Hey guys! Thank you all for watching. I just posted a 15K mile follow up review where I address some of the concerns in this video. Watch here- th-cam.com/video/0EroxFVCinU/w-d-xo.html
Eight years and 64K miles for my 2016 Golf R manual. It's had an APR Stage 2 tune since 2017 (tune, downpipe, intercooler, turbo inlet, CAI, stage 3 clutch) and everything's working fine. Just put a new set of Bridgestone Potenzas on it. I don't track it or autocross - just enjoy daily driving a very powerful car.

Whistling Sound- Try some tape over seam lines on the mirrors . I did this on my GLI and it was the seam on top. I then used some clear sealant on that area and whistling problem fixed. Clunking during DSG shifts- Try this... When car is warm and up to temperatures. Shut car off... Press start button once with foot off brake to power up accessories without motor running, push gas peddle to floor (All the way) Hold there for 30 seconds ... start car. drive away using paddle shifters. Drive and shift for awhile in a manner you wish the car to recognize . ie If you want your best shift from 2nd to 3rd to be at 4,000 RPM , then do that . Car will learn your habits. Again , this works in my GLI. But I find after driving awhile in Auto mode I have to do it again if I want perfect shifts in manual shift mode
The whistle sound is common, louder when you driving between walls as the sound reflects. The door rubbers just needs to be wiped clean with soap, wipe every week to keep it from squeaks
I've noticed the clunking on the gearbox on my MK8 GTI dsg as well. However, mine happens when going from 1st > 2nd with light throttle. Strange but like you said it's probably just the nature of a DSG given they're such complex gearboxes
I get the clunk on mine during 2nd > 3rd shift in manual mode with a heavy foot. I don’t know if it’s a rough shift between clutches or what, but it feels like the trans is going to drop out of the car
@@rjbaldwin_ mine is definitely extremely faint and can only be heard with music turned off. I figured it was the transmission switching between different clutch packs.
DSG is the most clunky, rough shifting, shit transmission I’ve ever had in my life. I decided to buy my first automatic DSG golf r and ended up getting rid of it and getting back into a manual. DSG has held me off from the RS3 that’s how much I hate the transmission. Wish they put the 8speed auto in the Audi S5 instead of that useless 7speed DSG. Now THAT was a beautiful smooth shifting non clunky automatic that also sounded fantastic in between gear shifts.
From several years of MK6R and Mk7R ownership, I recall VW updating the OEM dsg firmware to address ‘clunks’ and weird glitches. They’ll probably do the same here. Some European tuners even update to the latest oem firmware as part of their tuning process. Maybe vw already has issued an update and the dealer will install that for you. Worst case, when the tcu tune becomes available for your car, it should get rid of these issues. Definitely keep the car for the long term, i still regret parting with my 11.7s stage 2 Mk7R 😢
I have a 2018 mk7.5 Special Edition with 74000klm/45000ml on it. I've had zero issues with the Golf R in 5 years of ownership, i;ve not experienced the clunking DSG problems discussed here other than i don't use manual mode for daily driving ,cold morning starts/drive i never go about 2000rpm in auto until engine /gearbox oil is up to temperature and DSG gear changes are smooth. In the 5 years i've replaced stop/start switch , front brake rotors/pads and tyres all round.the car is serviced at VW dealership every year. There is nothing on the market that appeals to me at this stage for an upgrade.

The 2nd to 3rd gear clunking issue was also common among the mk7.5 gen DSG. I remember I had the exact same issue in manual mode the car shifted very hard from 2nd to 3rd when engine was under moderate to high load. A lot of people I knew who had the same car also had this problem. Only one guy I knew told me he kept complaining about the issue and VW replaced his DSG and the issue was gone after the replacement. I think it’s just how this wet clutch DSG works, not necessarily an issue. 🤷♂️
I have a 24 Golf R with 6k. Has been great except my gps was stuck in Nashville but I live 300 miles away? Had to have a new gps sensor installed under warranty. Then a new screen replaced after tech cracked mine 😮. Love the car. ❤
I love that heads up display. Hate the auto start/stop garbage, it's dangerous. If I ever get rear ended at a stoplight I will sue VW because I could not accelerate out of the way! Why does this car not come with remote start from the factory?
