Rein may be loud, proud, has a history of big mistakes, and is getting up there in years, BUT Rein was one of the best Lieutenants in all of Overwatch who was chosen to lead the mission of King's Row at the time for a reason: He is FAR from stupid. He just doesn't show his intelligence openly all the time. After his big mistake that got Balderich killed, he became much more serious in not only being a defender and as well as a brawler, he stepped up into being a leader, which (Normally) they don't allow idiots to be. It also helps that when it comes to missions, Reinhardt is quite the tactician, coming up with strategies that lead his team through to success in Kings Row and his latest missions in OW2's latest story missions.

This interactions could suggest so, as Baptiste was the only person capable of cooling Mauga of from his psychotic frenzies when they we're in Talon together.
