Easy Blackwater Aquascape for Tetras

  • Some tanks are inspired simply by a piece of hardscape, such as driftwood. That's exactly what happened with this tank. I found two pieces of wood I knew would be perfect for a blackwater aquascape and everything else followed. Enjoy!

In a small tank like that, it would be able to grab the fish when the crayfish is an adult. Plus, it would destroy the plants too.

I would personally go with some small dwarf cichlid. To keep with his South American stocking I would say perhaps some variant of maybe the German blue ram. Gold, red fronted gold, or even electric blue would go well, perhaps even some smaller less agressive appistos like trifaciata

With these tanks you can mostly just do some small water changes every week or so. You don't need to remove old leaves or gravel vac. I'm theory it should mostly take care of itself.

I had a pair of angelfish in a similar set up. Lots of floating plants too but lots of tannins and lots of plant food by Tetra which I am convinced the vitamins in it made my angels thrive. I had never before been able to keep angels alive long. I had to sell my tanks when I moved. I so regret it. I am in a small place now and aquariumless for 20 years! 😭 One day I am going to have the money and find a spot for a new tank somehow. Im almost ready to ditch my king size bed and go for a queen to add room. I love my tanks in the bedroom and living room. So nice to relax to until time for aquarium lights out . I have fallen sooooo far behind on the new items and discoveries for fish! I have a lot to learn. I had a tank or several from the 70s until 2001. I miss fish so much. I could use one now for my high blood pressure. I have found there doesn't seem to be any half hexes out there. That was my angel fish tank. Rats. Im not sure what brands or types to trust now. And I truly hate the new lighting. I miss the warm toned long bulbs. Guess I need to read a stack of books like I did when I was 9.