My wireless android auto disconnects usually near airports and hospitals, and a certain spot on the 10fwy just after passing the 110 going east bound. The trick that works for me is keeping the phone connected with a wire so that it'll switch to it once it disconnects off wireless, if I don't do that then android auto will completely fail to connect wirelessly until I shut the car off or Android auto sorts itself out again. Had that happen to me on a 2022 Tiguan as well.
To solve your "whistling" issue with the front windows down - try cracking the rears about 3-4". That should solve it. At least that works on my '19 Mk7.5 R. I also have an F87 M2 Comp so we have a matched pair, both a generation apart.
Could the squeak be related to an issue created by the high torque tune? I’m not sure you’re covered by warranty if they find out you’re tuned. Love your vids.
@@JVette01thank goodness. Good luck man. Been watching you since you were considering the Si, EN, and GTI. What a jump it’s been to an M2 and R now lol.
I had the same door seal squeak on my Jetta. Wurth is a German company that makes a rubber care product. I highly recommend it. Use your finger to apply to the seals. Obviously start with the drivers door.
Funny thing is my R does the exact same thing going from 2 to 3 gear during half throttle around 3-4k rpms. It’s like a jolt or instant shift that you really feel
I literally having the same issue with my 3rd gear on my 8 month old GTI when using the paddle shifters. Sounds like it's not a big deal which makes me feel a little better. I only have 4500 miles. One thing I am having issues is sometimes the sunroof opens and sometimes it doesn't which is a major PITA.
Get the racing line r600 with the elbow, a little pricy but the sound of the intake is amazing and you should get a small bump in performance. Love my r600 on the 22mk8r
Hey love the videos I don't kno if you have covered it in another video or not but just curious if you don't mind me asking what do u have your custom drive mode settings at? I've been playing around with mine and just wondering what your prefering?
Appreciate your replying to questions and appreciate your insight. Earned a sub here. :) One more question - drive modes versus DCC. Do you have a strong opinion in the value of the DCC in your Golf R versus the 4 drive modes in the S trim GTI?
Rock chips can easily be avoided by not following other cars/trucks even remotely closely. I have a 23 GTI with 13k (mixed hwy/city) and only 1 single rock chip.
@@alexsharypov9844Totally agree with you. Many people nowadays only care about launch control or quick acceleration. I’m like you, I find it fun and engaging to be driving a manual transmission on a good performance car.
The reason you may be having issues with wireless around an airport is that the Dopler Radar can run on the same 5Ghz frequency as the wireless and cause interference.
Hello JVette! Great long term video on the Golf R. I own the exact same spec Golf as you and have an order in for an M2 that’s due this fall. It will be my daily so I was curious on your input if you think the M2 is as good a daily as the R. Also do you feel the M2 is a noticeable performance jump over a stock R? I love them both but sadly do not have the space for 2 cars. Thank you for any input, cheers!!
My apple carplay disconnects near our omnitrans bus station hub and near our Santa Fe train hub same spots every single time. It fully disconnects near the bus station and cuts out near the train hub but comes back on. Super annoying but minor inconvenience.
@@JVette01 If you're running wireless Car Play, my guess would be radio interference (2.4 or 5 GHz?) at that location. We've been trying to track down a similar issue with one of our remote vehicles. You can try verifying it by running with USB at the same spot, and see if it disconnects. That would have nothing to do with the car, in my opinion.
Wow, you got 10K miles on your car already? I only got 2.2K. I guess working from home has cut back on my daily driving. I love driving my cars. I find myself finding things to do so I can have an excuse to go for a ride (with the S3 as well as R). RS3 is an awesome car, and as I mentioned before, if it came out a year earlier, I would have gotten that over our S3. I have always wanted a 5 cylinder Audi. If they are still making them, I will replace the S3 with an RS3 in another year or so. I usually keep cars for 3 to 4 years regardless of the miles on it.
The front collision and pther warning lights are a common issue on many mk8 GTI's and R's and the solution is a new steering wheel - crazy, I know. My friend had that happen on his mk8 GTI all the time and it's very annoying and not safe for the sensors not to work. Go complain to your dealership and record it/take pictures - they'll just have to replace your steering wheel and done. After they replaces it for my friend - no more warning lights.
I have the same issue with 2 to 3, slams the rear end. Just had it service and complained about issue. They contacted VW and a replacement valve(?) for the rear end is on its way. Hope it works out.
