fun to play, but her story is so damn good.
I like that genji said other creations hinting to the new tank maybe as hes a mutant possibly
I love how Sombra is a big sister to Sigma in most of her interactions involving him or talking about him.
Mercy and Moira are two sides of tf2 Medic
i like how she actually humored winstons periodic table joke
I may not favor what she's done in the lore- but i do like her a substantially more after that little interaction
It was kinda funny to see Moria actually engage with Winston’s joke
Moira is probably the most interesting character in Overwatch. Morally complex, very intelligent, and singularly focused on furthering scientific progress through any means necessary, including sacrificing others, and herself.
"saddest..."
Sure, man
I want more Moira and Winston interactions!
Talon are such nuanced villains. In fact, pretty much everyone has a lot of nuance outside of Winston's crew and Reaper.
Her voicesline are why I love her 😂😂😂 "Your ignorance frightens me"
I would love to see how genji would look like if moira save him
The sad, miserable, depressing uhh... joke winston told
i feel like Lifeweaver is the only one that show her some sort of kindness
wtf none of these interactions are depressing, just over the edge XD
none off Moira's interactions is depressing, all her comebacks are from people giving her opinions and she shuts them down with number facts and receipts :L