Thinking about trading in my 2023 challenger scatpack and getting a golf r or gti. Scatpack is fun but I want a all year daily driver. Scatpack isn't touching snow here in Ohio. Any thoughts?
I was unable to hear the creek you were referring to when turning and going through dips, etc. I also did not notice any sort of squeaky belt or anything coming from the engine at idle. Sounded perfecting fine to me. Also, most any newer cars interior will resonate or make whistle noises when you roll down both windows while driving at speed. You also didn't exhibit the 3rd gear clunk. It would seem odd that the DSG's exhibit some of the things you mentioned since I thought it was supposed to be a good and reliable transmission capable of handling a lot of power. I haven't heard of this either but I drive manuals. The paint on the front looked a little rough for only 10k though. Especially if you don't drive with a lot of debris coming up in front of you and you're careful. I would think with the thumb down on your still it would assume you weren't interested in keep it and wouldn't call it the perfect daily driver?
1. You can hear the creak if you listen carefully. The squeaky idle is very audible. 2. False, my old Mustang and M2 do not do that when you roll both windows down. 3. Yes, I revved too high in the gear which is why it didnt exibit the clunk. It does it all the time under moderate throttle around 3k rpm shifts. It most likely wont affect the reliability of the trans, it's just a characteristic that both of my DSG's had. 4. There are only a few actual rock chips, a lot of it was dirt. The car was very dirty as it rained a few days prior. 5. The thumbnail begs the question if the issues would be considered a thumbs down. It's for the audience to decide. However, for me, I don't think the minor issues takes away from how much I enjoy this car. Thanks for the comment.
Yea I think you have to get those "smoker" window inserts to have the windows down driving these cars. My MK7 is the same way. Also my mk7.5 with 27k miles has weird DSG quirks too. Mainly downshifting from 4th-1st. I will feel the car shift and hear a slight click. It's pretty subtle but I kinda wish it was smoother. Also when I decelerate, like coming to a red light, hitting the gas again when the light turns green sometimes it shifts hard. I took it to VW and they said it was fine. I was told sometimes the DSG is about to downshift and when you hit the gas and when it does that it tries to correct it in the moment which can result in a harsh shift. I'm not sure if you've experienced that yet. Curious!
Thanks for this. I'm glad your main criticisms revolve around things my on-order mk8 either won't have or won't concern me: DSG and exhaust sounds, Apple CarPlay. I am interested in your impressions on the infotainment, however. Looking forward to your 20K review!
Great review, and it really shines a light on just how good the interior build quality is in the M2 in comparison! My M240i doesn't have rattles, squeaks in the interior or noise coming from the engine bay after 40,000 miles! Seats are still like new as well, but the steering wheel has a little wear spot possibly from complete neglect lol
The rattle sound is from the door seals which is a pretty easy fix. They actually recalled some 2022 models to fix this. My M2 actually has more creases and wrinkles in the seat than the golf r lol
Golf R would be a better daily and quicker from 0. However, the black wing is more of a sports car and quicker stock vs stock. I'd pick the Golf R though, surprisngly roomy compared to CT4 and cost less.
That squeaking sound in your cars engine bay when your idled, did you figure out what it was? I have the same thing happening to my car and I think it may be the serpentine belt
Hello, I have a gti mk8 with 8,000 miles. and it has the exact same the squeaking noise that it makes at minute 6:16 on your video. If you have more information let me know what they tell you at the dealership. And thanks for the video.
Am considering a Golf R. Have had several VWs in the past and more than anything love the handling/ride characteristics. I did a test drive of a '24 Golf R with a manual which is what I thought I would want. However, I wasn't really blown away by the transmission. Felt more like a joy stick. The last time I owned a manual it was probably late 90s and it felt more "connected". Maybe I would get used to it but I don't know. What led you to DSG vs manual? I do worry a bit about longevity with DSG.
I’m the original owner of a 2017 MK7 GTI 6spd manual owner. It currently has 170k miles on the car. I would 100% go DSG. The 6spd manual can be made to feel very good, with some mods, but the way VW clutch designed the clutch operating system, is junk. I’m especially referring to the integrated TOB/slave. Its operation sits inside the transmission bell housing, and they fail/leak often. Once it leaks, it contaminates the clutch plates and disks, and will destroy your clutch quickly. Also, the OEM clutch is hella weak, which is sacrilege from VW, as they 100% know that people mod these cars. So for them to make the OEM clutch so weak, that it cannot hold a simple Stage 1 tune, is dumb, while so many other manufacturers make their OEM clutches so much stronger. So once you tune the car, you have to now go out and buy aftermarket clutch kits, which so many of them, including Southbend, have very little R&D put into them, which makes them fail often and not last very long. And these aftermarket kits aren’t cheap, and shops charge a lot to install them. DSG will be a lot more reliable while being faster. Get the DSG. FYI, I’ve been through 4 aftermarket clutch kits in my GTI. Probably a good $7k in total. I had a shop install one of them. The other three I did myself
I got a 24r in manual . Everyone has different tastes , but even compared to my 2015 gti , it lacks some feel . The dsg makes it worse , and to me it’s always in the wrong gear , but that depends on how u drive . The gearing to me especially on the hwy I think is a bit short . The gti is very tall in comparison .
Crazy how the apple car play disconnects on that small section and nowhere else. Wonder why thats the case, super bizzare. That drive system error that happened to you once maybe be the part of not having a dsg tune, maybe it isnt but thats what i think.
great review as always! Same DSG problems on my mk8 gti as well. Whenever upshift from 2nd to 3rd in manual mode, with light to medium throttle around 3k rpm, it will clunk! not all the time, but It's getting very predictable now after having the car for 1 year. sometimes I just put a bit more throttle, bring the rpm up to 5k and it will help a lil bit but I can still feel the clunk. People saying it happens when the trans is cold is not exactly true. when the car is warm up, it still happens. I think it might be the computer is tripping. Like the computer might think you need short shift from 2nd to 3rd and it wasn't ready for you to bring the rpm high, then to shift, that's when the clunk will happen. Not sure if I'm making sense, but that's my thoughts. 1 more thing I want to add is the infotainment system trips wayyy too hard in cold weather! I'm from Toronto, and it gets cold afff in winter. Whenever I do a cold start in the morning or leaving work at night, the infotainment will either black out, or triggers parking sensor saying functions is not available. I have to manually restart the infotainment sometimes 1 time or couple times for it to function normal again. it gets really annoying that I have to do it everyday cuz winter is long here. Overall I still love my GTI, it's a fantastic car, lots of things can be done to it, fun and a lil bit luxuries too. you get a lot of car for the price!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! Never had any issues even with 30 degree weather with infotainment though. The dsg clunk thing is normal haha, cold or warm
The clunk is annoying in manual mode. It takes the fun out of getting on it hard in second gear for me. I pretty much have to take it above 5K or to 5.5K and beyond to avoid it. Otherwise I just keep a lighter foot when shifting below 5K. In auto D/S it shifts smooth no issues. Dealer told me it’s normal DSG behavior I guess.
@rjbaldwin2482 I never checked with my dealer about it. If they say it's normal, I guess it is. My only concern is that will this problem effect the transmission in the long run? I guess we'll find out when time goes by lol
Ive had that squeaky noise on my MK7.5 for tbe entirely I owned it before my MK8R. I think it was part of the AC compressor as it would go away as soon as i shut yhe AC off. Never gave me issues just was a noticable noise from the wheel well area.
I go to the VW dealership. I just tell them I want to use one of my 3 oil changes. You get a 10k, 20k, and 30k oil change service included. I just use it early.
If you use VW approved oil I think you can go 10000 miles between changes. The EU, in the interest of being green (of course), wanted to reduce the use of oil by cars and requires 10000 mile oil changes. So the European car manufacturers developed oils that meet 10k durability. Perhaps doing an early first oil change would be prudent. I have a Touareg diesel with 120000 miles and a Golf with 100000 miles which have had 10k oil changes and no problems.
So a little information on the TFSI engines that are shared with some Audis, you need to really drive them, if not Carbon Deposits can build inside the Intake Valves, so drive the car dont Baby it
VW leather seats are really good...I have a 2017 GTI and I am a BIG BOI. Minimal beatup on the side bolsters where other brands that left bolster will get mashed and creased up
Just got the car & I hate you. Lol. Not really, but after seeing this video I can't stop hearing that creaking noise when I change levels, parking garage, entrances into malls. etc. Did you ever get any feedback from the dealer? I threw VRP on the seals on the doors & I honestly think it made it worst. Good review, thank you.
Awesome, thank you for the reply. Are they replacing the seals & did they acknowledge the issue or were they kinda questing the validity of the issue. Again, thanks for the reviews & feedback@@JVette01
i literally have the same car with a 034 tune as well. I put an intake on mine and it sounds a lot better. adds decent amount of sound. installing my dp,intercooler, and dogbone mount next week so hopefully it sounds even better
@@JVette01I started with a mbrp catback exhaust and was a bit louder. Once I added a largwr downpipe it was much louder so I'd recommend stock catback with aftermarket downpipe.
@@rtep27 you are right! My friend has 7.5 R and it was catless dp with a tiny resonator on the catback and dammn it's loud affff! I think the problem is that aftermarket dp with aftermarket catback are all 3" piping. that's why this set up is wayyy too loud! He reverted to stock muffler + res delete and it now sounds better!
9:30, That transmission "hunting" when cold is a DSG thing, I have it on mine too. I guess when the gearbox is cold the oil probably doesn't flow as well and effectiveness of the clutches is a tad compromised. As soon as it warms up all is well again.
@@JVette01 lol. You should at least go get Turtle Wax Mintute Wax & Turtle Wax Slick Shine Quick Detailer. Super easy to use. Super light protection that’s easy to remove if you ever want to use a longer lasting protection. Great for your environment that has lots of dust - because it’s so light, so you can use as often as you like. Builds up good enough protection & is super slick & shiny on white cars. I kind of use them interchangeably, but use the Slick Shine more often. I live in a dusty environment too. But you NEED at least some protection. Go get them.
@@JVette01 I’m actually living the Turtle Wax Slick & Shine as a quick detailer/waterless wash. And I’ve been experimenting with different stuff. Just to let you know. Easy, slick & looks good on white paint. You can use it on top of your ceramic spray.
My 2023 VW Golf R AE is about to turn 5,000 miles. Love mine too. Only quarks I don’t like are: 1. The hood is slightly off so I need to have the dealership see if it can be adjusted. Worried about them touching my car though. 2. Car won’t launch right if the dsg trans isn’t brought up to proper temp. I’m in Michigan and until the dsg hits 130 degrees it just won’t launch right. No biggie but I was scared the first time it happened 😂
Given how the wet clutches in the DSG work, it’s not surprising it needs to warm up for optimal performance. Plus Michigan is cold much of the year. In Vegas the car is warmed up even at a cold start. I think people under value the benefit of a warm engine before a hard launch. I’d never buy a used R because I’d guarantee there are too many people who put that engine under stress before it’s warm and ready.
Exactly! If you plan on keeping the car for several years then PPF is worth it. Otherwise, it usually isn’t. It does not increase or decrease the resale value of the car either.

No. I think it started doing it before I was even tuned.

Hey love the videos I don't kno if you have covered it in another video or not but just curious if you don't mind me asking what do u have your custom drive mode settings at? I've been playing around with mine and just wondering what your prefering?
DCC softest setting. Steering sport, drivetrain sport, engine sound pure. The ACC and light assist don’t do anything
Try some silicon spray on the door seal. It wont break down the rubber like WD40 and may prolong the life of the seals.
How much HP did you gain from the stage 1 tune? Been thinking about trying it on my GTI
Idk how it would do on a GTI but for my R, it feels like 20-30hp. No dsg tune yet so it's bottlenecked at the moment.
Appreciate your replying to questions and appreciate your insight. Earned a sub here. :) One more question - drive modes versus DCC. Do you have a strong opinion in the value of the DCC in your Golf R versus the 4 drive modes in the S trim GTI?
Yes. The suspension in the golf r is amazing. One of my favorite things about it
Rock chips can easily be avoided by not following other cars/trucks even remotely closely. I have a 23 GTI with 13k (mixed hwy/city) and only 1 single rock chip.

Huge difference in performance. Funny you mention this because I just filmed a video comparing both today. It will be a 3-4 part video series!
That’s awesome, can’t wait to see what you say! Thanks for the reply 👍
That G87 is gorgeous
Got mines a week ago. Love it
My mk7.5 sometimes clunks in manual mode at a lower rpm's as well, so probably just inherent to the 7 speed.
My apple carplay disconnects near our omnitrans bus station hub and near our Santa Fe train hub same spots every single time. It fully disconnects near the bus station and cuts out near the train hub but comes back on. Super annoying but minor inconvenience.
Not sure what triggers it but it only happens in that spot I mentioned.
Hi, How much you spend for this golf r after add all the tax and dealer fees?
I had a trade in so that was accounted for but without the trade would probably be about 53k because Vegas tax is pretty high
Im in Vegas too looking for an R. Where did you buy yours?
Centennial VW
I never really had warning lights pop up. Mainly just the parking sensors sometimes randomly go off at low speed
I have the same issue with 2 to 3, slams the rear end. Just had it service and complained about issue. They contacted VW and a replacement valve(?) for the rear end is on its way. Hope it works out.
Let me know if that changes anything!
Thinking about trading in my 2023 challenger scatpack and getting a golf r or gti. Scatpack is fun but I want a all year daily driver. Scatpack isn't touching snow here in Ohio. Any thoughts?
Won’t sound as good but speed will be similar and you’ll have much better mpg, tech, and AWD
Why not vinyl wrap the gloss black?
Didn’t think about that
I was unable to hear the creek you were referring to when turning and going through dips, etc.
Thanks for your honest reply but I think maybe you should of went with a sideways thumb. 😜Enjoy that R.@@JVette01
how do you like/dislike the touch buttons for the Entertainment and/or AC/heat?
They’re not ideal but not a deal breaker and fairly easy to get used to
Yea I think you have to get those "smoker" window inserts to have the windows down driving these cars. Curious!
Haven’t experienced that. Just the 2-3 shift and sometimes 3-4
Thanks for this. I'm glad your main criticisms revolve around things my on-order mk8 either won't have or won't concern me: DSG and exhaust sounds, Apple CarPlay. I am interested in your impressions on the infotainment, however. Looking forward to your 20K review!
Thanks for watching! The infotainment is easy to use once you get used to it.
@@JVette01 Fabulous! It seemed okay for the few minutes at the dealership when I tinkered. 👍

Debating between getting a Golf R or a used CT4-V Blackwing. The Golf R seems like a great value.
Golf R would be a better daily and quicker from 0. However, the black wing is more of a sports car and quicker stock vs stock. I'd pick the Golf R though, surprisngly roomy compared to CT4 and cost less.

DSG all the way. So much faster, better launches, and hold up better with tunes than stock manual clutches
Maybe since there’s an airport there it cancels out signals or something idk 😂
@JVette01 who knows
your navi is going crazy while you are driving. how do we fix that?
That was WAZE. It only does that rarely. I just need to open the app on my phone and it will go back to normal.
great review as always!
The dsg clunk thing is normal haha, cold or warm
glad you haven't experience any infotainment issues. 1 more reason to love Vegas I guess🤣 @@JVette01
It is normal. Weird “quirk” but they all do it
@rjbaldwin2482 I never checked with my dealer about it. If they say it's normal, I guess it is. My only concern is that will this problem effect the transmission in the long run? I guess we'll find out when time goes by lol
Try some shine supply clutch on the door seals.
Awesome review of your car! Viva Las Vegas!
I know this might cause some people freeking out, but maybe not tune it?

how does it compare to the m2?
This will be answered in my upcoming videos. I plan on doing a 3-4 part video series comparing both since I get the question often. Stay tuned.
Why would you drive it in manual mode if your not pushing it?
Because I feel like it
Ive had that squeaky noise on my MK7.5 for tbe entirely I owned it before my MK8R. I think it was part of the AC compressor as it would go away as soon as i shut yhe AC off. Never gave me issues just was a noticable noise from the wheel well area.
For me, it’s not the a/c. Haven’t used my A/C in months
It could be a belt. Try belt dressing.
ppf is almost a must for any new car
Eh I don’t like it. Unpopular opinion, but I prefer not to have it
You’re not alone !
How often do you do oil changes?
Every 5-7k miles
@@JVette01
My VW dealership keeps talking me out of early oil changes 🤨
Do you use VW or someone else?

2. Car won’t launch right if the dsg trans isn’t brought up to proper temp. I’m in Michigan and until the dsg hits 130 degrees it just won’t launch right. No biggie but I was scared the first time it happened 😂
Interesting. I never had any issues with launching until I tuned it
Given how the wet clutches in the DSG work, it’s not surprising it needs to warm up for optimal performance. Plus Michigan is cold much of the year. In Vegas the car is warmed up even at a cold start. I think people under value the benefit of a warm engine before a hard launch. I’d never buy a used R because I’d guarantee there are too many people who put that engine under stress before it’s warm and ready.
